Here's a question idea. Why did the Wizengamot let Dumbledore decide Harry's placement after the Potters died. And bonus question...why didn't any of them check on the boy's safety?
What if they used the omnioculars? They can look into the past without interacting with it like a recording or video but does so by letting you actually look into the past. Also they have slow motion abilities to slow the passage of time for the observer. It may be possible to force the time dilation and tunneling effects simultaneously which would theoretically allow the user to look at any point in time so long as they can meet the power requirements but as we know from cannon even powerful time magic has major limits so it's safe to assume the amount of time one could see into the future with this method would far less than as it would require the power source to energize both operations simulatiously
i think instead of the twins intercepting Percy's time turner, Arthur had one. If Percy went to return his, and it's missing, there would be an investigation into it. However, if Arthur had one for any reason, it would be easy to swipe without anyone's knowing. If Arthur doesn't know where it went, then he could easily assume that he either returned it (if it was gone for an extended period of time), or that he simply misplaced it and will find it later. But, Arthur's also a part of the MOM, so, him getting access to one wouldn't be that hard. He could either be given one for his job (maybe he has to use it occasionally to find missing magical items among the muggles), or, he managed to get the paperwork done to get one, or, even just managed to swipe one for himself, and either forged documents for it, or took it at an opportune time (not sure if he's the type to steal a time turner however). In which case, if he loses it, he can't report it as missing to the ministry as they'd have to have 2 investigations, 1 into him having stolen one, and one into the secondary theft. But, I do think that Arthur had one (probably legitimately), and that the twins swiped it at some point and then used it. It's likely that Arthur keeps it locked up somewhere where his kids (theoretically) can't get to it, and only pulls it out when he needs to go to work, and the twins happened to have found it at some point, and use it occasionally, with this event being one of those use cases.
I think the coolest thing about this theory is that it's possible that only one twin would have to use the time turner. They could simply have planned for George to go hide and then have Fred and Future Fred walking around together and making the bet.
That would be hilarious, since it's shown that even their own parents struggle to tell them apart. This makes the theory so much more believable and funnier.
Excellent! And it's even easier than that: Much simpler to just hide somewhere during the match (say, just outside the stadium), and then just use the time turner once to go back to make the bet and attend the match. They don't say anything so as not to give away the fact that they already know the outcome. If they don't want to violate the "5-hour limit" they can go back in two hops. And yes, it would still work if even just one of them did it.
One easy alternative to "can time turners go into the future?" is that Fred and George never traveled to the future. Instead, they went to the game with this plan already in mind. They make sure to stand off somewhere on their own and find their future selves. The future Fred and George tell past Fred and George how the game will go. Past Fred and George make the bet and watch the game. Past Fred and George then use the time turner to go back in time to tell themselves how the game went as future Fred and George step in to take their normal place in the timeline and the loop continues (just like it worked in book 3). No need to fiddle with how the time turners work when this theory works perfectly well with what we've already seen them do.
Even the information exchange is unnecessary. If I were they I would have done the following: 1) Right after the arrival at the place separate from the group and hide somewhere to the end of the game. Till the outcome is known to everyone. Suppose 6:00 pm in the forest. 2) Timetravel back to the morning, join to your gang, place the bet and live normally. 3) When the time is 5:59 pm go back to the forest, see how your past copies return to the morning and go with your evening as usual. Only one timetravel and no self-interactions.
That would also explain why they're silent during the match. Probably sitting with razor sharp concentration looking at the match, waiting for what will happen
i would love to see how you explain two items from Chamber 1. How did dobby actually stop the letters from being delivered to harry? Did dobby just hangout at 4 privet drive 24 hours a day and steal the letters from the owl? How could he do this and serve the malfoys? 2. Why are the Flesh Eating Slugs ruining all the cabbages? Call me crazy, but i assume a flesh eating slug would eat flesh.
About 2. - How sure are we it's the slugs that are flesh-eating, and not the repellant? Like, "flesh-eating slug repellant" might also mean it's a flesh-eating repellant against regular slugs? At least that's what I always interpreted into it
@@Tytolus I feel like if it a "repellent" eats flesh, then it's not right to advertise it as a repellent because it only eats flesh, it won't stop the slugs from coming
I love the idea of Dobby just being like. Okay this is when the owls leave to deliver mail. Then he teleports to privet drive, wrestles the letter from Hedwig and returns to the Malfoys before they notice he's gone.
1: Elf magic is different from human magic. Dobby can Apparate to places which would be inaccessible to humans, like Hogwarts or Malfoy manor. He also has the power to lok certain "gateways", like the one that leads to Platform 9 3/4. That's my theory. The "ancient love magic" spell Dumbledore used to protect Harry at Privet Drive only locks humans out. Probably it blocks AApparition in the house, as everyone either arrives there through the door or the fireplace. Dobby can exploit the loophole. Locks the barrier around the house so that owls can't pass. They get confused, circle around, then Dobby Apparates there once a day, steals the letters, then goes back to serve the Malfoys. The owls never reach Harry, and it's mentioned no owl ever came that summer. 2: I always thought Hagrid lied.
Flesh-eating slugs could be omnivores. Many animals eat both plants and meat. Normal slugs don't eat human flesh, though. So, a slug that does so in addition to the more typical slug diet would be notable enough that it would be named by that oddity.
What if idea: What if Ron ended up with Snape's potions textbook instead of Harry, thereby winning the Felix Felicis? How does Harry still get Slughorn's memory? Does Ron use Sectumsempra? (Of course there's always the chance Ron just gives it to him still, but I'd love to see what you guys would do with this idea.)
Harry actually did offer to let both Ron and Hermione use the textbook, but Hermione insisted on using the "official" version, and Ron had trouble reading Snape's handwriting. If Harry didn't have the textbook from the start, then Hermione would've won the Felix Felicis, and I'm sure she'd be fine with lending Harry some to get the memory. Like you said, with Harry's intrigue of the textbook, Ron probably would just give it to him anyways.
