This presentation of Lee Ritenour is one of the best I´ve ever seen. Excellent. And his musicians. Patrice Rushen on keyboards is real good. She´s got the rythm. She´s number 1. well everybody there. !
I keep coming back to this one: Ritenour as always by the best. The lady who, in an incredible way, wraps herself in the keys with her amazing performance, lifts it all into an interaction of absolute best class.
Love the tone he is getting out of that Gibson hollow body. Lee seems to smoothly transition from an old school James Brown funk single coil type tone, right into a delta blues vibe with the slide, to a smooth jazz Wes Montgomery like lead tone on a dime. It’s incredible the versatility he gets out of that Gibson hollow body. First time I ever listened to Lee and already I can tell I’m going to become a lifelong fan.
HI Lee, Thank you so much for the show at "Blue Note! New York, year 198?" We are still expecting you to visit Iceland. We met you at Blue Note NY. Me Bryndis and my mother Gerdur from ICELAND. We Love your music, you have to come and visit and find out how dangerous country we are living. You will get to know a little bit of it, though you won´t be here and have a concert at "HARPA" our Orchestra Hall !!!
WOW..Lee and Patrice...and the whole crew....smokin' this favorite track of mine loved Wes..saw him at The Lighthouse in Hermosa in '67...Redefined guitar grooves for me..Thanks for posting!
Mick Kollins You saw Wes - that’s something. There will never be another with his spirit, tone, style - and worldwide impact. He changed jazz guitar and by extension pop and rock.
@ Wow, that must have been a thrill meeting him. I'm most familiar with his work with Zappa and Jean-Luc-Ponty but I'll check out his other stuff for sure. I'm a fusion freak if that's still what it's called but George had a sound all his own. Besides that he was an ultra cool cat who surely is missed but his music lives on. Cheers, Tgod....
Jazz is pure and this why I'm here. Pure music is very hard to play especially for guitarist. You don't see a jazz guitarist yelling around he is a guitar hero. They just put their head down, play and humble.
I keep coming back to listen to this and it just gets better. I think Lee is very much underrated and Patrice is astonishing. Great rhythm section also. Wonderful performance by all players.
veeery good ,the best smouth jazz that i listen in may life ! i´m from Brasil, samba country, but i love jazz!! congratulations my friend Massimo Zarro!!!
Very gifted musicians.....Lee comes out of a rock genre world....but can easily break into jazz, pop, quasi-funk, but a guitar guy who excels at his interpretation, incredible finger dexterity or command, and a master of tone and using instruments to expand and enrich his sound range and challenge the listener.
In the 80s, I used to get backstage passes included from the ticket scalper I bought good seats from. Had the balls to knock on the door, pre-concert in Houston, they let me in when I flashed the pass(!), no one but the band in the dressing room, I dropped the quick usual "big fan" stuff, and handed Lee who graciously signed a CD back liner, asking me where I got the sheet, and when I told him I dis-assembled the case to take it out, he remarked how clever that was and that no one had ever done that! Great days, reading the liner notes to learn all the new musicians to check out since they played on each others albums.
Cooool! Grooving, swinging, funky at the same time. The opening has shades of "Superstition", eh? Sets the RIGHT mood from the go. And the keyboard player is a treat, too! Thanx a lot for sharing!
@BLOGAN BURGESS I usually dont mix in others private life but as fan of Lee's music I dreaded Norwegian wikipedia and been surprised that following text is not included in English version " Ritenour is engaged to Japanese singer and songwriter Anri. His music is inspired by Wes Montgomery. Not only has he paid tribute to his hero in several contexts; he has also named his son (born 1993) Wesley."
My Man...Lee Ritenour...one of my mentors, although I've never met him...he epitomizes contemporary jazz artistry...love him...a brilliant mentor and Artist...on that slide too...💜 #MikeJohnsonJazz
I first heard him in the late 70's subsequently bought the Captain Fingers Album as a guitarist of 55 years plus I'm going to take up knitting, brilliant Mr Ritenour.
I did hear Lee Ritenour at the Direct-Disk LP recording from Sheffield Lab for the firt time with Dave Grusin's ''Discovered Again'' from 76. Then I did buy all his LP recordings from Captains Journey etc. He also was with some JVC Direct to Disk recordings like ''Ritenour Friendship'' 78 and ''Gentle Toughts'' 77. Has both these ''rare'' and maybe hard to find recorings right now. With people like Dave Grusin, Patrice Rushen, Anthony Jackson, Harvey Mason, Ernie Watts, Steve Forman, Don Grusin, Abraham Laboriel and Steve Gadd.
Wow Patrice Rushen almost forget how good she is id i remember her and Lee on Alponsos Johnson s solo album s inspirational great to hear again its still great
Ugh, he wasn't doing a cover of a W-Mont recording now, was he? Lee was channeling Montgomery's style/tone....playing octave chords/harmonics and sans pick in the realm of Wes. Not sure you know who Wes Montgomery was....he didn't play or sound like Jimi, guy. Lee plays in a smooth jazz genre....a niche where the artists try to bring jazz down to a more accessible level for us neophytes. I'd troll elsewhere...
Lee is so relaxed and likes to have fun playing his guitar always great guitar, as for the Drummer what can I say , he is great in his playing , all these year's as have went by and I though I was the only one that played this style of drumming no kidding , now I do not feel so quite alone in this style of drumming .
Lee has been an inspiration in my guitar playing for the last 50 years and keeps and inspiring me today. Thank you Lee!
The album Wes Bound exemplifies the greatness of two of the greatest guitarists: Lee and Wes . Outstanding!
This presentation of Lee Ritenour is one of the best I´ve ever seen. Excellent. And his musicians. Patrice Rushen on keyboards is real good. She´s got the rythm. She´s number 1. well everybody there. !
Patrice, I will forget you not! Lee Rit and crew as stellar as ever.

