  • With their beloved Prophet gone, the Muslim community, in mourning, had to find a way to move forward but first, they had to agree on a successor to Muhammad, the Prophet of Allah.
In this video, we look at the expansion of Muhammad's empire from Arabia to Baluchistan in the East and Tunisia in the West. The early Islamic conquests changed the landscape of the world and created a pretty stable empire for a decent amount of time. It's the reason Muslims are found pretty anywhere other than Arabia. It's the reason today, Muslims are like a quarter of the world population.
There will be a separate video discussing why Muhammad's successors decided to expand their empire and why they were so successful at it. It's one of the most fascinating things in history how these traders and shepherds who couldn't read or write, living in a hellish landscape could win battles against the world's two superpowers.

    Hey, dude.
Lately, I've been binging some of these great history channels on TH-cam since I never got a chance to do a real deep dive of history in high school or college, and your stuff is among the top notch regarding this area!
History was always the subject that got neglected by me by other classes needed for career.
It's so fascinating and crucial to understand world history in order to fully appreciate the present.
I particularly appreciate the production value of your content. The segments are well-sized and the presentation is easy-to-follow with the graphics and narrative of the historical record.
I'm a fan of effort by content creators so I Patreon'd ya. Don't spoil yourself on that $1.50 a month. 😄
Peace and best of luck on the channel, friend. ☮️

I think it's more of a council because the idea of a parliament is that parliament only comes together to talk about rare and important decisions (in britain they just became really influential and permanent). The council is the (usually permanent) advisors of the king.
Also did I miss why he didn't want to destroy the byzantine empire? I thought it was just that it would be difficult to consolidate power in anatolia at the time.

    • @AlMuqaddimahYT
      @AlMuqaddimahYT  5 ปีที่แล้ว +16

Maybe. I just based it off the fact that in Pakistan, we call our parliament Majlis e Shur'a. It did act differently than a parliament.
There will be another video about the reason behind the expansion. He wanted Zagros Mountains and no further than that. That was his mission because these areas (Syria etc) had quite a bit of Arab influence. He didn't have any interest in destroying the Byzantines or even the Sassanids, just wanted a natural barrier that would protect Madina.

There are tons of beautiful stories from Umar ibn Khattab life as a caliph but I wanna mention one of them. Umar ibn al-Khattab declared in public: "Anyone who pays more for their dowry than what the Prophet [peace be upon him] used to pay, will put the excess amount in the Public Treasury.
A woman from the Quraish came to him and said: "O commander of the Believers, which have more right to be followed, the Book of Allah [the Qur'an]or your statement? He answered: "The Book of Allah."
So she told him, "You have just prohibited the people from giving the excess amount from the dowry, but Allah Taalah has revealed in His Book: "And if you have given them a great amount of gold as dower, take not the least bit of it back." [4:20]?
Therefore Umar said a few times: "The Woman is correct and Umar is mistaken."

A leader like this which is humble and is not complexed to state his mistakes is really one of a kind. The world and especially muslim world today would be in much a better state if there was a ruler like him.

The only reason that the Islamic armies where able to defeat the Byzantine armies was because the Byzantines and the Sassanian empires had just ended a very long war with each other and both sides were exhausted militarily, also the peoples of Syria and North Africa, where different branches of the Christian faith, and they where regarded as second class citizens by the rulers in Constantinople, and so they where happy to let the Arabs rule over them.

Narrator of the video says that hey doesn't believe Ali to be the true successor as he doesn't believe in dynastic politics, I would like to point out several of known facts that shows that Imam Ali (PBUH) is the true and rightful successor of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
    1. Imam Ali (SAW) is the only person in history to be born inside Kaba, a known fact. This makes him truly special. His birth itself is holy and no one in history has got the blessing of being born inside the most sacred place of Muslims
    2. Imam Ali (SAW) is widely believed to be a brave person and his heroics is known in many battles that were fought while Prophet was alive. Nabi always depended on Imam Ali for various battles
    3. It was Imam Ali (SAW) who bravely slept in Prophet's bed before Hijrat and didn't care about his life even after knowing that there was intelligence of an attack on Prophet's life which eventually happened - again a known historic fact.
    4. Imam Ali's knowledge of worldy affairs and religious affairs was exemplary and even Abu Bakr, Umar, and Usman couldn't even compete with Ali in those affairs and would often refer complex disputes and judgement to Imam Ali - again a known fact
    5. Prophet declared Ali as his successor in front of 70,000 people in Ghadeer-e-Khum. What else is needed.
    6. After Prophet's death, it was only Ali who was busy in his funeral preparations while Abu Bakr and group were busy in Sakifah to decide successor. This fact alone proves who is right and who is wrong. Abu Bakr didn't even care about funeral and claimed to be a Caliph - what BS. How can such a person be a succesor of Prophet and an Islamic leader! Abu Bakr and group lacked basic human courtesy to mourn and care about funeral of founder of Islam. But they chose to do politics in Sakifah - Naozobillah!