@@brickbot2.038 I don't think that Hermione would have won Felix Felicis because it would have been given to the student who can make a perfect death potion. Hermione did not make a perfect death potion so noone would have gotten it. Slughorn himself said that only one student ever won that price, so it is clear that it is only given to someone who brews it perfectly, not to the one who is the best
Right. Like, J keeps saying how the bet made no sense, except it obviously did, because it's exactly what happened. Therefore it's not at all out of the realm of possibility that Fred and George would have studied the Ireland and Bulgaria teams and their main players thoroughly beforehand, expecting to make extra cash with bets. I mean, who goes around carrying their entire life savings with them? They clearly were already planning on doing some betting (which, in a big event like this, is pretty much a guarantee is gonna happen), I'm sure they studied the possibilities really well and knew it probably mattered more to Krum to catch the snitch than to win.
Yes, there are plenty of real world examples of bets like that, even ones more detailed. Like not only who wins, but how many points each player scores, which sections of the game the points are scored, or even as to how much time passes before the game has been won. And even more outlandish sounding bets out there.
@Gabi. I have friends that are really into baseball, others basketball, and they make predictions that seem like magic to me but then they explain their reasoning and it makes sense.
Alternately they could've gone back in time, told themselves the outcome and waited in the tent and just switched out upon returning to the camp. The quietness could be because since they had directly interacted with their past selves they wanted to ensure there was minimal risk of accidentally altering events.
@@OneOfDisease Or they just meet with the other twin, so future George meets with past Fred and future Fred meets with past George. Alternatively, I am sure they could just send a message to each other...
if they were planning this all along all they had to do is make sure that they (or at least one of them) are not around ludo the first time he is taking bets, go watch the game quietly so that they are not the center of attention for once and when the game is finished immediately slip somewhere unseen and travel back in time. then they go to ludo (only the one not present in case they had the other one trail ludo to know where he will have been in the past) and make the bet. the future twins then go ahead and spend the rest of the day in hiding only to be exactly where they used the timeturner to travel back and "be in normal time again". them returning can be the exact moment where they are described in the story again and their smug grin is because they just spent the entire day knowing that they will win the bet.
If this theory is correct and making the assumption you cannot go forward, Fred and George slip away from the main cast and catch the game somewhere else or miss it entirely and wait for the result. Then they go back in time, and it's future Fred and George with the main cast, making the bet, and watching the game. This is why they're unnaturally quiet. When you already know the outcome, it's hard to get excited.
@@riffbwexcept I don't think they were unnaturally quiet. If one was using a means to go back in time to do something shady, they'd have to know to fake things as well. Since Fred and George are known for being loud, somebody would've noticed if they weren't being their usual selves and would've called them out in it; most likely Arthur or Ginny as they are most observant.
I always assumed that the time turner Hermione used for classes (and therefore Percy's as well, if he had one) didn't belong to her. She was just borrowing it from the Ministry. Once she was done with school, she would have to return it. I can't imagine the Ministry would just let people keep time turners after they've finished with whatever they authorized them for. So you'd think, if Fred and George stole Percy's time turner, he'd be in a heap of trouble with the Ministry.
Hermione gave her time turner back to mcgonnagal so percy would probably have done the same,so the twins could have stole it during the end of the year feast frok mcgonnagal's office
Fred and George are excellent at Transfiguration, I wouldn't put it past them making an exact duplicate from something and it's that that Percy unwittingly returns (he wouldn't know anyone else should know about it and the Ministry has him noted as verified trustworthy to be responsible). I don't see them testing all equipment being returned (they've not exactly got a great track record or efficiency or security).
Of course the time turners don’t belong to the students, they were just loaned to them temporarily. And Fred & George weren’t planning to keep the time turner forever, just to use it once and then put it back before anyone ever noticed
@@SF64I have something better. The twins didn't transfigure anything. They used the same duplication spell that Hermione uses to duplicate the locket around Umbridge's neck in Deathly Hallows. However, the only problem with this whole theory is, how did they put the time turner back? Because as tempting as it might have been, Fred and George didn't keep the time turner, because that opens up a whole can of plot holes for the next 3 books. Including Fred seeing his death.
me watching scb videos: 1. denial. “naaah no way” - when seeing the thumbnail and title 2. completely immersed in the theory. “I bet they stole Percy’s time turner” - midway through forgetting that that wasn’t in the books to begin with until you mentioned it and realizing how deeply scb theories are already ingrained in my mind 3. acceptance. “this is exactly what happened” - end
Just a quick clarification, even if you can only go back 5h with the time turner, you can daisy chain information way further back. For example: At midnight, they see the outcome of the match, they then travel back to 7pm and meet themselves to tell themselves the result of the game. The twins from 7pm can then travel back to 2pm being replaced by their midnight selves. Using this method, they can send information as far back as they want, as long as they agree to always relay the message they receive from their future selves when they see them appear.
@Casey Campbell I think that's specifically for if your past self wouldn't understand what was happening. If you planned to meet you future self at a certain time, for example, I don't think it would cause any problems to your mind
@@gamingimpossibl Hermione told Harry what could happen when Harry wanted to storm into Hagrid's hut to get Pettigrew. Some wizards had killed their future or past selves due to the confusion or worse happened.
