The Temptations were the greatest male singers in history. The choreography, moves, style, class, voices - TALENT! Rick put this together (got his flavor) but they executed it to perfection!
Damn that’s kinda subjective when you got the four tops, the stylistic, the chi lites, the whispers and etc.. and keep in mind I’m 28 years old (gonna turn 29 January 5th) but grew up nothing with Motown and music from my parents generation.
@@dianefiske-foy4717 Apparently Melvin Franklin (whose real name was David Williams) was the result of a Rape. This was a major comeback for them. They along with the Beach Boys & Beatles career took off in 1962.
This performance was part of the Temptations Reunion. They are amazing. So sad that things did not workout, due to addiction, loss of members, and collision of strong personalities. Who knows how far these guys would have gone in the music business.Fantastic performance.RIP,Rick,Eddie,Melvin,Dennis,Paul,David, and the rest .Otis is the only one left.
Loved the Temptations since I was young (70 now). And Rick James is from Buffalo, NY, which is near my hometown. Started listening to his music when he came out. Still watch his videos.
It was nice to hear this collaboration. Rick James at the height of his stardom and re-introduced the temptations to another generation. Motown, they did not call it hitsville for nothing. What talent awesome song.
The "TEMPS".... No other group quite like them. I always liked the highs from Eddie Kendricks and the Lows from Melvin Franklin and rough tones from David Ruffin the smooth tones from Dennis Edwards. They made a great blends of sonic greatness. Rick James fits right in nicely. Cool tune.
The Temps had 4 manifestations each one consisting of 5 members. Both of the first two groups appear in this video. So that’s why there are so many members. Dennis Edwards starts the song (who was actually the 2nd lead singer) then David Ruffin the 1st lead singer sings the second verse. The high voice is Eddie Kendricks who was also an original Temptation. In 1985, David Ruffin and Eddie Kendricks got together with Hall and Oats and toured together making a live video at the Apollo concert theater. th-cam.com/video/N0268Le2mBA/w-d-xo.htmlsi=aqwx0gZZOtfzO1mI
Also it was the Second time that a Solo Artist did a Song with a Group. Dionne Warwick & The Spinners (Never Knew Love Before), Olivia Newton-John (RIP), with ELO, & The Tubes (Xanadu & Dancin`) David Bowie & Queen (Under Pressure).
The High Voice aka Falsetto is Eddie Kendricks. In 1959 along with another Former Temptation Paul Williams were born in Birmingham, Alabama, and came to detroit in 1959 with their Friend Kell Osborne as a Group called The Primes. If you can, listen to all of the songs that they did in the 1960`s.
There's normally just 5 Temps. But this song had all the surviving members that were ever in the group. David Ruffin and Eddie Kendrick were no longer a part of them. But came back for this song. Eddie was the one with the falsetto voice.
"My Girl'... "Just My Imagination"... "Beauty Is Only Skin Deep"... "You're My Everything"... "I'm Gonna Make You Love Me"... "Cloud Nine"... "I Wish It Would Rain"...
The one with the deep voice was robbed abd shot on his legs He wanted to perform anyway This is why the foor work was shown He was dancing with his hurt legs He did not want to be left out
It is a matter of dignity class character and maturity. I want to make the point and say Thank You JM, for not having any annoying bad habits in your comments and never any foul language. . Watching another reactor and was aware of his habitual speaking trends that he spoke for 2 minutes and 41 seconds, during that time he used the phrase… “Do you know what I’m saying” (not quite like that) 19 times and used the word “BRO” 23 times and said Shit 6 times and said of a female singer…She’s a fine Bitch.. Not all "Reactors" are the same level of Quality Content.
Sadly with the exception of Otis Williams (1941-Present) they are all dead. Rick had drug problems as did David Ruffin and they both did time in Prison. The others died of various forms of cancer and Melvin Franklin died of a Brain Hemmorage caused by a Stroke.