Just wanted to point a few mistakes in this video:
1: abu bakr died after sending khalid into the Levant after saying his famous saying "I'll make the romans ignore the Whispers of Satan by khalid ibn al walid" it wasn't Omar who sent him infact Omar was appointed after khalid had captured demascus.
2: it wasn't Saad who took control in iraq after khalid it was Abu ubaid al thaqafi but after his death in the battle of the bridge Omar sent saad bin abi waqqas.
3: it should be noted that khalid was demoted from supreme command by Omar who gave it to abu ubaidah amir ibn al jarrah, but nevertheless abu ubaidah always gave khalid the command of the army while he was the governor.
4: Omar didn't say imprison my son till the next caliph decides, Omar was already dead when his son killed hormuzan and firuz and the brother of saad bin abi waqqas. Saad then told them to imprison Omar's son for killing his brother till the next caliph decides.
Nevertheless Your videos are really good and informative.

      @moosayounas7050 2 ปีที่แล้ว

No. The time when Jerusalem was conquered Abu ubaida was already the army chief and Omar had already became the ameer. This is why when kaleed wanted to kill Thomas(son in law of haraclius) after conquering Jerusalem Abu ubaida didn't allow kaleed to do so.
      2. Abu ubaida and others had let kaleed to command in the battle of yarmook but not other battles.
      3. Omar after being wounded by feroz stayed alive for 2-3 days and at that time his enraged son obaidULLAH killed feroz's daughter and other relatives upon knowing this umar imprisoned his son and later the third caliph ussman gave blood money on behalf of obaidULLAH and he was freed from prison.
May ALLAH SWT grant us knowledge indeed all the knowledge we have is a blessing of ALLAH.

Imam Ali (SAW) must have reluctantly given support as he didn't care about worldly politics and didn't want fights and unrest just after the death of Prophet had created a lot of uncertainty. However, the fact remains that Prophet (PBUH) very clearly declared Imam Ali (SAW) as his rightful successor in front of a crowd of 70,000 people in Ghadeer-e-Khum (A known historic event that Sunnis conveniently deny as it goes against their belief) with his words "Man Kunto Maula, fa haza Aliun Maula" meaning, "For those who I was the maula, Ali is now their Maula". It should be given proper thought why Prophet said only this for Ali and not for anyone else. Clearly, Imam Ali (SAW) is the righteous successor who was the only one busy in Prophet's funeral after his death while Abu Bakr and group lacking basic human courtesy were busy planning succession in Sakifah even before Prophet was buried - Naozobillah!

I has found why umar ibn khattab dismiss Khalid ibn Walid
When Umar took charge of the caliphate, the Muslim armies were fighting against the Persians in Iraq and the Romans in Syria. The army in Syria was under the command of Khalid bin al-Walid, the favorite general of Abu Bakr. Umar's first act as khalifa was to dismiss him from all his commands, and to appoint Abu Obaida bin al-Jarrah as the supreme commander of the Muslim forces in Syria.
Shibli says that Umar had, for a long time, nursed a secret hatred of Khalid because of the latter's excesses. Umar had indeed dismissed Khalid because of his excesses but it appears that personal rancor was also at work. He was jealous of Khalid's fame and popularity. If he disliked Khalid's transgressions, he ought to have formally indicted him, and should have ordered full investigation of his crimes in murdering Malik ibn Nuweira and in appropriating his widow. If Khalid had been proven guilty, then Umar ought to have passed sentence on him according to the Islamic law. But there was no indictment and no investigation. Khalid was summarily dismissed and he died in poverty and obscurity in 21 A.H.

Saying that The Sunni-Shia Split Starting when Abu Baker becomed a caliph is highly wrong, it actually started when A jewish guy called abullah ibn saba said that ali should be Muhammad successor just like how aaron was moses successor, and he was the one who made the false claims about uthman which you and the other secluer historians are saying such as him not being a capable caliph or that ali being superior to him just because he was a trader and not a military commander even though abu baker who was a much more successful caliph than ali was a trader and didn't have this much military history before becoming a caliph, eventually, Abdallah ibn Saba started gaining more followers which known today as Shias.
Also, let's not forget to mention that uthman married two of muhammed's daughters while ali married only one.
Note: Libya was conquered during uthman's rule not umar, and Tunisia wasnt fully conquered until Muawiyah's rule which was lead by the amazing general uqba ibn nafi.

