Yes. They had the choice to go LOTR/Dune/Star Wars route and make it less camp than the cartoon so audiences feel real investment in the characters OR do something dumb like make Eternia a dream or the contents of some magical book etc like Never Ending Story. Source material has fantasy and sci-fi elements that can tie into a story about real astronauts from Earth (Adams mother) This is lame So many changes would be bearable if Adam/Heman was actually from a real Eternia
Someone explained it like it's almost like the Robin Williams movie Hook where he's living on earth and been there for so long he forgot he's He Man and all his battles with Skeletor.Maybe after Skeletor was defeated they thought for good he came to earth to visit and fell in love with an earth girl and decided to stay since Eternia was safe. That would make more sense then this crap origin
Dude. They tell you the story at the beginning of every episode. “I am Adam, prince of Eternia and defender of the secrets of Castle Greyskull. And this is Cringer, my fearless friend. Fabulous secret powers were revealed to me the day I held aloft my magic sword and said, “By the power of Greyskull!”
Remember his mom was an astronaut from earth who crashed o. Eternal and married the king. Let’s say in this she had a fling and then ultimately returned home to find out she is pregnant…
I swear to God...if they think tying this to the first live action movie as an homage....I will lose my shit! Earth has no business being in a He-Man movie...PERIOD!!! Develop Eternia for crying out loud
This is WHY Hollywood fails. They think we want to see THEIR Version of an already SUPER Great established story. JUST DO THE STORY as it is! He-Man is Perfect.
Then it's not a He-Man movie. What if they made a Superman movie where he is not from Krypton and gets his powers from a mystical amulet? The movie itself may be good, but that would not be Superman, right? Then why is it OK to do it to He-Man?
It only makes the Origin of "Prince Adam" son of "King Randor" change drasicly if he was hidden away growing up on Earth. The story of his mother "Queen Marlena Glenn" was that she was an Astronaut from Earth. Her ship crash-landed on Eternia, soon before she met then "Prince Randor."
If I want to see He-Man on Earth I can just watch Dolph Lundgren go at it. He-man doesn’t need to come to Earth and even less appear on an episode of “The Office “ WTMFF!!!
Let's see.... Trouble pre production, check. Lack of faith from studio, check. Questionable casting, check. Not sticking to core story, check. Well...now we just wait for a trailer with a barf bag.
I think Earth should come into the narrative because of Marlena Glenn, but later. Because of the 1987 film, I’m just really touchy about Earth being in a MOTU story. I want a Star Wars meets Lord of the Rings meets Avatar movie - Earth isn’t a part of that, and feels like a cop-out.
NO, just no. This is so stupid. Why always real earth in this He-Man movies. (Like the Dolph one) Just don´t call it He-Man. Is this some Isekai He-Man? Everything seems just wrong.
I’m okay with the same things John is usually, but I’m getting tired of Film Makers taking liberties for no reason at all. The true lore of Masters is great. Sure the cartoon is corny, but you don’t need to make it corny. The new series on Netflix that everyone was hating on, is fantastic and could translate to live action easily.
I don't want Prince Adam on Earth I'm worried like the first movie that was on earth they will have cheap effects He-man is not from Earth. Like he said make like avatar but He-man version
In the original series , Queen Marlena ( He-man's mother) is a pilot that came from earth 👀👀👀👀 , so my theory is this : Something really bad happen on Eternia that Queen Marlena needed to escape to save his son . ( From Skeletor or maybe Hordak )
Yeah, it's going to be like The Matrix, with Adam like Neo bored in an office job. Adam's mother Queen Marlena is from Earth, so the narrative may be about keeping Adam safe at the beginning of the story.
I grew up with the original film and cartoon. I was a huge fan and the recent series on Netflix from Kevin Smith is pretty good as well. This makes me skeptical from a story perspective. I do like Travis Knight and I’ll hope for the best. He-Man if done well could be a fantasy sci-fi epic with humor injected in some of the sillier areas. You can’t really ground He-Man on earth without losing most of what makes it interesting. Ray, I also want to the Avatar feeling when I see Eternia.
I have an idea.... how bout we actually get to see Adam hold up his sword and turn into He-man with og music theme , that would give me goosebumps when I was kid ha I loved it, and I want Orko, Cringer aka Battle Cat .....Skeletor obviously...and his Panther l I'd be stoked for that.
There's some things I don't mind when it comes to reviving a property... HOWEVER, if you're going to not respect the source materials by changing what made the property what is was/is... That is the biggest middle finger to the fans who loves the brand. It reminded me of when Michael Bay wanted to make the Ninja Turtles from another planet and Shredder being a company man lol.
This movie is going to flop they need the power of AI to make a real legit looking He-Man and the characters this movie cannot take place on planet Earth
Oh my God, they're going with the concept of the Masters of the Universe sequel that never got made, but got dissected and changed up, and ended up becoming the Van Damme classic, Cyborg.
Wasn't prince Adam's mom an astronaut from Earth in the cartoons? Maybe they'll say in this movie that she got pregnant and went back home with her kid?
Why can't they just go back to the original mini-comics that came with first-release figures for reference??? There's enough there to make it interesting. No goofy, dual identity, Clark Kentish Prince Adam, no goofy Orko (although he can be made cool), no goofy Cringer, or goofy psa's. Just a villager from an ancient line of "He-Men" destined to be a future king of Greyskull fighting for possession of a dual-power sword. If done right, The hero's journey works! Not to mention a badass battle cat coming from a race of mystic cats that cannot be broken but chooses a worthy rider into battle! Ya know, like real cats...lol. I just want gritty, barbaric mysticism with a little science mixed in with minimal characters but heavy on characterization leaving room for great world-building! A little fan service always, always goes a long way!
Herman was my jam as a kid….not GI Joe, not Star Wars, not Voltron (I mean I watched those and has some characters but…) it was He-Man. I’m so sad that inwi leave this earth before they ever make a good live action He-Man😕
the thing that stuck me as strange was that skeletor was incredibly bulky...shouldn't he have been bony? (i liked to imagine he had an obese brother called lipitor 🙂)
Is this going to turn into another Snake Eyes GI Joe origins? I was fine with Henry playing Snake Eyes, but then the writers screwed up what made Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow cool in the first place. So if they are re-writing He-Man, this movie will bomb too.
I think the reasons for the change is the budget, it’s easier to start off the story of Adam/He-man on Earth because they wouldn’t have to create an entire different world like Eternia, and when they are on Eternia bet it’s a small amount.
