who here actually likes Fi? I love Fi. it might be because of nostalgia. (skyward sword was the first Zelda game my brother played for me) but I love Fi, I mean sure she's annoying, but I like to overlook it and think of the friendship Link and FI share.

I dont mind her at all, not even remotely interrupting past the tutorial section... no where even close to Navi. People just overexaggerate.
I initially found her annoying, but, she grew on me, making it VERY sad when she essentially dies at the end... which im positive was the point and intention of the whole thing. I think it was specifically designed that way... I mean she is so robotic all the way through, then she finally has some humanity to her RIGHT at the end. Its sad.
All she did was help you, how can you hate that? Its not like she forced you to constantly pause gameplay, the most she really ask is to check the damn douse scanner which I never use... big whoop, it takes 1 second and happens like 5 times tops.
I also stand by "Fee"
People will bring up Pi, you know, 3.14 etc, but pronunciation doesnt work like that, you cant just say "This word is similarly spelled, thus, it must be the same!" Because the language has so many contradictions if that were true.
I could say "Fi Fy Fo Fum"... everyone reads "Fee Fye Foe Fum" proving this exact point
I played Skyward Sword when I was a child and I did Hero Mode as well but not some sidequests
I figured that Fi woke up every time a new hero drew her out of the pedestal, but she just never actually showed herself. didn't the master sword glow right before the hero of time performed the final blow into ganon's piggy face? and it always seemed to glow in Wind waker once it's true power was unlocked, too. I've always assumed that was Fi's doing, meaning that she was awake and ready to fight. in botw, it's no different

In Twilight Princess, Link transforming back into a human and pulling the Master sword is because of Fi, correct? We see the blade glow very similarly to SS and BotW, and then Midna tells you that the blade has accepted you as it's Master.
Intergalactic Vaati I've always thought that the fact the Master Sword is the Blade of Evil's Bane, it just destroyed Zant's curse (or took the Twilight Shard out of Link).

In Ocarina of Time, the Master Sword also glowed a light blue before Link dealt the final attack on Ganon. Maybe that was Fi telling the Hero of Time to deal the final blow?
No, It's because the Master Sword has a special ability to banish evil. And Zant cursed Link to be forever a wolf. So when he got near the Master Sword, he returned to normal, because Zant is powered by Ganon and the Master Sword is the blade of evils bane. Fi is in the sword, but it's evil banishing powers that make it glow aren't connected to Fi directly. It just so happened that the sword would glow when she spoke to Link.

I do believe the main reason Fi awoke was because she sensed an extreme amount of Demise' power within Calamity Ganon, especially with Beast Ganon where Zelda states that it is a pure embodiment of the ancient evil (Demise)

Hey so on the topic, The Breach of Demise area on the map near the ridgelands is supposed to be the place where demise first escaped the underworld in the prologue of skyward sword, right? that's why there's a giant fissure, like a scar in the earth.
I cried when I heard that familiar sound effect from Skyward Sword.

The Japanese spelling of Fi's name is ファイ, the romanization of which is fai. Therefore, the English pronunciation would be faɪ (English IPA), as in rhyming with the word "my." (You wrote this as "Fy".)

I got a theory this to. I been saying for a while that Calamity Ganon is none then Demise himself and I believe it could be true in the game. Here's how it goes like OK as we know Fi claims that after defeating Demise she would enter a sleep without end or time of awakening but as we know that wouldn't be true and you forgot about what Fi told Link before she slept within the sword "Thank you Link May we meet again. In another life." From the quote would mean that Fi claims that she would awaken again at one point. As we know in final memory in BOTW we know that Link fell while defending Zelda but Zelda who thought was losing Link to death she heard Fi's voice and Fi told Zelda that Link could be saved from his Grim fate. And when you complete the Trial Of The Sword we know that Link can hear Fi and took up the most powerful evil destroying weapon in the game. Now how did Fi awaken? Now I stated multiple times that Demise is in fact Calamity Ganon himself which I find believable because Demise mysteriously escaped the master sword and that's how the master sword looks horrible in the logo and in game I believe that Demise must have escaped the master sword to the point where he can return as any form he desires but that's a theory for another time. That's my theory on Fi's awakening
I think that Fi isn't awake. if she was awake she'd be popping out of your sword warning you that you battier was low. joke aside, I think that she's just kind of wakening up a little to give a message, then going back to sleep.