Her solo is really out of this world! I love it!
What a great tribute to the unique style that Montgomery was, and the lady keyboardist is groovy baby... great band Lee!!!
The combination of Lee Ritnour & Patrice Rushen it's smoky, either studio or live performance want you get is your money's worth. Fantastic show.

Nobody does funk like Patrice except maybe the late great George Duke....
@ Wow, that must have been a thrill meeting him. I'm most familiar with his work with Zappa and Jean-Luc-Ponty but I'll check out his other stuff for sure. Cooool! Grooving, swinging, funky at the same time. The opening has shades of "Superstition", eh? Sets the RIGHT mood from the go. And the keyboard player is a treat, too! Thanx a lot for sharing!
I`m not sure she(key player) is his wife?

This is Lee Ritenour at his best. The whole band, Patrice Rushen included, is simply outstanding. Thanks a lot for loading.
I first heard him in the late 70's subsequently bought the Captain Fingers Album as a guitarist of 55 years plus I'm going to take up knitting, brilliant Mr Ritenour.
This has to be one of the coolest things I ever heard.

Devo ammettere che l'avevo sottovalutato (nella mia ignoranza) e invece l'ho riscoperto da qualche tempo e lo stimo sempre di più. Grazie
Beautiful hand positioning, knows rules of 7 and 12, keys and cords solidly. His education is showing and he's Just Excellent!
One of my favorite songs by Lee 🎶🎵🎼♥️

Wow..effortless!
Check out LEE'S album WESBOUND, dedicated to WES MONTGOMERY. One of the best guitar albums ever.
Love Lee .... never saw him use a slide before .. exquisite
Smooth!!!!Nothing like great music.
Fusion: The only style where you can play a "Machine Gun"-esque riff followed by a distorted slide solo and call it a tribute to Wes Montgomery.
Ugh, he wasn't doing a cover of a W-Mont recording now, was he? Lee was channeling Montgomery's style/tone....playing octave chords/harmonics and sans pick in the realm of Wes. My favorite Ritenour tune!
Simply terific!
Everything seems to work, one would believe they might almost be able to walk on water as well. What a performance!
I love Lee ritenour, that man can play that guitar.
Great perfomance!
Love the guitar playing! Just recently bought a Motif xf great piece of kit! That is a beautiful sound.
Does anybody know which pedal he was using during his solo to get that sweet and subtle overdrive fuzz sound?
