    I have one of these machines and did a video on it too. They're great, expensive, but great. I got mine used as well.

    • @JeffisWinning
      @JeffisWinning 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @pedrocampos2184 The pads and solution aren't that pricey, I think, like $30. If you ever have to send it in for maintenance like I did, it can get expensive depending on what it needs. Mine needed a new mainboard, disc holder, and 1 or 2 other things.

      You have to put a circle cloth and that fixes the issue

    the data is under the label, DVD's the data is between the 2 plastic layers.

    Cheap disc cleaners were only good for one thing ~ me getting dozens of free/compensated DVD rentals from _Family Video_ because the staff would resurface a disc even with negligible hairline scratches on them. After a few layers were stripped off you could imagine the playback issues from compromised data. I've always taken good care of my things (as one does growing up pinching pennies) and it's just in my nature. Sometimes I'd have to say "please don't".
    It's always boggled my mind how and why people were always abusing their discs. Mine were put back in the cases. Others had them on the floor, on a shelf, anywhere but where they ought to be. I'd look at any disc from anyone and it'd look like the thing was cleaned with a Brillo pad, sandpaper, steel grill brush, and the scour side of dish sponges. Were we the fools for using cotton or microfiber cloths? Some did store discs in CD albums which wasn't as bad. Same could be said about trading card games ~ there are many who protect theirs but even more are neglected and wiped out.

      Thank you for taking care of your disc! And items also wow they really would resurface every disc for minor scratches?

    • @Devious_Reviews
      @Devious_Reviews ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@avenged7foldgamer Yes, sir. There are much better ways to clean them off than having a machine aggressively scraping off bits of polycarbonate. On the other hand there was a time when every store was chock full of those useless Skip Doctors. Ever hear of those? Wet the disc and put in a contraption, spin the handle and... might've made things worse?

    • @GainingDespair
      @GainingDespair ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Resurfacing a disc will not damage it, really no amount of resurfacing will damage it short of resurfacing the disc to the point it's dust.
      Data is not stored inside the plastic, the plastic is there to protect the foil which contains the data. You adhere the foil to the plastic disc, than print the discs label on the back of the foil.
      Scratching causes issues with the disc reader, the scratchs refract the light in multiple directions weaking the beam. This causes the read issues, resurfacing the disc removes the scratches, it doesn't remove any storage media from the disc.

    • @avenged7foldgamer
      @avenged7foldgamer  ปีที่แล้ว

      @GainingDespair
      I have a disc Def jam that no longer reads. Disc looks perfect so the damage is on the top layer? I will definitely look into this potential I can repair a few more damaged disc.

    • @GainingDespair
      @GainingDespair ปีที่แล้ว

      @@avenged7foldgamer There is a few types but they all work about the same. The disc is clear plastic, no data on it, the silver foil is what contains the information.
      Older discs would have the foil on top of the disc, with the label printed over it. The plastic was there to protect the foil since it will be placed face down, however the foil was still capable of being damaged from the surface.
      After awhile they went to a psudo dual disc design, you will have 2 thin disc on the top, and bottom with the foil sandwiched between them. This protects the disc better, no amount of resurfacing will damage the foil as no data is stored on the plastic disc, its all in the foil which the resurface machines will never touch.

    You should never use these machines. In order to remove scratches, these machines physically remove the top layer of the disc. This changes the thickness of the disc. That means the focus depth of the data layer is out of specification.

    • @johanndaart7326
      @johanndaart7326 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If the game didn't work, had light scratches, then works after resurface - where's the problem? Otherwise you can throw it to the bin, now it works. Also specifications have some margins of error.

  • @grimflame6916
    @grimflame6916 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I’d rather use plastic polish if the polish doesn’t work only option is to resurface but you risk the data being destroyed

    • @avenged7foldgamer
      @avenged7foldgamer  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That might work. All this machine really does is polish disc well. If you keep both the disc and polishing equipment stable it would technically do the same job.

    You know I was kind of wondering if I should buy this kind of machine myself selling games as a business and all but like it's not worth it, with the current crash of retro games it will never make back the investment games are just completely worthless. People only ever buy consoles alone and just burn discs or buy everdrives, most of the games I just throw in for free with consoles just to get rid of them if I sell five games total in a single month that's a lot hahaha pretty much one game sells every 50 consoles

    Why, the amount of times I've run across rare or valuable disc that need resurfacing in 30 years of collecting is minimal. Just go to the local retro store and spend 5 bucks to have it resurfaced.
