It took me 3 years to defeat this game ( and yes it seriously and literally took 3 years ), because I chose charmander and caught 5 other pokemon. I then got a full team and didn't know that a PC existed and I wondered where all my other pokemon went, so when I got to misty's gym, I literally kept using Metal Claw and Dragon Rage on EVERY pokemon that's water type... it took me over 2 years to finally defeat that gym cause of all the exp i got from rebattling her staryu. So when my charmeleon learned Flame Thrower at level 34 (YES THAT GYM GOT MY CHARMELEON TO LEVEL 34! ) I used it, and it literally obliterated all of Misty's mon. I don't know if Charmeleon went against the game mechanics and just wanted to get that gym over with or anything, but what I DO know is, that Charmeleon grew into Charizard and kept using weak moves against pokemon that had type advantages and still won.
Charmander was used in the WR for this game at one time. As you say, it's Flamethrower in Blaze can blow through pretty much any Pokemon regardless of type advantage. It takes specific routing though, if you try to play with Charmander the same as Squirtle you'll just die off and over

what emulator do you use
for 3 days i have been struggling to play fire red, i own it on my gameboy but i dont want to play it on that if i can on tv/pc, but every emulator i use either stalls out or doesnt let me use my ps4 controller, and the only one i can get working i cant set the enter button at triangle so every time i try to get to my pokedex or save hittitng the triangle button relaods me to my last save, its INSANE i even super glued thumb tacks to my controller to stop me but i have to go to my keyboard to enter my pokedex, i cant handle it anymore so i am asking a pro... you please help

Im unsure about one thing. Though this comment will probably never get noticed... Is it okay to use a vba emulator if you dont use the speed up or any cheats? They tend to have a better frame rate, and it says it can be used on Speedrun.com in the rules, but it also says all emulator ones will be hidden, so... I'm confused I guess

Turning in tall grass doesn't cut you any corners. Facing a different direction counts as a step in tall grass or any tile where you can encounter Pokémon.

There are a few places where time is wasted I think sub 2:10 maybe, but I doubt sub 2 (without mods anyway)
What did he do to not make the "would you like to switch pokemon" message come up every time he made an opponents pokemon faint? Also how did he fly out of the safari zone?
The game's menu has that option. It's "Switch" or "Set". In regular gameplay the switch option has the advantage of not losing a turn when switching pokémon but since he's using only one to fight the set option saves a lot of time.
I haven't played Fire Red/Leaf Green yet because I don't have a Game Boy Advance or DS Lite yet. And a cartridge of the game. But I'd love to play it someday.

Jao Paul Belza That’d be very challenging, considering that the first gym is a rock type gym. I wonder if he’d be able to pull it off, but it’s just a smarter choice to pick Squirtle.
Actually, thanks to Blaze, Charmander does very well with the right routing, and at one point the WR was held by Tyrant who used Charmander. It was debated for a while which one was faster, but it seems to be accepted now that Squirtle is only better by a small margin and way more consistent
