Blockbuster used to do this, went 3 times to save my mw2 back in the day. After the second time only multiplayer worked by the end estate would make the game freeze. But it did save it for the most part instead of a unread game at all. But a game like paper Mario tho you can’t fully test I know for fact u would will get unread disc at some point depending on the depth on the scratching as well. Some can’t be saved but then again I never ruined my discs it was my siblings an kids abusing them

Right before COVID hit, there was this little mom and pop game shop called Double Jump Video Games in my hometown of Vancouver, that is where I cleaned up my old Cars 2 DVD, and the guy said, "do you have a DVD player?", the other guy said, "PS2", so he played it into the PlayStation 2 and it worked.

I have a small shelf full of games I should consider sending you for this treatment. They all work fine, but they definitely show their age on the bottom!

And it's nice to know there's GameCube cleaners that will remove the scratches and you guys aren' using toothpaste

This will sound crazy but I have used this on many a game. Rinse off and dry the disk with a soft towel, spread peanut butter on the disk, gently rub off all the peanut butter with something akin to toilet paper. One last gentle rinse and ever so gently dry. Some how the oils in the peanut butter help the consoles read the disks. I have done this on 2 copies of oblivion and Modern Warfare 2 and aoke PS2 games. (Please don't put peanut butter into your console, get it all off the disk)

Now I’ve had disks that are brand new or have one scratch and won’t read. Then I pull out a disk I’ve used a millions times with all the scratches and it reads just fine.