Sounds like a sorcerer sent he man to earth. Some eternians must travel to earth to find Adam, convince him he’s he-man and go to eternia to fight someone not skeletor. Cause skeletor is pulling strings behind scenes
Total Recall was the first thing that came to mind, with Eternia in place of Mars. But I guess it will feel more like The Last Starfighter or Flash Gordon or John Carter in the way it throws the hero into a new world to do battle - as long as the conflict and call to action are clear, I think it can work. Leto will need to fill the screen though, Langella did such a great job.
MOTU have so many different origins. With the Sorceress/Teela. With Adam/He man. With Man at arms/Fisto . Keldor/Skeletor and so forth. Comics books. TV and movie. All have different universes. I just hope it truly feels like a Masters
This sounds like Mattel copying how they made the Barbie movie but in reverse. For example, Barbie comes to the real world from Barbie World where she’s nothing more than a doll for kids to play with before deciding to stay in the real world as a human. Except with He-Man, the plot is that Adam is in the real world where He-Man is a toy and comic book character for kids before he finds a way to return to Eternia and presumably stays in Eternia. I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s not a reference to Barbie just to establish a shared universe that Mattel’s been alluding to for years.
Ok, I'm going to play devil's advocate here. If this is true, we know Prince Adam's mother was from earth. What if for some reason she fled back to earth to keep her son and the Heir to the Throne of Eternia hidden until he was old enough to receive his birthright and the Power of Greyskull.
If this proves true, I wonder how, or if, it affects the lore that his mother Queen Marlena was an astronaut from earth before crashing on Eternia and marrying the King.
For actual OG fans... we know that Prince Adam wasn't a thing... the toys came out before the cartoon messed with the story and made it kid friendly The mini comic books that came with the figures told of two halves of the same sword that He-man and Skeletor fought for each others halves to merge it and be able to open Grayskull and get to its secrets....period,,,,, Adam was made for the cartoon and should be left out of a true Masters of the Universe movie.
This should 100% be the source material for the live action movie. The original Filmation cartoon was literally made for kindergartners- not what adult fans want for themselves or for their kids.
While everything you said about the initial pre-cartoon origin story is true, had it not been for the Filmation carton, He-Man would have remained a niche product and not the 80's pop culture icon that it became. The best you can hope for is the movie having nods/easter eggs to the pre-cartoon roots, but the movie's foundation has to mainly consist of the Filmation cartoon time period. If they veer too far or completely away from the 80's cartoon, the movie will surely fail at the box office. Remember, it was a struggle just to get this movie greenlit, and even so, the studio is very nervous because this movie could potentially bomb big time. If this movie doesn't have a Prince Adam, beloved characters and a story line that resembles that Filmation product, bad word of mouth will kill any chance of this movie being successful. The vast majority of people know of He-Man because of the Filmation production. That 80's live action movie strayed too much from the cartoon (on top of having a crummy plot), and that is the main reason why it ended up being a huge disappointment and only relegated to having a somewhat cult following some years later.
@@alexvalcarcel9590 I disagree. No franchise production has been safe from having its original story or lore butchered and/or completely ignored. Rings of Power is one of dozens of examples from over the last few years. The original MOTU cartoon was silly and geared towards very small children and the studio falls back on it at their peril. The Kevin Smith product released on Netflix was vastly superior to anything that Filmation conceived or created back in the the day. It needs to stay in the 80’s permanently.
3 points: 1. He Man creator Roger Sweet said that Dolph Lundgren was TOO THIN to play the strongest man in the universe HE MAN is a VERY MUSCLE guy and that kid (the Hollywood actor) would take at least 10 years to have a similar physique! 2- The forced inclusion is going to screw up the movie since there ARE African American characters in the ORIGINAL INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY. Like for example Clamp Champ, Melaktha, GARN and Shokoti (where two of them were created by the only African American 1984 screenwriter Don Manuel) I mean those "WOKES" who think they have the ability to make a He Man movie... THEY DON'T KNOW ANYTHING! 3.- Idris Elba should play Melaktha or Skeletor 👍🏻👍🏻 and Phil Heat as Clamp Champ 🏆
Sounds like it’s getting the Barbie movie treatment. The whole meta thing. I can see Mattel lobbying hard for this in the wake of the success of Barbie. I’m not wild about it, but it could be cool.
They should stick to the Original .He-Man and the Master of the Universe. Plus his Mother is from Earth. Unless King Randor came to Earth and did it with his mother a nd went back home. Or this a. Alternate Time Line.
I'm not panicked. I trust Travis Knight as a storyteller. We know He-Mans mother is from Earth, so this might have Star-Lordy or reverse-Superman vibes. He could be born on Eternia and hidden away from Skeletor and need to return to defend Grayskull. Loosen up guys! And don't judge until you see it 💪
I think if they do it right it could work. Where skeletor rises to power but can’t find the sword and it’s hidden from everyone and the only one who can get it is he-man when he’s of age so they send him to earth to hide him till he’s of age then it could work. And make him an author who created the story if he man and it turns out it’s all real and from his memories as a young child and that’s why he was telling the story. It could work IF done right.
It sounds like they got their characters mixed up. Because the only main hero we don’t see first (as the audience) on Eternia was Adora! Adam’s twin sister (She-Ra) had that storyline which was okay for animation but switching it for the main character on the big screen: I don’t know.
Not hating the idea but in lore and as a reimagining there is a simple answer. Queen Marlena is from Earth, so instead of staying she makes back to earth but oops didn’t use birth control so the heir to the throne of Eternia is on earth and has to gain the power of his ancestors to take on the enemy forces of Snake Mountain. I enjoyed the reimagined version on Netflix with Ram Ma-am, so I’ll give it a shot though I have a feeling I’ll probably see it as entertaining but maybe in name only. As for Harry Potter nah, that’s Percy Jackson if I’m right and that’s the story their going with.
This just reeks of the people behind this being embarrassed of the source material and doing what they can to water it down for modern audiences.
Yes. They had the choice to go LOTR/Dune/Star Wars route and make it less camp than the cartoon so audiences feel real investment in the characters OR do something dumb like make Eternia a dream or the contents of some magical book etc like Never Ending Story.