Man just hearing the music makes me miss SS so much. Such a great game. So underrated.
It could have to do with the fact that since Calamity Ganon is Demise's hatred given form, that Fi awoke from her slumber. If her initial purpose was to make sure that Demise was sealed away, the sword could've realized that Calamity Ganon was essentially Demise. Rebirth meant that it would have to be re-activated again.
Wouldn't quite say he escaped the Master Sword, rather that the Malice of Calamity Ganon was as it said, "Hatred and Malice Incarnate". That incarnation would be Demise's hatred, and Ganon giving up on reincarnation.

The Japanese name is written as Fai, using the katakana for Fa and I, which produces the Fye sound we know. So even though it's written as Fi in the game, it's pronunciation is Fye. As there's no contradiction from the English version, Fai is the correct pronunciation, and saying it's spelt Fi won't change that.
ShadowVincent3 in the Japanese version of Hyrule Warriors, Volga's is Valga. Different spellings =/= same pronunciations.
Zachary Erikson, Hyrule Warriors isn't cannon. it doesn't really matter how it's pronounced. it's like how deku can be pronounced Deeku or Dehku. I pronounce it Fee and you can pronounce it however. :)
Wrong pronunciation is still wrong though... Would you correct someone if they said your name wrong? Or would you just go "It's ok, call me whatever."
Regardless of Hyrule Warriors being cannon or not, it still confirmed Fi's pronunciation.
Deku is also pronounced Deh-ku. Since it's a direct translation of the japanese name, that's it's actual sound, not Dee-ku

Those are terms that can really be used interchangeably in storytelling. It's the same ganon.

Well, what if the Champions Ballad is similar, creating the mystical tune of the champions allows Fi to leave the sword and speak freely once again.
Link can heard fi's voice after the trial, but in the secret end, zelda says that she can't heard the voice anymore
My first true Zelda game was skyward sword, and in terms of STORY its my favorite, but i was really sad after playing twilight princess next, i was like ...''WAIT! WHY CANT I SHOOT LAZERS OUT OF MY SWORD?! WHERES FI?!' i actually really liked Fi, she was nice
Only 3 3D Zelda games give Link access to the sword beam (in the order of debut): Majora's Mask, Skyward Sword, and Breath of the Wild. As far as I know, every 2D iteration of the Master Sword had sword beams, not to mention the fact that Fi was introduced in Skyward Sword.
It may be that even in slumber she was able to sense Link's approaching death and that was enough for her to awaken. I think she reached out to Zelda to help him not just to save Hyrule but also because as she cares for Link she wouldn't want anything to happen to him.
1:10, during the actual cutscene, it actually plays Fi’s theme slowly with varying tempo across higher and lower variants if the same notes (musically known as octaves). It’s hard to see, but if you listen closely, you can make it out.

so yeah...that's pretty interesting. If we finally awakened the sword from its slumber, we have awakened Fi aswell supposedly. Now i'm even more pumped up for the next title in the franchise who knows how and if they'll make her physically come back.
The way I think about it is that the "sleep" she mentioned in Skyward Sword was just her way of saying she would remain inside the sword forever. I think she has been awake within the sword the entire time, even Zelda says in a recovered memory that according to legend, those who wield the sword can hear the voice (implying that more heroes than just the Skyward Sword Link have heard it). This is a good theory that would lead to a potentially interesting DLC plot line, but I think you may be overthinking it a bit.

what bugs me is that the Master Sword doesn't go 120 when we face the malice when it's brought up. This is supposed to be the legendary sword of evils bane right?

DemonEyeX To be fair that would be too overpowered. That being said the master has never been able to kill ganon or ganondorf it's only been able to weaken him.
In TP and in WW Ganondorf was killed by a Master Sword - wielding Link.

Aidan Weaver that would make the game an absolute faceroll, the master sword already makes the bosses absurdly easy. it is a 1 handed weapon with damage comparable to a two handed sword with a much faster attack speed. it is also unbreakable (pretty much) and can fire off sword beams... the master sword is already OP
and after trial of the sword when it is full power all the time every monster that isn't made to be a nightmare is a joke

But Zelda says that she can no longer hear the voice of the sword. Wouldn't that imply that Fi went back to sleep? It really could be that the Fi noise was just a fun little nod.
Here's a theory. We know that Demise was a demon. And that Ganon was called the demon king in Breath of the Wild. What if, assuming that Ganon was a Gerudo before his descent into Malice, the human Ganon discovered a way to cut the magical bond tethering Demise to the Master Sword. When he did this, Calamity Ganon rose as Demise assuming his true form. But the reincarnation curse was still in place. So Dark Beast Ganon, ending the reincarnation cycle, finally "killed" Ganon. Meaning whatever timeline BotW is in needs a new villain. Vaati anyone?
Hard to say that the beast was Demise, Calamity Ganon looks like your typical Ganondorf in beast form, without the human intelligence.

