So well explained. We discussed this procedure today at our club and I am sure there will be a couple of guys having a go now with the knowledge you have provided. Many thanks.
A beautiful example of wood turning Mike, the finished bowl looks stunning. I'm pretty sure your videos have inspired so many people to take up wood turning because you make it look so effortless. Great video it's a thumbs up from me. All the best Tony
I'm 17 years old currently doing art for my A level and enjoy some of the finer details, and watching your videos has made me really want to get my hands on the craft of wood turning. You create some marvellous pieces of work. Thank you
Mike, I'm just getting back into turning and was very impressed with your work which I will continue to follow! Its been 50 years since I did any work of this type and there are so many new changes since then ! Please keep the videos coming!
Oh wow mike, you really did that beautiful piece of timber justice! Your explanation and step by step process is brilliant for novices and expert turners too. I like that you told us about the mishaps proving that even skilful hands like yours can have things go wrong too! Many thanks
Thanks for another great video Mike. I love working with walnut. The great thing about wood turning is that you can have an impromptu design change (and we all have) and still end up with a beautiful piece. Matt
Stunning. I mean I like it. I like it a lot. You are so kind to show us your technique. I don't have a set of Cole Jaws.. it looks as if I need to invest. As my wife says, accessories accessories, ha ha ,, shes says lathe turners have more accessories than any other hobby. I am about to agree. Marvin from Texas.
Another great video Mike. First off-center bowl I've seen done, glad it was on your channel. Great demonstration and an absolutely beautiful bowl. Thanks for sharing this one. Fred
Beauty! I think it works better with the chamfer than it would have done without. Very striking patterning, I do love walnut, not least of all because of its lovely aroma when working it. Lovely job Mike, thanks for sharing.
Mike Incredible piece! I have found that walnut is such a beautiful wood. I'm getting ready to put up a few videos on some of the walnut I have. It is truly beautiful. Thank you so much for mentioning my channel.
Thanks Mark, you are so right regarding the beauty of some walnut. Looking forward to your future videos my friend, and the pleasure was mine in giving you a mention in dispatches :). Take care Mike
I really enjoyed this video, i have not done any off-center turning yet but perhaps now is the time to give it a try, i hope it turns out as good as yours, regards Mark
Beautiful bowl Mike and I agree with the beauty that is created by knots and exclusions as you say. I must admit not being able to get out there and do some more turning is killing me. Take care and keep up the great work. Your friend Albert
Really nice piece Mike. Several of my bowls have come out off set but not on purpose! LOL - glad to know how to do it right. And I think the knot adds a lot to it, very nice and I will have to "give it a go".
Bill Wells Ah I see Bill. Actually I have it on good authority that a good glue block with a mortise would be more than strong enough! I am going to try it for myself, and see how it goes. Take care Mike
OHHH THE CRINGE. I HAVE OCD AND AN OFF CENTER BOWL. OCD +OFF CENTER BOWL = AHHHHHH!!!!!!!! its nothing against you. its me. i have awful ocd. but u r an amazing carver
I really see how new I am at turning by watch you turn Mike. Your cuts are alot more controlled and calculated. Mine are sporadic and I have to sand more in the end. I guess that comes with more experience. Fine job Mike Also Thanks for your support to new turners. Being a new turner. I try to find new turners and give them as much support on you tube as I can.
Thanks Chris, it all takes practice, practice, and then a little more ;) I was a new turner three years ago and have learnt by watching others of experience on TH-cam, and practice! So the least I can do is give a little back :) Take care, and thanks for your support. Take care Mike
Very nice bowl, it turned out great. I was a bit confused at the start when you were marking the circles, but it all made sense when you started turning.
I guess I'd vote for the waste block glued on. At least it could reduce the depth of the screw holes. It seems that the base is a large enough gluing surface to withstand the shear force. But, each of us are solely responsible for consequences -- So I understand and appreciate your caution. Very nice looking bowl. Beautiful Alan
Thanks Alan, I have changed my views on using a glue block, as is seen in the quick follow up video I did. So many different ways to do things, and so little time to do them :) Take care Mike
Beautiful bowl, lovely grain and cool shape. Reminds me of an egg yolk. I like the knot where it is as well because you have turned it away and exposed it on the bias. Nice one ! Erik
Hi Mike, I'm Callum (15) and thought this video was brilliant so I just thought I'd let you know it motivated me yo make my own. So I made one this morning out of a blank of sycamore, which I think turned out ok for my first try. Once again thank you. Callum
Beautiful bowl Mike. As always the finish is just spectacular. Love the look of the walnut, I've used it to make a clock before and it's really nice to work with.
Mike, I think this bowl turned out great, on another one you might try adding a pedestal base to help give you room for the screws without losing the depth of the bowl and as to the knot you did the right thing in getting it in the depression of the bowl it adds so much charter to the piece thanks for sharing with us and inspiring us