@@CaseyCampbell17 the entire thing si also possible with no direct interaction as well: you know you (future) are going to deposit a message under this brick at 5pm so you go there at 17:05 to pick it up and immediately timeturner again to another preknown point in time at the same stone. repeating this as far back as you want. all the most future you has to do is remember to place the message. the laborious part is the one for the most past you because it has to do this for every hop of the message
I might missremember, but wasn‘t Charlie a seeker? If Bill and Percy are good chasers we know what Molly and Arthur tried. They wanted to make the best Quidditch team! (There‘s a saying in Germany :“ How many kids do you want?“ „A whole soccer team!“)
That would definitely explain why despite how poor they were the kids still had broom sticks and a makeshift quidditch pitch in their yard. That way the only thing they could do for fun was practice quidditch the moment they learn how to fly and they'd be practicing with crappy equipment. Like, if they can become great players with their crappy equipment imagine how well they'll do when they use proper equipment. 😂
Ginny is an excellent seaker and chaser. It is clear most if not all the family is very enthusiastic about Quidditch, it wouldn't be beyond Fred and George to have looked into the comparative skills and mentally of all the participating players and determined there's a good chance Ireland are unlikely to be beaten on scoring but that Victor would rather end the game before they got so far ahead that Bulgaria would lose by an embarrassing amount. They have the attitude of go big or go home and knew even if they lost they'd be competent enough to earn back their loses with some hard work (they might not test well but they're clearly driven to achieve goals they care about)
I thought they betted that because that was literally a very likely outcome. Ireland had a better team, but Victor would totally get the snitch regardless.
Yeah, it's odd to me that Bagman laughed the bet off as silly and gave them such high odds. Every character seemed to acknowledge that Bulgaria had the best seeker in the world, but everything else was in favour of Ireland. "Krum's one good player. Ireland's got seven."
It's the issue of Krum grabbing the snitch when there was a 160 point difference losing Bulgaria the game by only 10 points, literally 1 goal. It's very unlikely that his team would allow that to happen with such a small gap that they need to make up. Unless Krum just had high hopes that while he's chasing the snitch his team would make 2 more goals. Honestly I have no idea though. Since it doesn't really say how quickly Ireland was scoring, you'd think Krum would be able to grab the snitch before Ireland had a 160 point lead.
Sounds great, except she sleeps in a room with a bunch of other students that aren't supposed to know about the time turner (and she isn't supposed to let her past self see her, so it isn't like she could crawl into bed with herself, even if the others wouldn't notice). So, she would have to sleep in some random hiding place and just hope nobody found her. It's probably more of a difficulty than it's worth.
@@SgtSupaman if you wanted to do it all in one sleep phase you could stay in bed while the rest of your friends get dressed and go down to breakfast, tell them you’re coming down in a minute, then just sleep for another couple of hours, time-turn back for breakfast later
@@SgtSupaman I always interpreted the "don't let your past self see you" rule as only applying to Harry since his past self did not know about the time turner. Hermione wouldn't have freaked out seeing herself.
Honestly I feel the timeline would be easier if they went into the past and not the future. The twins arrive at the campsite, and when Ludo appears and starts taking bets they know they want to place a bet, so they step away secretly and wait. They plan that they'll come back to this time later and bet on the game so they give some time for their future selves to do the deed. They then rejoin after the bet would have been placed and they continue as normal until the end of the game where they secretly slip away for a moment to go back in time, they place the bet, and then they just hide nearby but not in sight until the end of the game where they go to get their winnings. Still it's a pretty Ludocrous theory :)
Good job, I think that works a little better. Still don't love time travel as a solution (maybe Divination works too?), but this one fits the book's rules and matches the characters
The only problem with that is the act of planning to time travel doesn't seem to initiate time travel, even if you have the time turner. Despite events happening in Prisoner as normal, Hermione had to be told to go back. Fred and George can't play the Time Game like Bill and Ted (of Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure fame) can. Really, all Future Fred and/or Future George need to do is make the bet, then they can hang back while their present selves are watching. Present Fred and George are scrambling over to Bagman because they know the moment the game ended, regardless of the outcome, they made a good bet.
@@MagusAgrippa8 I'm not sure where you got that argument from. They had to be told to go back because the thought never occurred to them, not because they have to be told to go back to initiate the events happening... I'm really not sure where your logic comes from. The fact that before Harry and Hermione go back in time the events they would do back in time were already occurring shows definitively that even if the traveling occurs later on the events you do back in time already happen in the present, it doesn't matter how the time traveling was initiated later... I seriously do not get your logic because it simply doesn't line up with events. The rules of Time travel as defined in Harry potter lore are pretty simple. If you go back in time, the events which you do back in time have already occurred, if you are going to travel back in time sometime in the future, the events you do back in time will already be occurring in the present. It's as simple as that, end of statement. It's not the fact that going back in time limits what you can do based on what has already occurred, it's that your choices you make while in the past have always happened that way. Seriously explain how on earth Hermione and Harry being told to go back in time has literally anything to do with the events that took place while back in time or before. Nowhere did I suggest that planning to time travel initiates it. I meant that Fred and George would plan to come back to this point in time when they travel back later, the initiation of time travel occurs when they use the time turner later, but because they planned on doing so earlier they know they don't have to worry about running into themselves as they already made sure they'd be out of the way. This isn't particularly complicated and I don't get what anything you said has to do with it...
i dont love the forward timetravel, but i do like this idea in general. It'd just not be too difficult to make it work with the rules as we know them already without getting dangerously close to cursed child weirdness... fred and george see luda, decide, hey tonight let's use the time turned, sneak off, knowing that their future selfs should arrive as they're leaving. and from there everything would make sense.
yeah thats what i thought, literally follows exactly what the trio did to save buckbeak. see ludo betting and hide away knowing they will travel back after the game and find him and know exactly what to bet. no future travel needed.
I agree. There isn’t much of a reason to travel to the future. They could just stay out of the way the first time around, catch the final score, and then spend the second time around with their family.
I love it! I read the GOF over 10 times now and I never noticed that. This is why HP is such a great story, you always discover new POV even after multiple readings.