I actually liked Fi, she was an ok character, and I loved SWS and the thought that the sword is conscious and and actual being is awesome, as it's not just some badass weapon.

i think her "slumber" means just being in the sword, not... being "asleep" ...
Based on the wording that calamity Ganon gave up reincarnation for his pure enraged form during dark beast phase, the Demise fully awake theory is plausible, plus, in the final memory, when link is dying, the master sword gives off a glow and fi's sound effect for entering/leaving the sword happens and that is how Zelda is told to take him to the shrine of resurrection
If Fi comes back at least Ghirahim has to return too since he is her counterpart and Demise's sword and it did not really confirm that his dead or alive.
I hope we can see more of her past, maybe she has a special relationship with Ghirahim, I wonder what would happen if he returns too.
I do want to see Fi in her human form and if Ghirahim has 3 different forms, then it's fair that she can turn into a human with blue-purple eyes and blue short or long beautiful hair and have actual arms and hands to fight in combat with her sword fighting skills and some of her powers. I would love to see them get a new BOTW design ( it's still the same person but with a new look). Too bad they never get to meet in Skyward Sword face to face. It would be kinda funny while they are fighting Ghirahim would tease or flirt with her will they're alone or in battle.

This was probably already theorized but I believe that the trial of the sword taken place inside the master sword, the reason you gain the full power is because you clean out the darkness that was sealed inside the master sword itself
I get it. Each Ganon were never truly at their strongest in each incarnation. So when calamity Ganon was released, he was at his true potential and thus, Fi is fully awaken and the full power has been unleashed! The Link unleashed!!!
Problem: Zelda heard Fi's voice from the Sword before LInk was put in the Chamber of Resurrection, so unless Link did the trials before his slumber and the Master Sword lost its power again over the next century...

Just like you can talk in your dreams Fi talked to Zelda and Link while still sleeping. I'd say the "slumber without end" was still true; Fi didn't leave the sword and showed herself. But in times of great need she can still communicate.
I would love to see Fi return in her full form

We know that BOTW is in one of the split timelines and the original successful sealing of Calamity Ganon was 10,000 years before present day BOTW. This means Fi has been cooped up in that space for well over 10,000 years. Holy Shit that's a long ass time.

Ganon is Demise's curse. Demise pulled a Voldemort and split his soul in order to remain unkilled, and therefore comeback to the world of the goddess, using the rotting corpse of ganons' to lie dormant until he could regrow his power. It's kind of like what happened in Skyward Swords history. Hylia and the other goddesses killed of much of Demise and sealed him away, but he regrew his power while stuck in a weaker state leading to the first incarnation of Link the goddesses' chosen hero, as Ganon or Ganondorf would be Demise's chosen hero.
Hopefully history will not repeat itself again.
Calamity Gannon is Demise, Proof of it is when Urbosa says "It is written that Calamity Gannon once took on the form of a Gerudo."
Djlink01 minecraft No that's for when Ganon was Ganondorf. His original form is as a Gerudo and in BotW he is only a beast.
Djlink01 minecraft the threat of demise is mentioned in the scripts of the game the story tells of link and a Princess sealing away demise though the story is drastically different in terms of how it happened demise was sealed away using the master sword alone and the triforce but it would appear that the game has Purposely left out any knowledge of the triforce ever existing all they know is what the three triangles stand for and that's about it. the master sword is also never reffered to by any one and the master sword Proper only as the sword that seals the darkness or the legendary blade of the hero but never by it's true name unless it is by a shieka tribe member or someone with higher Knowledge it would seem most of hyrule's legends have been lost to time and if they still exist the words have become jumbled and lost as well as entirely almost forgotten. if we look at it this way hyrule's history must have been Purposely manipulated by someone to prevent war and strife, but demise/ganon's Curse will never fade from the world as long as the hero and Princess still draw breath he will walk the earth as man or beast.

When you pull the master sword, the master sword glows, and fi's theme plays in a very different depth. But, if you sample it, and play it from higher, it's definitely fi's theme. (only on the master trial though)
Also zelda was talking to the sword like to a person in the 18th mermory.
They're definitely hinting that fi is back.