And everybody start discussing and arguing, and things get heated up. Abu Bakar and Umar were informed of this situation. They went there and tried to calm things down. Fearing civil war, Abu Bakar asked them to choose either him or Umar for the seat of next Caliph. Umar, knowing the sensitivity of the situation, backdown in favour of Abu Bakar. @Valatmir 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

@Dark Lightning Its very complicated, sunnis say al nabi (as) meant "friend" with the word mawla, not leader.
      The Hadith is short is:
Prophet Muhammad s.a.w raised ali (as) hand during his last pilgremage before death and said the following to the people:
Whoever i was his "mawla" ali is his "mawla"
Mawla has many meanings, for the most parts it means Leader, but it CAN also mean Friend.
The Sunnis think so because most Companions HATED Ali (as) but pretended to like him for the Prophet, there are many hadiths about it, and they say that it was necesarry to say for the Prophet s.a.w to declare ali (as) as a Friend.
Shias take it simple and say the Prophet s.a.w declared Ali (as) in Ghadeer as his sucsessor.
There are many Hadiths like Hadith al Kisa, Yawm al dar or "Ali to me is like Harun was to Musa", which clearly indicate that ali (as) has to be the sucessor, but Sunnis have an answer for all those tbh, its really just how you interpret it, me for myself i was sunni and i started believing in Imamah (Leadership), althrough i reject the 12 shia view

And Allah swt. tells us in the Quran to not obey sinners, so no it is NOT obligatory to follow a leader which is wrongdoing.
Imam Hussein (as) revolted against his Leader, so did Zayd ibn ali (as) and many more.
Its funny that even your sunni ulema such as imam schafi'i (ra) imam malik (ra) abu hanifa (ra), they all revolted WITH the Alids against the caliphs, imam Malik for example was brutally tortured.

The reason for the rule of abu Baker is so controversial, it’s because they distracted Ali with mohammed’s death. knowing if he was at the private meeting he might have been a stronger contender for the caliph. For him it felt they don’t even care about his opinion as if he wasn’t important at all. Also , there were numerous proof in Muhammed speeches that suggested Ali should be his successor.
Fatima mohammed daughter was famously angry and furious about Ali not being the caliph.

correction there was no private meeting
ansar and mahajiroon were gathered at saqifa bani saada and historic recrods clearly mentions that there was civil war about to break out
than abu bakar umar was at prophet funeral and messeage came to call him and then he went there and solved the problem which was almost resulting in civil war and eventually abu bakar was selected as caliph

اسلام عليكم ورحمه الله، great video!🌼
1.When the messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم was ill during the last days of his life he appointed Abu bakr رضي الله عنه to lead the prayer as he couldn't do so in his illness.
    2. After the messenger of Allah 's (صلى الله عليه وسلم ) death ,the ansar and mahajiroon had a meeting in the courtyard of banu saidah
    3. Abu bakr, Umar and Abu ubaidah Al Jarrah( رضي الله عنهم( went there , after a debate Abu bakr told them to choose Umar or Abu abaidah Al Jarrah to be the caliph but they both pledged to Abu Bakr as there caliph
Just a point which I thought was worth mentioning🌸

After Laying waste to Sassanian armies during his campaign in 634, Khalid was sent to Syria-Palestine to combat Romans
During those times there was no Muslim armies in Mesopotamia which was reconqred by Persian for 2 years but later Saad Ibn Abi Waqqas decisively defeated Sassanians in november of 636 Ad muslim army had 30,000 troops while Persians had around 70,000 troops under Rostam Farukzad
Over 50% of Sassanian troops perished during battle along with Rostam and after that they posessed a threat to Muslims only in 642 when a Sassanian army under Piruz Khosraw numbering around 100,000 men marched against Muslim army again under Saad at Nahavand
But again Persian were outsmarted by Saad and outflanked by elite and devastating Mobile guards od Muslims and many drowned in river
They lost ove half of their men and the never ever possesed a major threat to Muslims

Just a note. You said Christianity was "canonised" 300 years laters. The present day canon of the New Testament took some time to be forged, but the earlies gospel, Mark's, is of around year 70 and the earliest of Paul's letter is of around year 50. Considering that Jesus died around 30, forty years is not very long. Whoever wrote the gospel of Mark probably knew some of the apostles personaly or some disciple of them.
