brilliant video, just found your channel. i just did my first bike packing and my first solo holiday to Mull in June and loved it !(on a gravel bike too!) loads of stuff resonated with me that you talk about. just being out on my bike and in nature really helps keep the head clear. heres to more bike packing!!
Hi Cameron, oh that looks like sheer luxury, just you, and your loaded bike. The only bike packing I've done was years ago when I was a teenager, I think I was still at school in fact. My pal Davie Smith and me had old second hand bikes, mine was £4 from the Glasgow barras, everything was carried on our backs in old ex army back packs, although we called them rucksacks. We cycled from parkhead to Loch Lomond, when we tried to put the tent up in the lay by just past Duck bay marina we were told there was no camping there. So we just spent the night on the wee bit of beach there. Our healthy meal was square sausage fried in butter on a wee paraffin fueled primus stove. I still like my bike though, good to see you getting out on yours, looking forward to the next video.
Lots of parallels Cameron - diet changes, backpacking, now more bikepacking since older, GR20 (2008), even Glen Feshie recently in April ( 4 nights backpacking ), cycling with no rucksack - all gear on the bike. Designed & built my own compact bikepacking tent, which is held up by the bike. Have enjoyed your books and programs over many years. Nice to see you looking healthy, probably the change in diet. Responsible wild camping is so good for the soul, and getting to see and stay in the best places in Scotland. There's plenty of prime bikepacking trips in Scotland, look forward to future videos. Thanks. All the best
Cameron I’ve been following your career through your various publications since the 80’S and as a one time avid reader of TGO. I really enjoy your natural presenting style and feel a kinship when I listen to speak about being outside. You get to the kernel of what it means to you, especially in this lovely little video. Thank you and happy bikepacking!
Cameron. I absolutely love this video. Your voice and narrative are wonderful to listen to, and with an economy of words, your stories are rich in detail and thought provoking. I really hope you will make more videos like this one, and that it will be a very, very long time until, as you said, it’s time to return to the bosom of Mother Earth. Wonderful and thank you.
I lived in scotland for 12 years and miss it very much. Had to go back south with work but I do return when I can, . Glen feshie is one of the places I head for. Thanks for reminding me, I love the place.
Thanks for taking us along with you to this beautiful glen. I’m also trying to lose a few pounds and that pasta, onion and herb meal is making me very 😋 hungry! I have the newer version of your MSR tent, bit lighter, more mesh, probably not quite as robust as yours but fine for my kind of camping. I love the outdoors, I’m a female in my 60s and a walk or gentle bike ride with my little brew kit and watercolour set is just heaven. We are so lucky to live in the British Isles with such a variety of landscapes.
Oh wow... I didn't know you had a YT channel. Yipee! I've watched you for more years than I care to count and love your books (one had me crying like an eejit when your dog died). Love your work Cameron... thanks for all you do! 🫶
Great to see you still active in the outdoors Cameron, not letting recent health issues stop you - inspiration for us all. ATB for your continued recovery and ambitions for future trips.
One of my favourite places to visit, a very special place indeed. Thank you for sharing and inspiring me to get back out on the bike and explore nature! Look forward to your next adventure 🙏
You're absolutely correct when you say it's a healing place. Whenever we return home from a holiday in Scotland we feel like we've 'de-aged'! No place better for the body and soul. Thank you for your fabulous videos, Cameron.
One of your best videos Cameron. Great to see you in your element in one of Scotlands best glens. I'm off on the TMB this Sept so was heartened to hear you recommend. The JMT is on my bucket list too. ATB and happy trails . Andrew
A great Ambassador for Scotland Cameron McNeish. Walked the Scottish National Trail which Cameron devised its a spectacular long distance walk and it also goes through Glen Feshie which is in the video. Would recommend it to anyone.
As always Cameron, your words are inspirational. Your editorial role at TGO made that publication a kind of bible to me, and you actually published a few words of mine. Yes, as you say, get out and enjoy the outdoors. I'm actually on the cusp of a two-month thruhike in the Alps, sitting here typing this but not in the best state physically or emotionally, but I know, as you know, that a few days into my hike I will experience the blessings and healing that nature gives us.