Yes remember the Dolph Lungren HeMan it sucked the movie was on Earth and it was trash

Word
This is WHY Hollywood fails. They think we want to see THEIR Version of an already SUPER Great established story. JUST DO THE STORY as it is! He-Man is Perfect.
Yes, because having earth involved in the 86' movie worked so well.
Then it's not a He-Man movie. What if they made a Superman movie where he is not from Krypton and gets his powers from a mystical amulet? The movie itself may be good, but that would not be Superman, right? Then why is it OK to do it to He-Man?

He Man should be a fantasy set on Eternia. This is probably not a true rumor. Let them tank the story before it even starts.
The start of this film needs to be based in Eternia! It's that simple..😊
If I want to see He-Man on Earth I can just watch Dolph Lundgren go at it. He-man doesn’t need to come to Earth and even less appear on an episode of “The Office “ WTMFF!!!
Watch him not turn into He-Man until the last 30 mins of the movie 😂
Hollywood ruining another franchise that fans grew up with.
Here we go again 🤦🏻♂️. He-Man on earth again as in the 1987 movie (for budget reasons too i assume)
Let's see.... Trouble pre production, check. Lack of faith from studio, check. Questionable casting, check. Not sticking to core story, check. Well...now we just wait for a trailer with a barf bag.
The irony of this is Adam is half earthling. His mother is a astronaut from earth that King Randor found and married
The worlds of MOTU are so rich and vast that spending any amount of time on Earth seems like a huge cop out.
He doesn't need to be on earth first. Didn't they learn from the last movie.

