When I hear a song like this it takes me right back to 1972. Thats why I'm glad I listened to AM radio back then. They played these songs over and over again until you got sick of them! Or, until you could (thankfully) never forget them. 🙂
Great song. You gotta a few more to tend to such as, Summer, The World IS a Ghetto, Baby Brother, Why Can't we Be Friends, All Day Music and Gypsy Man....just to name a few LOL. Thanks Guys!
Have seen War many times and will see them again on 1/19 in Ocean City MD. As long as Lonnie Jordan is still doing his thing we know it will be a great concert.
Lonnie Jordan sold out the original founding members by agreeing to join a lawsuit against them by a big time music producer who came along and stole the copyright from the band. Producer bribed Lonnie and he turned his back on the other members with a promise of partnership in owning the band name. Without Lonnie's involvement the producer's chance of keeping the copyright was low. He needed at least one original member to keep it away from the rest of the band. It's quite a heartbreaking story. The original members could no longer use the name so the go by The Lowrider Band now. They are the real War, they wrote the songs, etc. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lowrider_Band
@thisisitreactions I remember my youngest daughter back in the late 80's having me listen to Low Rider, she called it a "new" song, all I could do was laugh and tell her it came out when I was 12. She doesn't listen to newer music, she loves the music from the 50's through the 80's. She loves Queen and Beatles.
I love this song so much. When I was a kid, I was a tomboy and I had a pony. I went back and forth, pretending to be The Cisco Kid one day, and The Rifleman the next. ❤
Great song, great band!! Very under rated group!! Another awesome 70s band . There were so many in that decade the radio dial offered the public a mountain of great music. Once MTV took hold that was the end and music videos became a soft core porn channel . Looks and image became paramount where musical ability and lyrics started to wane. Now you have the trash on the radio that can’t touch the 60s and 70s musicians. It’s been a steady decline for 40 years. Yes there were still some great artists over the years but nowhere near the quantity and quality we had available to us in the 60s and 70s..
@ thanks guys! You guys have a great channel and I get tremendous enjoyment out of your reactions.. I hope to see you guys do some old school rolling stones!! There is so much great material to draw from!! Also would love to hear some Teddy Pendergrass and the stylistics.. all those great harmony groups from the 70s!! I’m a rocker but nothing beats those outstanding harmony groups , I grew up on a steady diet of the best music from the 70s !! Also some Stevie Wonder please!! You guys I could definitely chill with and spin some records anytime , you know your shit and definitely get it!! Keep it rolling I’m with you guys till the wheels fall off!!
The World is a Ghetto album cover brings back so many good memories… playing hoops in the park, guys drinking out of bottles in brown paper bags, girls checking out guys checking out girls… Good times in Berkeley/Oakland with War supplying the soundtrack
It was great that Ollie had pretty much guessed what the song was going to be about before he ever heard it...Yes, that is a really funky but entertaining song...glad you played it...
I don't know why I remember this, but I really wanted some Boones Farm apple one night, but didn't have any money in my pocket. I scraped some change together from the couch, my glove box, and below the car seats, then bummed another 12 cents from some friends hanging out at the gas station, and I was set. That stuff was swill, but it was budget swill.
I was a 13 year old boy the first time I heard this song. come over this old beat up AM radio and was mesmerized. I remember thinking "I can't wait to grow up and understood more." Music is medicine. Thanks for the dose.....
My buddy and I saw War in 2000 at the Nissan pavilion. They still had most of the original members and they were jamming. Love this song, I remember I was in high school when it came out. We are old but we had the best tunes!!!
I haven't listened to this song in a very long time. I still knew all the lyrics. My kids live in Louisiana, when we go to visit them, I see the boiled peanuts everywhere, but I've never seen anyone eat them. Boone's Farm apple or strawberry and the almost obligatory Mad Dog 20/20 are the only wines I have ever drank. That was a very long time ago, but I still remember the awful tastes to this day. And the after affects.
Well I now know the lyrics to this song. My guess work didn't do so well, lol. "Spill The Wine"(with Eric Burdon) is one of my faves too. Along with "Low Rider" and "Why Can't We Be Friends". Happy New Year guys.
If you haven't heard this song or much of War, that is one of the great sins of the world. Cisco, Low Rider, Why Can't We Be Friends, Slippin" into Darkness, so many classics. This is what I call the perfect song. Great lyrics, melody, and one funky ass back beat with those booming tom toms. Great stuff.
HEY OLLIE, I've always heard that in the South even the gas stations sell some of the best food; especially fried chicken! Never heard nothing about boiled peanuts tho.
Speaking of peanuts, have you all had pop n' peanuts? Get a Coke in a glass bottle, drink a little bit, then pour salted Planters peanuts in it. It's a meal and a drink.
Yo!! I think you're takin chances with Big Bites! Isn't that 7-11 food? Noooo!! There is also high end Port. I remember Mad Dog 2020!! I'm writing then you said it!! 😂😂😂 Boons farm
"Low Rider" is my #1 War jam, along with "Galaxy". But "Cisco Kid" is a close third. These three songs make you feel soul, while "The World Is A Ghetto" makes you think soul.
Personally, I think the radio stuff is trash (save for 'Slippin' into Darkness') compared with their longer jazz/latin/funk tracks on their albums. Owning all their stuff, when a single would come out, i was like "THAT'S the track you picked??"
For the younger generation, there used to be a show on TV with The Cisco Kid and Poncho from 1950 til 1956.
I used to watch every Sunday the Lone Ranger ,The Cisco Kid ,then Charlie Chan great shows☺️
Factz
They still show it on my cable TV..I love it
Educate them!👍
I can finally say that that is way before my time!! So, thank you! 😆❤️✌️

Thanks for rockin' with us and the suggestions!
Love "Summer" for a change of pace.
I'll second the "Why Can't We Be Friends?" vote.
Gotta watch spill the wine video with eric burdon on vocals. You will see War jamming out!
We watched it! It was quite the experience! Never saw EB in that light!

Love this song!
They did an up-tempo instrumental of 'World is a Ghetto' on the 'Music Band II' LP. A banger.
I've had Boones Farm wine when it only cost a buck; and not that long ago either.
It was a buck in the 70's. Inflation proof!😂
@@tat2jim like a Costco hot dog.
Mad Dog, Thunder Bird, Night Train & Wild Irish Rose all that rock gut cheap good stuff 😂
Boones Farm! Throwback!!
I don't know why I remember this, but I really wanted some Boones Farm apple one night, but didn't have any money in my pocket. How does a man with white in his beard possibly not know this song?!
You read my mind. Although all of my hair is now white, so perhaps that's the difference.
Actually, I liked "The World Is a Ghetto" even better than Cisco Kid. Good tune. Give it a listen.