What a lovely reply. Thank you. Yes, indeed as you say Cameron, let the outdoors wash & refresh us. On a thruhike of the Pyrenees several years ago, I got stuck in a rut health wise & mentally, with doubts as to if I could continue. I phoned home, and my dear late mum said to me "Can you see the hills?", I said yes, and she said "You're there, and now is your opportunity. Do it." I did, fell in love with a French woman and had the best time. I also made it to the Mediterranean Sea and paddled a bit.
Nice hearing you reminiscing Cameron, I was in Glen Feshie yesterday, first time in over 20 years. I was struck just how beautiful it is thanks to rewilding. If only the rest of Scotland could look like this. Look forward to your next video.
Yes. I was there in April, Mr Polson has and is doing a fine job. Been visiting there since the mid 80's and it's just getting better and better. Shows the potential for lots of other parts of Scotland too.
I've got a background in Ecology and love Scots pine it gets me emotionally when I see the hope for the future with this rewilding. This place looks like heaven.
Wonderful. Good to see you on your gravel bike. However, with those places within a reasonable mileage of your home, I guess if it gets too difficult you could eventually easily adapt your Trek Powerfly 5. Many thanks for sharing.
@@CameronMcNeishOutdoors I’ve been very lucky, insofar as I’m catheter-free and don’t need dialysis. But it has curtailed my hill and bike activity. Your videos, especially after your own medical dramas, are urging me to push on and get at least some action in. All the best to you.
Great Cameron, good to see you looking well, I think I camped on the exact spot as you when I bike packed in there last year. I'm glad you didn't cut the top off your finger with that knife 😂 All the best.
That was not filmed recently in this shocking summer we have been having certainly in the west of Scotland. That is a Glen I am really keen to explore on my bike but my days of solo camping are over for me as I would starve as pouring boiling water with my hand tremor would either end up with a scalding or repeated attempts until the water source ran dry. At least my range in and out on the eMTB would allow me to see a good bit of the scenery. Where is the best place to park up and gain entry in your opinion.
For a great ride that takes in Glen Feshie I’d recommend ‘The best bike ride in the Cairngorms?’ - also on Cameron’s channel. It really is good!!!! We parked at the car park in Feshiebridge - shown on OS map.
Lovely video Cameron. I am thinking of trying some bike packing since slowing down on the hills. Is your gravel bike an E-bike? I am only returning to cycling and the choice now is overwhelming! Thanks Dave
No, it's a non-electric gravel bike. I still use my e-bike for not for bikepacking. Essentially the distances I want to cover when bikepacking are greater than those allowed by the battery on my e-bike, which is about 40 miles max. I occasionally go off for two nights or more bikepacking so unless I have a way of charging the battery I'm restricted to non-electric.
@@CameronMcNeishOutdoors thanks and that makes sense. We are wardens on a very small site near Thornhill Dumfries and amazing range of bikes we get to see
I’ve had my cardiac event and this was the diet I was advised to follow. Do I take the advice of NHS consultants or an anonymous ‘recent American study’?
@@CameronMcNeishOutdoors aye. really just look at the keto/intermittent fasting guru Dr Mosley and see how it worked out for him a few weeks ago .... stop listening to gobshites selling books and products..
I've never had an issue with cholesterol. My arteries were blocked with calcium and no-one seems to know why, other than possibly hereditary. However, as with anything like this it gives you a warning and I have changed my diet quite a bit.
Nice one Cameron. All about the journey & experience. A breath of fresh air in this space where it's all about the gear & clickbait titles.
Another great clip cameron great area to camp

Great trip Cameron. You are an inspiration, especially for those of us that can't do the big backpack trips now. Some great ideas.

Add a bit of heatshrink used in electronics, to the handles of your MSR Titan kettle. Much more useable.
Got myself an e-bike at last and looking for locations to go camping with it where the roads are "less lethal". Loved Feshiebridge and Sgòr Gaoith.
