Life is funny- when I was a jazz kid in the 60s I thought Hawaiian music was old men stuff- Now, that I'm an old Jazz Beatnik, I'd trade all those hot Bird licks for this blood- pressure- lowering bliss. Something very primal in this like the music of India... goes way deep into the psyche. Jerry is the living end. (rip) Band members are straight from Heaven....
Jerry Byrd is one of my idols ; in the playing of this grand guitar style of playing.. Music from the Islands is so smooth and wonderful & relaxing.. Make one want to throw a grass skirt on and dance to the waves.. Post some more of these fine renditions by Jerry..Bernie
Beautiful ❤️brings back sweet & tearful memories of my 100% full blood Hawaiian greatgrand father❤️who played his steel guitar every evening ! Love Jerry Byrds & his steel guitar ..just as good as my great grand father ~John K.Akapa ~❤️😊not famous😊 never wanted to be, just was 100% Hawaiian & lived our culture humbly❤️ I miss him❤️his 74 year old great grand daughter!

Yes, He was the Master of "Touch and Tone". NO one will ever be as good as he was. Proof... Buddy Emmons (the greatest pedal steel guitar player that will ever have lived), and countless other "greats", believe this and have often said it in different ways.
@@xx_pcgamer_xx6866 Talk trash ..z Rudi Wairata the best in the business….. I will never listen to Jerry as I don’t like his style and he is certainly not the best by far.Rudi had a masters degree in music and it shows.
For those of you that have spoken here about Jerry's beautiful steel guitar music and how very much it moves your inner spirit, I'd suggest you visit Jerry's fan club site. Lot's of photo's and songs to listen to.
music is not meant to be a childish pissing contest, each and every musician and the music they produce is beautiful, we are here to enjoy Jerry, Hiram, Dennis and Gary, that is sufficient.
Great, what a master of his craft. I wonder how he tunes both necks, i have a similar double neck 16 string. I have one neck tuned to C6 and was going to try for E13 on the other neck but never quite got there yet. Any advice from other lap steel players would be greatly appreciated :)
Hi contact scottys music in st.louis he got loads of tabs made by jerry byrd himself in both c-diatonic tuning that hes using in this video and c6th if that better for your choice.Scottys music also have a big steel guitar course made by jerry byrd and a tutorial dvd by jerry himself.
I hear a lot of imitators of Jerry Byrd’s style.Much easier to play than Rudi Wairata style.I never hear Jerry playing too fast try and copy Rudi’s style and see how close you can get. Then tell me who is the best.If it wasn’t for Rudi Wairata/George de fretes/Dennis Brown and the Kilima Hawaiian among others we wouldn’t be listening to Hawaiian music today.Aloha

Wonderful vocals and Hawaiian steel guitar. Thanks for posting this beautiful song.
Without any doubt Jerry Byrd the finest steel guitar player in the history of the instrument! Flawless and beautiful tone.

There's no music as beautiful as hawaiian music and no better steel man playing it than Jerry Byrd.
Shirley Murphey ...this is nothing if compare to George de Fretes or Rudi Wairata

Jerry is playing a short scale double neck Sho-Bud made by Shot Jackson of Sho-Bud in Nashville.
That's the fucking coolest thing I've seen in a while
I like how Jerry’s guitar has a faux-pedal steel look. Little Roy Wiggins also had one like that.
Man, that's beautiful. The only thing missing is some hula girls.
Nashville’s loss was Hawaii’s gain! Jerry was never appreciated in Nashville!

Does anyone know what kind of Steel MasterJerry Byrd is playing? Is it possible to get one similar somewhere?
It's a Sho-Bud
Is this his “C diatonic” tuning?