I'm sorry, I ain't happy about this, I don't care for excuses, I want what I want and this ain't it, I'm stubborn, so sue me
Why do studios think starting on Earth and then going to a fantastical world still works?
no clue.
He-man’s mother is from earth and that’s from a episode of the cartoon 💯

Sure the cartoon is corny, but you don’t need to make it corny. The new series on Netflix that everyone was hating on, is fantastic and could translate to live action easily.
The reason is the same one why the first movie played mostly on Earth. Not enough money.
Sounds like complete trash.
What’s that got to do with saving the whales?
So the discussion should be: Which will make more money? “Kraven” or “He-Man”? This is a DOA film.
If it’s true it’ll bomb.. and we’ll never get another attempt at Masters of the Universe.
Yup. Just like how Snake Eyes killed GI Joe forever
I don't want Prince Adam on Earth I'm worried like the first movie that was on earth they will have cheap effects He-man is not from Earth. Like he said make like avatar but He-man version
Sounds like not He-Man lol. So stupid. Another flop for these movie studios.
Keep MOTU in Eternia!

Nope what made it popular is what made it popular when you start changing things you change the essence of the IP.
If they have the original he man theme when he says by the power of gray skull, I'll be happy
It doesn't matter if they're male or female 😂😂😂
There's some things I don't mind when it comes to reviving a property... HOWEVER, if you're going to not respect the source materials by changing what made the property what is was/is... That is the biggest middle finger to the fans who loves the brand.
It reminded me of when Michael Bay wanted to make the Ninja Turtles from another planet and Shredder being a company man lol.
He-Man's mom the queen was from earth...
Yep she was an astronaut. It's possible that Skeletor takes over and his mother hides him away on Earth and the movie is him returning to Eternia.
This movie is going to flop they need the power of AI to make a real legit looking He-Man and the characters this movie cannot take place on planet Earth
Ummmm you have to stick to the lore
Red flag after red flag. Watching Hollywood fail at adapting old ip for modern audiences does have an intrinsic entertainment value of its own though.
Oh my God, they're going with the concept of the Masters of the Universe sequel that never got made, but got dissected and changed up, and ended up becoming the Van Damme classic, Cyborg.
This remind me of a show that Jason sudeikis called son of zorn
I loved that show
@@Twin_Takoyakigreat show. It was ahead of its time.
Shouldn't be on earth at all. Sounds weak.
The odds are is that this is going to suck. Superman mixed with Never Ending Story. Just stick with the mini comics and make small changes.
Oh boy, I’ve got a bad feeling about this
Wasn't prince Adam's mom an astronaut from Earth in the cartoons? Maybe they'll say in this movie that she got pregnant and went back home with her kid?
Finally somebody knows this beside me😂
Sounds like a disaster waiting to happen
Why they can't just adopt the OG story. Every time why
again this is all rumor but if tru....hmmm
If they don’t look at what was done with the 2002 animated show then they are doing all of us fans a disservice.
Oh, no! That sounds horrible.

She Ra is He Man's sister, so they do not need to swap him either. She Ra can just appear.
"I have the PowerPoint!"
I could see a star lord version. He’s influenced by earth, but lives in eternia. It helps make him more relatable.
Bumblebee was more like E.T. AND it was a great film.. but I'm worried.
Well... this is gonna suck
He-man on Earth didn't exactly work in the first movie. We need Lord of the rings meets Star Wars!
If true, what a joke, its not He-Man
Hollywood just can't get out of its own way!😂
This movie is SOOOO freakin Doomed! Same with Voltron.
massive lore change? so it's not going to be he man then. I just hope all of you know they are going to try their best to make this guy into sheman.

Zac Efron exists and they didn't cast him as Prince Adam

And make him an author who created the story if he man and it turns out it’s all real and from his memories as a young child and that’s why he was telling the story. It could work IF done right.
It sounds like they got their characters mixed up. Because the only main hero we don’t see first (as the audience) on Eternia was Adora! Adam’s twin sister (She-Ra) had that storyline which was okay for animation but switching it for the main character on the big screen: I don’t know.
when people talk about miracle made, i always think of the super hero from "the tick": american maid 😀
Should have said cartoon, different versions I don’t think used that plot point.
