It sure is fashionable these days to bash California. For sure, like anywhere else, it has its challenges. But there are very few places on the planet that offer the easily accessible natural beauty that you have generously shared with us. Like others,

California does really have such a diverse set of incredible landscapes. Rolling greens hills, beautiful beaches, lush forests, striking coastal bluffs, towering mountains, deserts that look otherworldly... we got 'em all.
My partner and I just started using a stationary bike. It hurts…a lot. It’s still pretty fun. Not sure how long it’ll be until I get to “riding up a mountain” level of strength/stamina but it’ll be nice when I get there. You’ve given a bit more encouragement for me to not stop. Thanks for that 😁
That's awesome. When I first started mountain biking I was gasping for breath up a "hill" that barely counted as a hill. It is amazing how quickly the fitness/stamina comes once you get consistent :)
Try padded shorts for a more comfortable ride, I made my own, or a different seat...
Great video Elena and Kyle and beautiful scenery. I'm not trying to tell you how to ride a bike but watching you pedal up hill in the beginning of the vid it looks like to me that you've got some hip flexing going on. Not knowing your riding history I just thought I'd mention it. You're young so now is the time to make sure your riding position is optimal. It maybe useful to visit a bike position expert for advise. I wish you both all the best in the future

This video brought back memories of my younger years in California. I and my friends did the very same thing as you. The only difference was we rode small Japanese motorcycles. The oneness with nature and enjoying the beauty of nature was rejuvenating. Thank you for reminding me of how fortunate I was then and to still have those memories!

Many years ago I car camped in a tent a bit south of there in the San Bernardino mountains overlooking LA and the Pacific, not far from the Mount Wilson observatory, and it was just as scenic. It was my final stop before hitting the coast on a cross-country drive that started in NY a month earlier. Sadly, I heard that the whole place burnt up in a massive brush fire some years later.
I really do need to get back into bikepacking. Haven't done it in decades but I really enjoyed it. I'd have to do it all by bike though to make it feel "real". I think I can do it on a long weekend, leave early Friday, set up camp that evening, ride some more the next day, set up camp a second night, then head back early Sunday to make it home in time, around 150-200 miles total.

Excellent ROI on a quick, overnight bikepacking excursion. I find that, many times, all it takes is a relatively thin slice of time in Mother Nature's playground to fully disconnect and "reboot".
It's true, I actually really love these short lil trips outside.

I'm not sure what I expected watching your full video since I normally tune into your channel for woodworking with a pleasant face and voice, but this video was really amazing. You should be very proud of your excellent photography and editing skills, it's very impressive. I can't speak for everyone, but once kids come along its very tough to find time to get away as a couple, I'm glad you are taking that time to unplug and bond. Cheers.

Being in the UK, cycling along the highways seems wild as it’s not allowed over here. Anyway, lovely video, great scenery, great adventure. I’m not jealous 😂
In the US, bikes are allowed on some highways and not others. I try to avoid highways when possible, as it does feel a bit sketchy riding on them even when allowed 😅
The hills in Scotland turn brown in the fall, winter and early spring, when the weather is at its coldest and wettest, its just really wet. In California, its the opposite.
Hmm that's interesting. The images of Scotland I've seen makes it seem like it's perptually green.

Inspirational, makes me want to go bike packing..I just need a bike packing tent and a sleeping bag and pad.
A few people I know bikepack with only a sleeping bag and sometimes a hammock. Just depends on the weather / environment you live in.

Back in the day when I raised mountain bikes, I used to love climbing that was my thing but a hill in front of me a dirt hill, and I was all in all the way

I was curious how much you bring in the way of water and drinks?
I'm almost 60 and really like staying hydrated, wonder if a 3 gallon or bigger Thermos would be necassary. Great Video thankyou. I have 2 new mountain bikes and don't care about jumping and cliffs this looks way better.
For a one nighter like this one it's not too bad, I bring about 3 Liters (in my hydration backpack). If it were longer than that, I'd likely bring a water filter and find a water source to refill rather than haul a ton of extra water with me.
I want to get back into mountain biking and I have been looking at a couple of different bikes. I want a bike mainly for trail riding, so it between a Specialized Fuse sport and a Trex Roscoe 8. Any advice would be great. I love your videos keep up the good work!,

Do you guys use a pad or an air mattress under your sleeping bags? Where you camped looked a bit rocky
Just the pads, we did a sweep of the area we camped before we put up the tent to remove any debris too large.

I’ve been living in a trailer around Pismo Beach area and have my gravel bike now and getting gear for bike packing. Which trail was this if you don’t mind sharing. I doubt I’ll be coming back tho, now in Colorado…
It's West Cuesta Ridge. It's a very popular fire road for camping.
Are there any mountain lions 🦁 or wolf or fox. I live here in Marin county and sometimes I see fox and mountain lions 🦁. I grew up in a farm and I am always aware of wild life. Awesome view.
Yes to the mountain lions, but they are rare. Attacks from them are even rarer, so I don't worry too much and take basic wildlife safety precautions.