I'm thinking Fred and George had prepared for the moment by making something that looked like the time turner. They weren't going to test it when they got it back. So, after Percy stopped needing it for classes, Fred and George made the switch, Percy turned in the fake, and no one knew the real one was missing.
I’d assume they put it back where Percy kept it after they used it. He wasn’t checking on its safety in the summer. Or he was but they put a fake one in its place for a while. Percy wouldn’t be using it in the summer so he wouldn’t know it’s fake.
To be honest considering most Ministry employees can't figure out to use a simple catch-all reversal spell like "finite incantartum" to stop a rain spell and can't produce even a basic protection spell to literally save their lives. I really don't think they'd be that attentive of equipment checks especially when there's paperwork verifying the lendee as being reliable and trustworthy.
I remember the "Percy has a time turner" video was the first SCB vid i ever watched. It was so convincing, i subbed and have been a dedicated fan ever since. ❤❤
Two things I did not expect when I woke up today: another way to delve deeper into Ludo Bagman trivia and of course a great potato voice by J. Both are appreciated and enjoyed!
The twins knew they would have to make an outrageous bet to win big. They didnt need time turners they just needed to know how likely it was that Viktor wouldnt want to lose largely against Ireland.
I mean they gave the map to Harry around Christmas. So they could have known about Hermione but considering that Percy was already doing it. They knew that she was doing the same thing too.
Maybe they actually excel at Divination. Trelawney did point out that Ron had a good inner eye. It's an inherited skill and it's plausible that they actually saw the end of the match. Twins have had the stigma that they are psychic to a degree so would make sense that they had 'the gift'
Time Turner wouldn't have put them in the spot they traveled from, just at a different time. That is the way the movie has them work. The book puts Hermione and Harry in the Entrance Hall when they traveled back in time from the Hospital Wing (10 meters from where their past selves were hiding before going to Hagrid's).
0:13 "they thought we couldn't come up with more Ludo Bagman content... They were wrong!"... somewhere, a certain Pottermore quiz master agrees with you 😆
2:35 If I had a galleon for every time the SCB didn't realize a word or concept was something that's an everyday part of British culture, I could make my own massive bet on the WC.
I'm pretty sure it went like this if it's true: In camp where they set up the tent they find a note from themselves or run into their others when separated (Future Fred talks to Present George, and Future George to Present Fred). Then the Future pair that came back just go somewhere else to hide until the time when they swap back. Present Fred and George confer and then make the Bet. They watch the game, get their winnings, and then after they are out of the arena and heading back to camp they go back in time. The older Fred and George step out of their hiding spot and go back to camp with no one being wise to what they did. The reason that I think a note with secret magic passwords would be the route that they go is: if they stole the Time Turner then they would want to play around with it, what better and safer way then to make a secret way to pass notes between Future to Past without interacting directly? Past Self gets a note about which pastry to add spice to get Percy after Future sees which one he eats and etc.
I'm glad this ended up being about them initially traveling to the future instead of the past because I was really scratching my head to figure out how that one would have worked lol.
If they planned the whole thing ahead of time, then they could have waited somewhere out of the way for their evening selves to come back in time and tell them who wins. I think that would be possible at least, Harry Potter time travel theory hurts my brain 😂
One thing that always got me about the Time Turners was that it is said you'd go mad if you saw yourself because you couldn't accept who you saw was you. Do identical twins have that problem? They constantly see someone who is identical to them in voice and looks so if you did approach your past self it wouldn't immediately click what you are seeing is you, just your twin.
Cool theory, but regarding Krum's decision to catch the snitch. Think of it as a way to save the Bulgarian team's image. A loss of 160-170 looks a lot better in papers than a loss of something like 3500-200. The Irish were dominating the match and Krum understood that it would look better for his team if the gap was small. If he let the game go on for a long time and they lost with a huge gap, many people would ridicule them potentially. This way they may have lost but at least they got the snitch and the match was close, not a complete curbstomp. It's even possible that was the strategy of the Bulgarian team going in. Catch the snitch as fast as you can, even if it means they lose.
I have a suspicion that Bagman paid in leprechaun gold because he suspected they cheated in order to make that very specific bet. People who take bets dont usually take kindly to hyper specific bets panning out. Something like that is always going to be suspected as falsely won. And in the world of magic, I'd have to imagine Bagman would have expected something like this very thing MIGHT take place and been watching for big bets with specifics.
One part I think was missed that doesnt add up. Exactly when did they steal the time turner, and how did they avoid suspicion? The time turners were presumably logged out of the ministry when they were issued to Percy/Hermione. And with the use of a time turner requiring special approval from someone such as McGonnagal, we can also assume that the ministry knows who has them and knows when they can expect them to be returned. Percy finished year 7 at Hogwarts before the World Cup took place. An object so carefully regulated would not likely be something that a student, even Percy, could be trusted to take home at the end of the year. It’s reasonable to assume that the ministry would require Percy leave the time turner with McGonnagal before taking the train back to King’s Cross. If Fred and George had managed to take it at all, they would have taken it from Percy beofre the train ride, so he could not hand it in. McGonnagal would notice it was missing and have reproted it to the ministry. Granted, all of that could happen off page, but for Percy to keep secure his ministry job immediately after misplacing a heavily regulated magical object does seem highly unlikely, no matter how many good grades he got. The only possible way out of this is if McGonnagal managed to cover for Percy to give him time to find the time turner. McGonngal may have done so to protect Percy’s job, but the weeks it would take for the time turner to be returned would raise some eyebrows.
