I always felt throughout my life that nobody truly understood Ezio. He's always called a playboy and charismatic pretty boy out for revenge when, while true on the surface, it has never been the real truth. AC2 is a story of Self Discovery, where a young boy was forced into a life no one should undertake, because he values honor above all. He grows from a young man confused and fueled by emotion, to someone who understands and follows duty. It's astounding how so many people love Ezio (including myself), yet nobody really truly understood him
This is the point of the character. He is difficult to truly understand as a mirror to the fact that he has difficulty understanding himself, with several iterations of his character across the games showing a genuine and believable character arch with marked milestone transitions. They wanted him to be hard to understand and relatable to everyone in some way, depending on where they were in their own journey when they met him. This grants Ezio, as a character, the staying power to remain relevant to everyone over time, as they evolve so too does Ezio in what he means to the individual and even himself. It is as if Ezio is a living character, art come to life.
Same! It makes me so sad when people say he's cool bc he was charming? He was a broken boy who built the most powerful brotherhood we've ever seen, was a genius strategist and financier...saved hundreds of people and all he gets remembered for is his rizz? Disappointing
“When I was a young man, I had liberty, but I did not see it. I had time, but I did not know it. And I had love, but I did not feel it. And for the vast and wonderful world that gave us life, and keeps us guessing. Endless affection, mia Sofia. Forever yours, Ezio Auditore.” This sums it up
I know everyone is sick to death of remakes, but imagine this game with modern computing power and an art touch-up. The term masterpiece is bandied about all over the gaming industry these days to a disgusting degree. This is not that. The Ezio trilogy is an absolute masterpiece in gaming. A true triumph of its time, a story that will be remembered when video gaming is as far from our time as the golden age of Hollywood. Not to mention, it established mechanics that quite literally set the action game standard, with most new titles having some combination of them. This trilogy is a masterpiece several times over.

Long time AC nutjob here. Yes Ezio Trilogy is THE best trilogy in the AC franchise but tbh people now expect everything to be like it or at least like the same vibe it gives. I don't get this, where some people collectively just agree to dislike the most loved or popular thing. I don't spend a lot of time on the internet so someone please explain it doesn't make sense to me
@@IlMemetor72 no I’m not one of Those guys, it’s just that Ezio as whole Doesn’t interest me in the slightest, but I like characters like Edward who are similar, and b4 anyone asks yes i have played the entire trilogy recently to avoid nostalgia back to back and i just can’t find all the appeal of ezio
I feel most of the love for Ezio comes from ppl like myself who played it as young man and now whilst I'm older with my own children who are starting to play these games. I've grown and understand his story arc even more now as I have walked a lot of the same steps (minus all the violence, threats and murder). We appreciate his story arc a little more because many of us have had our own growth in much the same way. But I understand we don't all love the same things. No matter how much love a person or idea can have there will always be ppl who just don't get it. Personally, I never understood the love and obsession ppl have for pink Floyd and the Beatles, I think they're 'meh' at best.
To be fair, I think the whole deal about Ezio is that he was an extremely charismatic and playboy type of character, which works well for a younger audience that played those games back when we were kids. It's the same way with Tony Stark. He is not the most complex, well developed or more interesting main character in the franchise. He speaks well with the audience and that is why he is the most popular. I still prefer Altair, Edward and Connor over him, but I'm still fond of him for being the first AC character I met
@@thiagopina4258 Allow me to explain. Before I do, please understand I'm not invalidating or downplaying your opinion, I love Edward as well, but Ezio and Edward's personalities are all they have in common. If you feel I'm invalidating or knee-jerking you, please tell me and I'll edit or delete my comment, but what I won't do is lie. Without further ado, why do we love Ezio? 1. Not because we hated Altair, (or at least I don't, I adore him personally.) but because it was a far better start off than Altair was. Not to say he was badly written, he just didn't click for us at the time. We got a handsome, charismatic and playboy type of protagonist for a change that we all can relate to, and because it naturally appeals to more people. I myself, despite loving more serious and "boring" characters. What is more interesting is that despite those childish and bad traits, Ezio has others we all aspire and want especially for our own children: Honor, respect, dependence (you can depend on him), love for family and desire to do the right thing. You may ask, "How can he be a brash "brat" and have those trailts? Well because he's a kid, and nobody is perfect, and it makes him more interesting for it. its integral to his growth as a person, those traits evolve, not disappear completely over time 2. Because of the previous points, we're invested in this character, we're given time with him and the people he loves. When they're taken away, we feel the loss too, and we vow just as he does to make the people responsible pay. He is thrust into this path in life because he needs to survive and honor his father's request. It shows that he is willing to adult-up and do what he needs to. He tries his best, and it wasn't enough. The only person who could help him, betrayed him. Case in point, we can sympathise and relate to this young man who just lost his family, and has nowhere to go, and the threat he thought he eradicated is so much bigger than himself. 