Telepathy through dreams isn't something uncommon in the zelda series. Might explain why Fi was able to talk with Zelda to save Link, but still never appeared out of the sword despite that. She could very well still be sleeping, but still knowing what's going on.
I GUESS the "past" machinary we saw in skyward sworf kinda resembles the tech we see here, not totally but it made me think of it. Why do i say this?
Because in SS they knew master sword before it was fully upgraded for what it was. So... either Fi came up with the name on the spot or master sword existed before SS.
I always liked Fi when playing SS, but was often very very annoyed by her at times. Still, I loved having her alongside me and her part in the story
So maybe the awakening means Demise escaped or almost escaped the sword. Maybe that's what Breath Of The Wild 2 is about, the awaking of Fi and escaping of Demise. Than we will see Demise and Fi after all those "thousands of years".

I wish we got more backstory on the master sword in Botw, such as a back story on the sword being decayed. It's in the logo and the only time we see it damaged was in the past. I would have liked to have seen it damaged still 100 years later and have to do trials to fix it.
Am I the only one who thinks that something worse than the Calamity Gannon is coming...? I mean, let's say Fi still reacts to Gaurdians in DLC2, or responds to something odd... It would be a terrible fate if so....

Even though it's not Canon, Breath of the Wild seems a lot like Hyrule Warriors. Confusing timeline, characters that don't belong (I.e the Rito people), and Dark Beast Ganon. In Hyrule Warriors, Ganon is revived because the seal on the 4 pieces of ganons soul are released, and one of them is tied to the master sword. Makes me wonder if there's a direct connection between the concepts of each game.

Well, this explains the BotW sequel teaser they gave today... Looked like Fi bound by corruption (and some zombie corpse thing) and sounded like Fi.
Demise's remains was eradicated, and Fi was still helpin' most of her master's descendants as a friend when she was needed. She even put Ocarina of Time Link ta sleep fer seven years so he could be ready ta use the Master Sword (expectin' the maturity so he'd be strong enough ta wield it), even after he turned 17 years old fer the first time. But by puttin' him ta sleep, she allowed Ganondorf ta really get inside the Sacred Realm, touch the Triforce, split it into three triangles, turn the Golden Land into the Dark World, and use the Triforce of Power ta really take over the kingdom. So Link, Navi, Zelda, and Fi was workin' together in dealin' with him in the last battle, an' lettin' the sages seal 'im away as atonement fer seven years ago (even though they didn't know Fi, the A.I. who was sleepin' in the Master Sword). All part of fulfillin' the prophecy about the Hero of Time (Link) bein' victorious against an evil Triforce user (Ganondorf).
The Master Sword is used to combat, abd seal Demise, that’s why Ganon keeps coming back. Ganon is a creation, a curse of Demise. So while the Master Sword can fight him, it can’t ever truly defeat him. I believe every time the master sword fights Ganon, and then Ganon returns it releases a little bit more of demise into Ganon from the sword. This of course culminating with the rise of Calamity Ganon, a herald to the full return of Demise, as the snout of Demise inside has reached an event horizon. The next time won’t be Ganon returning it will be Demise. Just my personal theory
I would believe that demise escapes because unlike what they wanted in skyward sword the master sword had to be pulled and reused to combat evil so slowly over time the seal on demise got weaker and weaker with each new link pulling the master sword to use it against Ganon. Then the link of breath of the wild pulled the sword before the great evil showed up and that allowed Demise to escape once and for all. But that's just a theory.
It's a really good theory but the King says on the Great Plateau that Calamity Ganon was born into the Kingdom (which I'm assuming is as a new or old Ganondorf) and his transformation into malice is was turned him into the Calamity that is there now.
Although thinking about it it would make sense if Demise's spirit was to break free of the Sword it would go and try to find its reincarnated hatred (Ganondorf) but Demise was a god/Demi god so I think Calamity Ganon would be a lot more powerful than he is now and would have been able to have made a physical form easily which it couldn't because it didn't have time to
I hope we can see more of her past, maybe she has a special relationship with Ghirahim, I wonder what would happen if he returns too.
I do want to see Fi in her human form and if Ghirahim has 2 different forms (swords don't count, do they?) then it's fair that she can turn into a human with blue-purple eyes and blue short or long beautiful hair and have actual arms and hands to fight in combat with her sword fighting skills and some of her powers. I would love to see her in a new look since everyone got a change of clothing.

damn..fighting demise in the beginning, and the end..that's amazing sorta like a big circle
I hope we can see Fi in her human form, ( the form she uses her arms)
They added Fi so they could have a good reason to remake Skyward Sword