You guys are generally spot on, but this one is a really bad theory. Explanation : Seaker can at max get 150 points. Fred and George realised that if the game goes long enough for Ireland to get 15 + goals over Bulgaria then Krum can’t do much about it. Krum is a better seaker so overtime he will most likely have to catch the snitch or the opponent will do it and Bulgaria will loose with even more point difference. It was a very simple bet Krum is a much better seaker and Ireland is a much better team. Still keep making theories, they are fun to watch 😊
George would go back to the cafe at the beginning of DH 7 and kill Dolohov. He blew up the wall that killed Fred. I always kind of believed his death was a quite a bit on Harry. He didn’t kill Dolohov which made it so he could be in the final battle.
I feel like with F&G planning to do this, the timeturner would do just fine the normal way. It would just have them coordinating with their doubles but, I feel like that is something they would do.
I don't like the travel forwards part. But this theory works the same with the established backwards travel. They go up to their box, lag behind and purposely get lost in the crowd. They then watch to see who wins, return and go behind the others right as they go up the stairs. Since it's a full crowd it can't be hard to disappear and re appear without too many people noticing
Love the theory! I always wondered why Fred and George had made the bet that they did as it was absolutely horrible. This theory definitely provided a plausible explanation as to why they made that bet. Also, it would explain why they were so quiet in the top box. Fun fact: I actually new that "to skive" meant to avoid school/slack off because I have been reading the Harry Potter series in French. The translation for "skiving snackboxes" is "boîte à flemme," and "flemme" essentially means to slack off.
I think it's much more likely they were just passionate about Quidditch and took a risk and made a well informed bet (Occam's razor and all that), but I always enjoy watching your theories and this was no exception! :D
I think they could also have done it by going back in time. If it was the future twins that made the bet while the normal time ones were hiding. The future twins would just need to excuse themselves after the bet to swap places and return after the match. They are really creative and could probably make it work.
This is peak SCB theory! So impressed you guys keep coming up with this after all these years. A triumphant return to form after getting pretty darn good at the “what if…” videos (which are also very impressive!). Thank you!!! Keep it coming!!!!
I'm still wondering why they changed the rules for the third challenge in the tri-wizard cup. At the beginning Dumbledore says "three tasks and the one with the most points at the end of the third, wins" but obviously that isn't what happened in the end. It had nothing to do with points, just whomever finished the maze first
I'm pretty sure that the rules didn't change. Because Harry and Cedric were tied for first and they both grabbed the cup at the same time. Thus they both won, but since Cedric gets killed, Harry wins. That's why he was ready to throw his winnings into the lake before giving them to Fred and George, because he knows the only reason he won was because his classmate died. Knowing Harry he would have given the win to Cedric despite them being tied. Since he was never supposed to compete to begin with. Granted it's been a while since I read the book so I don't remember if Dumbledore said that "whoever gets it wins the tournament." specifically.
@Green I realized this yesterday as I'm listening through again, I'll have to wait a few chapters to find the third task, but certainly the announcement of the rules don't match the actual ending
Dumbledore says, whoever touches the cup first will get maximum points. Not sure how the other contestants would be scored, but in the case of Harry and Cedric, it would mean a certain victory. As it did.
@@leventebardossy5962 I am saying that it is described completely differently from October when the rules of the goblet are announced to april(?) When they describe how the third task works.
I also always wondered how come they got it right, but never thought of time turner, instead was thinking that maybe Fred and George would try to get into divination and seeing just a glimpse of future, like a headline of daily prophet, would be enough to win the bet.
As soon as I saw the title I knew I had to watch because I knew the video would be good and talking about my home country winning the quidditch World Cup.
I feel like Fred and George would have taken Percy’s time-turner, but as a means to play pranks on him. I think they would have eventually given it back, since Percy would have likely gotten in a ridiculous amount of trouble for losing it, and they definitely would have been suspected, because that would be McGonagall’s first thought when it turned up missing.
I don't think this happens exactly like you detail here. The twins wouldn't have know how long the match was going to take beforehand, and besides I would have thought that when you travel to the future, present you disappears and you reappear when the time travelling you appears. In fact the more I think about it I think you can't travel to the future with a time turner. I like this theory though
What if they just duck out & hide when they see Ludo, go back after the match ends and place a bet with Ludo after they'd ducked out? They'd have all the context of conversation, have never met themselves, and only use the simple mode of the thing turner.
Let's say that every Weasley boy has great potential for one Quidditch position, there are six of them, and they have one sister, logically, she has enough reason to be good at all of them
I started watching this 10 minutes after it was posted. My friend asked me to go skateboarding with him. Ended up in the ER with a dislocated shoulder and ripped up cloths and other injuries. Finally got home this morning, still in agonizing pain. Now it’s time to finish what I started.
Before watching whole thing... The Weasley's have an ancestor who was a Seer and that gift has been given to the boys For example: (Chamber of Secrets, Ron while looking at the award Tom Riddle got) 'Maybe he killed myrtle that would make everyone happy.'
A much simpler explanation would be that they knew enough about Krum to figure out it'd be the sort of stunt he'd pull. The entire Ireland team is better than his own, except for the seeker, and there's nothing he can really do until the snitch shows up. Yeah, he can do something like the Wronsky Feint, but that's really only going to affect the other seeker, not the rest of the Ireland team. He's bound to see his team losing score after score. Krum knows the game is lost before it even starts. All he really can do is catch the snitch as early as possible as to give his own team some mercy points, and his pride is certainly not going to let the other seeker catch it. And if the twins are fans they can figure this out too. They know Ireland will win, but they know the Ireland seeker has no chance against Krum. But the snitch has to be caught for the game to end, so Krum will have to catch it. It really is simple math.
Still works if time turner does only go backwards. They know to hide around the time of the bet, wait until the game, watch it in silence as they are waiting to go back in time once over to make the bet they his from earlier; Krum gets the snitch, they go back in time, make the bet with Ludo, and interact with everyone like it's all normal up until the game where they dip out and hide while past them watches the game. They sneak up to the top box, knowing how long it'll take to get up there and for the game to take, so that they can get there just after they go back in time to meet Ludo for their winnings. This theory works both way, and I think it's for sure how the boys did it
Nah, this one was a little too convaluted for me. First of all, the ministry would totally freak out if a time turner was just missing, they’d probably accuse Percy of stealing it. Also I really don’t think the bet was that insane. Krum was a better Seeker than Ireland’s Seeker and Ireland was just a better team than Bulgaria.