3. Understanding how big this threat is, he takes it upon himself to take the responsibility that came along with his robes, and trains himself further, putting himself in this battle that he could just run away from. At ANY point, Ezio can run away. But he doesn't. He sees this entire journey through, and to highlight the point I'm making here, "GROWTH", his scene with Vieri sums it up the best - Never let yourself be overcome by your own personal vendettas, for just looking at Vieri, shows you exactly what will happen to him if he does let his human side get the best of him. Ezio learns this, and from then on, ALWAYS shows his victims compassion and respect, the same thing Altair was taught to do all those years ago. Make humble your heart, before you lose it, in turn, what makes you human. Ezio grows from an angry teenager by ALL RIGHTS HE SHOULD BE, to someone who understands compassion for your enemies, they are people too, flawed, just like him. 4. His growth apexes towards the end - after killing all his targets, he feels empty, lost, as if he spent 10 years doing nothing - why? All that killing, hasn't brought his family back. It hasn't sealed that void - he took up duty to kill these people because they NEEDED to die, but it doesn't change anything. Why carry on, why kill anymore why do any of this assassin stuff if it won't give you closure- the next point, is UNDERSTANDING YOUR PLACE in the world. Ezio is a powerful man with more than enough skill to kill, but with no motivation to do these things, what's the point? When he learns of this ancient prophecy or rather, plan of the templars, he is mature enough to understand that all of this shit wasn't personal or to rid the world of bad people, there is a much greater responsibility that is asked of him, again, he can just run away, but he doesn't - he see's it through and sacrifices his personal life to become an assassin, because it fills him with a sense of duty and honor, WELL befitting of his role he led all his life, except now there is a purpose for it. He takes responsibility for his actions and never sees himself as bigger than the world. 5. Everyone keeps saying this but it's never been more untrue - Ezio is not perfect. He makes mistakes, and is always learning. Just as we should. He is a human, I hate to keep saying it, but he is a fantastic person. Not because he is perfect or doesn't make mistakes, but because he does. Not because of idiocy, but character development. He SHOULD kill Rodrigo, but doesn't. In his eyes, Ezio killing him would only mean his revenge would take hold of him, but Ezio is above that, he does not want that to consume him anymore. If I found my father's killer at the edge of my blade, no matter my level of discipline I would not hold back. But Ezio has grown to show mercy and let him go, BECAUSE of all the killing that he has done in his life, it hasn't brought him closure. He lets go of his hatred towards the same MAN (need I reiterate) who also has a purpose in life, and spares him. Let's him ponder and suffer in his own life of misery and despair. Objectively, he should of killed Rodrigo. But he's grown to show mercy, above compassion and respect. 6. Even in Brotherhood, Ezio, a grown and mature man is still learning and perfecting what he has learned over the years. Constant, consistent improvement. He is a true leader, empowering the people he leads, and single-handedely destroying the Borgia army that had opressed Rome. He never one day saw himself above his recruits, yet allowed them to become masters of their arts, even letting them don robes he wears. He shares, he helps, he saves. EVERYONE benefits. Ezio is a man defined by his ability to bring those close to him together, even though the assassins fight not for themselves, they are still human, and fight amongst themselves. It's natural, bound to happen. But Ezio heals those wounds by understanding everyone's perspectives and feelings, and coming to a conclusion eveyone can agree with, in turning, bringing unity and love between people who aren't even family and are different to one another. 7. I'll give a final point here because I don't want to take up more of your time, I already suck at writing and talking as you can tell, so I want to respect it as much as possible whilst still trying to make you understand: Ezio never backs down on his beliefs, he never double crosses anyone or plays both sides, he always sticks to what's right even if it's not the best decision. He never betrays his ideals from the moment he adopted them to the day he closed his eyes on that bench in 1520. He hasn't changed as a person, he's an evolved man from the young boy we were introduced to in 2009. We saw him from birth to death, and never in between those moments does he betray himself or his own morals and ideals, even when the Creed itself became impossible to continue in Revelations. He has earned his rest and departure, it ain't always above dogma and creeds and whatnot - what really matters is who you are. A long journey of self-discovery is what Ezio undertook, and he ended that journey, mastering it. So that's why. Or at least, that's how I always felt from day one. Much less then, because I was a kid, but I grew up myself and learned different stories and ways of writing, and I will always feel this way even when hundreds of people come at me now saying I'm just a dickrider of a poster boy character. I've never seen it like that, because I love literature and character writing. All of that, and what I said above is why I will adore and admire and look up to Ezio Auditore my entire life, from the moment I laid eyes on him, till the day I close mine. Thank you for reading if you got this far, even if you don't agree with me I am more than happy you gave me a chance. Take care

Take care
Is that an AI generated Ezio on the thumbnail? 😂