"Wait!" Cried Liz. "Fred and George stole Percy's time turner, but I doubt they were going to turn it in after they were done with it- does that mean that it wasn't with all the other time turners when they were destroyed, making theirs the last one?"
Fred and george could have hid away from their family and watched the cup from lomewhere else and the travelled to the past to place the bet and watch the match normally this way you don't have to rely on the chance of the timeturner being able to travel to the future.

Also many people have reported lack of quality therapist.
They woulnd't have let Percy graduate and take the time turner with him, I'm sure they took the time turner as soon as he stepped out of his last NEWT exam. I think it was the kind of outcome you would expect from a game like that, and they are reckless enough to do it with all their savings.
There is one glaring problem with this. If Percy had a time turned for school, he would have had to hand it back at the end of his schooling. So he would have handed it back 3 months prior to this. He finished school in June and this was the end of August. If you recall McGonagall had to write a bunch of letters for Hermione and swear she would only use it for school. I’m pretty sure this is a loaner program for exceptional students. I don’t believe it is something they get to keep.
My thought is that they used it once, then put it back when they got home so its disappearance wouldn’t be noticed. Or alternatively, as I saw another commenter saying, they could have transfigured an object to look like a time turner and just Indian Jonesed it, in which case Percy would have turned a fake time turner back in. Personally, I like the former theory better, because Percy being an accomplished wizard himself, would have likely realized it was fake, but it is possible
If that was the case, then why didn't they go back in time to stop themselves from making that bet, after realizing that ludo wasn't going to pay them?
Yall might just be stuck because of contracts which I understand but I wouod stip doing better help adds as they have apparently been really loose with parient information let us say
I have been waiting for this theory, though I just put it down to Fred and George having such a passion for quidditch that they studied both teams, looked over past results and made an informed guess (though this still doesn't quite account for the specificity of thier bet). Also is it just me or has there been a long streak of J content? Don't get me wrong, J is fantastic, I just thought this channel was called "super Carlin brothers"
This could go even further: Maybe they never had the money to begin with? Since what you did “always happened” (as illustrated in the movies when Harry gets hit with the stone in Hagrid’s hut the first time round). The future selves could watch the match and then claim that money from Ludo (however much he had on him, which is the money they originally gave him for the bet). They then give it to their other selves who are about to go back in time and they then bet that money with Ludo. This would mean anything they got from Ludo was essentially free and so they got the last laugh. I think this explains how they had all that money to begin with, I’m not sure the value of Wizard money but they had more than 34 TIMES what their parents have (which itself bought 4 kids books, robes etc.), we never get any inclination that they’re saving money as they always run off to Jonko’s to buy fireworks (which can’t be cheap). They also were right at the fledglings of WWW, they had spent the whole summer developing and only had had one order form which Molly tore up.
Going into the future seems less likely than planning ahead. PLan a time to go away right before they wanna make the bet, then watch the game away from everyone else/just do something til we find out what happened, go back to that same point they went off to and then place the bet, knowing what's gonna happen. Watch the game again in the box, and then it doesn't matter if they're at the same spot rhet were before, as they were intended to be with the group the whole time. It's the same thing, but following the rules of the time turner going backwards. Planning ahead to swap themselves with their future selves and then go back at the same time.
This is super easy, just leave to go to the bathroom or something, go lay low until the match is done. Find out the result. Go back in time, come back from the bathroom. They don’t need to watch the match the first time, should be pretty obvious who won judging from the crowd , or just ask someone. Or read it in the news. Whatever. (This is assuming that they would have to stamp their ticket or something to get in).
I'd accept it if that was cannonical, but i always just thought it was a clever analysis of the skills and shortcomings of the matchup. The beet could have been the result of simply observing the teams and gauging their strengths/weaknesses against each other: 1) Krum being a seeker that's 10-20x better than the irish's seeker means krum will likely catch the snitch....EVEN if it means the team loses, as that's likely a more common occurance as people think. 2) We're told Irish has 7 excellent players and the bulgarian's only great player is Krum. Meaning the Irish will score like mad. facts 1 and 2 mean the match can only end in 1 of 3 ways: either Krum catches the snitch QUICKLY, ending the match before irish can score a 15 point lead (unlikely), Irish's seeker beats krum to the snitch (unlikely), or Krum catches the snitch while Bulgaria is so far behind they can't win, so Krum decides to end the match his own way (most likely)

This theory also helps explain why Fred and George just happened to bring their life savings to the world cup. Sort of a strange thing to do unless you already knew you were going to place a large wager.
Nice vid....but a few points i think may have been overlooked:- 1) No proof Percy needed a time turner - It is equally possible that he did his last 2 subjects after class hours, similar to harry doing occlumency under the cover of 'remedial potions'. As a known good student other teachers may have agreed to teach him after hours at the request of Dumbledore or McGonagall. 2) Stealing the time-turner on the school break - Hermione was given the time-turner by McGonagall who had to apply to the ministry of magic for permission. It seems highly unlikely Percy would of still had it after finishing school and that McGonagall would of noticed that he had not returned it to her so she could return it to the ministry. 3) Knowing what to bet - Avid sports fans quite often deduce things like first goal/try scorer, game winners, mvp etc. It is highly likely that the twins were extremely confident of the outcome of the match without time travel and were known to be willing to gamble and take risks. 4) Betting it all - The twins were already making money and their products were starting to sell well, allowing them to have this gold in the first place. It would seems likely to me that they figured if they won they would advance their plans for the shop however, if they lost, they could recoup the lost funds within the next year and have only delayed their plans with no other real harm done. Seems a risk worth taking. 5) Breaking into the ministry - If they had managed to break into the MoM to steal a time-turner they would of had to get into the department of mysteries. Something that even the death eaters working together struggled to be able to do. I know you stated that Harry and his friends got in but that was after the death eaters had managed it and had most likely removed several key defences either by necessity of getting in or to ensure Harry made it there to fulfill their plans. So admittedly having a time-turner would of hedged the bet nicely, i just cant see how they could of had it or that they would of needed it to have the confidence to make the bet.
You guys never cease to entertain. America is falling apart, but we can come here to get away from it all and enjoy some good HP content. Keep doing great things! #bringbackFred
Which is likely a reason why they are heavily regulated by the MoM. Only top tier students are allowed to have one, AND probably sign off something (declaration of honor) to say that they only use it in school work. Problem is that if this is true, Hermione has better methods to ensure compliance than the MoM which is hilarious. (the whole curse on the DA parchment)
I was gonna say maybe Bulgaria was all Seeker and Ireland was all Chasers. We actually see in that game (book obviously) that Bulgaria's Chasers were so uncoordinated compared to Ireland, which as an Irish myself, hats off to my team!

Betterhelp Contreversy
@@plotholedetective4166 that’s what I was gonna say!
I think the coolest thing about this theory is that it's possible that only one twin would have to use the time turner. They could simply have planned for George to go hide and then have Fred and Future Fred walking around together and making the bet.
Yeah, no one would be able to tell the difference between the twins
That would be hilarious, since it's shown that even their own parents struggle to tell them apart. This makes the theory so much more believable and funnier.
I'm surprised no one caught this while making this video. I really hope they address this later, lol.
Wait I like this interpretation better
Yea, there are plenty of ways to make this work with them just using it to go back in time.
Even the information exchange is unnecessary. If I were they I would have done the following:
1) Right after the arrival at the place separate from the group and hide somewhere to the end of the game.
I literally had the same thought and came to the comments to see if someone else did too
That would also explain why they're silent during the match. Probably sitting with razor sharp concentration looking at the match, waiting for what will happen
They even did not to do that. Just wait until after the game, travel back in time and take the bet.
i would love to see how you explain two items from Chamber
What if idea:
What if Ron ended up with Snape's potions textbook instead of Harry, thereby winning the Felix Felicis?

Them simply observing Krum well enough to recognize his ego, while knowing how much better the Irish team is, is enough explenation for me.
Right? That's what I was thinking. Like, these kids love quidditch. They'd pay attention to that sort of thing.
Two social and logical geniuses who love quiditch, guessing a rare outcome with a bet
I think the twins would be ok with meeting their future selves. Non twins would I think would feel weird about it.
What about all the trace violations by Harry Potter

One of my favorite moments when reading the fourth book was seeing the end of the quidditch match and realizing that the Weasley twins were right!
Just a quick clarification, even if you can only go back 5h with the time turner, you can daisy chain information way further back. For example:
At midnight, they see the outcome of the match, they then travel back to 7pm and meet themselves to tell themselves the result of the game. The twins from 7pm can then travel back to 2pm being replaced by their midnight selves.
Using this method, they can send information as far back as they want, as long as they agree to always relay the message they receive from their future selves when they see them appear.

@@CrackFoxJunior Maybe he thought like J that Krum would just keep waiting for Bulgaria to come back?
@@Morf369 I mean that's the obvious answer. The whole thing makes no sense when you only need to wait for 1 more goal to tie or 2 to win.
Yeah, me too. Way more likely than yet another time turner story
You know what Hermione couldn’t figure out? - just use the time turner to get an extra few hours of sleep!
@@SgtSupaman I would probably nap during the day when others are in classes.
@@Devlinator61116 honestly, that makes sense
This confuses my brain. Can you explain? How would their past and future selves be there at the same time?
Nah, not too ludocrous. That is pretty much the same conclusion I arrived at with them using a time turner to go back in time.
i dont love the forward timetravel, but i do like this idea in general.
Yep my exact thoughts as well. This makes much more sense in terms of Time Turner rules as we know them.
So Percy lost a lot time turner, but was given a job at the ministry, yes that seems somewhat on par.
I'm thinking Fred and George had prepared for the moment by making something that looked like the time turner. They weren't going to test it when they got it back. So, after Percy stopped needing it for classes, Fred and George made the switch, Percy turned in the fake, and no one knew the real one was missing.
Neighbouring the British government for all of the 21st century, and that's pretty much what happens a bit too often.
Same!
Two things I did not expect when I woke up today: another way to delve deeper into Ludo Bagman trivia and of course a great potato voice by J. Both are appreciated and enjoyed!
I had to draw the explanation on a mini whiteboard for this to make sense. Totally worth it. Interesting theory!
The twins knew they would have to make an outrageous bet to win big. They didnt need time turners they just needed to know how likely it was that Viktor wouldnt want to lose largely against Ireland.
Good point. Making a more reasonable bet with more favorable odds wouldn’t have as big of a payout.
I mean they gave the map to Harry around Christmas. So they could have known about Hermione but considering that Percy was already doing it. They knew that she was doing the same thing too.
"Nope ! Welcome to a theory inside a theory." 😂😂😂 I laughed SO LOUDLY 😂😂😂
Maybe they actually excel at Divination. Trelawney did point out that Ron had a good inner eye. It's an inherited skill and it's plausible that they actually saw the end of the match. Twins have had the stigma that they are psychic to a degree so would make sense that they had 'the gift'
I forgot I had it on 1.5 speed and J's voice still wasn't much faster lol. Love his voice!!

They were wrong!"... somewhere, a certain Pottermore quiz master agrees with you 😆
I clicked on this video not thinking I was going to believe it.... But this is one of my favorite theories they've done!

If I had a galleon for every time the SCB didn't realize a word or concept was something that's an everyday part of British culture, I could make my own massive bet on the WC.
I'm pretty sure it went like this if it's true:
In camp where they set up the tent they find a note from themselves or run into their others when separated (Future Fred talks to Present George, and Future George to Present Fred).
Krum was just done playing. He wanted to go home 😂
14:25
I got one issue with this theory so far, if the twins did do that why didn't they do something about the death eaters that would be coming

It had nothing to do with points, just whomever finished the maze first
I’d forgotten that that’s such a good point, maybe it’s like I quidditch situation where the points you get are so high that it’s most likely a win
Could you do a video on what if Quirrel succeeded in gaining the philosophers stone?
As soon as I saw the title I knew I had to watch because I knew the video would be good and talking about my home country winning the quidditch World Cup.
How did they get Percy's time Turner without him or anyone at Hogwarts notice it was missing or duplicated?
I just figured that they knew their quidditch teams and that while Ireland has the better team, Krum was the better Seeker.
betterhelp does more harm than good
What if they just duck out & hide when they see Ludo, go back after the match ends and place a bet with Ludo after they'd ducked out? They'd have all the context of conversation, have never met themselves, and only use the simple mode of the thing turner.

I always assumed they had to have had a time turner, but I never figured out how they had access to one. Thanks for giving me a good head canon! 😊
Are sure they won’t just settle for half shares of an eel farm he could just pay them with that
Before watching whole thing... The Weasley's have an ancestor who was a Seer and that gift has been given to the boys
For example: (Chamber of Secrets, Ron while looking at the award Tom Riddle got) 'Maybe he killed myrtle that would make everyone happy.'
This theory works both way, and I think it's for sure how the boys did it
Someone doesn’t make sports bets on the regular. Making bets like that are normal
I feel like understanding a league table with goal differential helps with comprehending how the quidditch scoring work.
Fred and george could have hid away from their family and watched the cup from lomewhere else and the travelled to the past to place the bet and watch the match normally this way you don't have to rely on the chance of the timeturner being able to travel to the future.

It apparently states in their terms and conditions unless you opt out, they can record your sessions and sell your information (Name, age, address, phone number, IP, that sort of stuff, not medical or mental health info)to marketers.
Recording the sessions is a red flag. I've heard of some IRL therapists doing it, but it seems like a terrible idea because it can so easily lead to HIPPA violations and breaches of Doctor/Patient privilege.
As for selling the data... Sorry, but you're using a google a product right now. They are already selling all of your data and have everything your therapist does and more. the average person gave up their privacy ten years ago when they started posting everything about themselves online.
Don't get me wrong, its evil that they're selling people's info, because the marketers know that the info is for people seeking mental health services. They likely turn around and sell that to drug manufacturers who know who target with adds for their latest anti-depressant or whatever. Its just the fact that, well, this isn't new or unusual. Its a fact of life in the digital age.
None of this should surprise anyone. None of it should be shocking. This is life on the internet.

@@Kilthan2050In 2018 they got hit with unfear pricing issue and having fake reviews by payed reviewers.
In 2020 it broke out that they have been selling patient information since 2017and were ordered to pay $7.8 million to people who were their patients from 2017 to 2020.
The beet could have been the result of simply observing the teams and gauging their strengths/weaknesses against each other:
1) Krum being a seeker that's 10-20x better than the irish's seeker means krum will likely catch the snitch....EVEN if it means the team loses, as that's likely a more common occurance as people think.
2) We're told Irish has 7 excellent players and the bulgarian's only great player is Krum. Meaning the Irish will score like mad.
facts 1 and 2 mean the match can only end in 1 of 3 ways:
either Krum catches the snitch QUICKLY, ending the match before irish can score a 15 point lead (unlikely), Irish's seeker beats krum to the snitch (unlikely), or Krum catches the snitch while Bulgaria is so far behind they can't win, so Krum decides to end the match his own way (most likely)
This. It's not like such bets have been made in the real world or anything lol

"No one asks Alice to survive, so Voldemort just kills every Longbottom and continues to rise to power. The end."
@@IdaSantti But that wouldn't really be a "Neville is the Chosen One" theory, would it? It would just be a "Neville is attacked by Voldemort" theory. There would have to be other circumstances in place for Neville to survive, be marked, and thus become the Chosen One.
18:40 and they are watching EVERYONE around them to plan paths for the future selves.

While true, selling the contents of a form that you fill out for what mental health issues you are struggling with gets particularly scummy.
You going online at all is leaving your data there to harvest unless you have security in a way that won’t take your info whatsoever. So basically, are you using security here because if not, you are part of the problem as well.
I've always been underappreciating how good of a team Fred and George were. Who else plans this much regarding their life together with their siblings? You need to be very close. This is the most fulfilling relationship possible. They were acting as a single unit, I'm so jealous)))
This theory also helps explain why Fred and George just happened to bring their life savings to the world cup. Sort of a strange thing to do unless you already knew you were going to place a large wager.
You don't have to be planning on cheating a wager to be planning on making one.
Nice vid....but a few points i think may have been overlooked:-
1) No proof Percy needed a time turner - It is equally possible that he did his last 2 subjects after class hours, similar to harry doing occlumency under the cover of 'remedial potions'.
I always thought skiving was a portmanteau for scheming and conniving, since the brothers were always up to something.
Could you manipulate bets and gambling in the wizarding world with a time turner? That's incredibly powerful
@supercarlinbrothers Have you played the Harry Potter game? It was so fun to see the magic come to life in an interactive way, and you could tell how big of fans the creators are of the series.
Never even considered this lol. Always put it down to lucky guess work.
