    i have to say exactly thats happening in rl too. you have a locking diff that tansfers power over to tire that has contact to the street. if the other tire touches the ground again power distribution changes in an instant. in combination with a steering angle this simply makes you loose control over the car. you basicly hit a slight speedbumb at 150-200kmh in a CURVE. never drove le mans but i think physics is doing its job here

    When you thought he hit an invisible wall, it's actually simply lag. Online + physics can create those weird things.
    From his own point of view, he probably just hit the wall or another car, and that's what matters, nothing was wrong on his side.
    But from your point of view, because of the lag, it didn't quite exactly show what happened to him, so what's why you saw him hitting an invisible wall.

      Can completely relate. I dont know how the system detects but it needs an overhaul. What bugs me the most though is it seems that if you tap someone and cause no issues but someone else in a short amount of time hits the person you tapped hard you get the penalty. It seems that if during the time the game is calculating if you deserve a penalty or not an someone else effects the car you tapped it will give you the penalty.

    I think Timmeh hit the wall but due to servers low tickrate/lag the actual player is smoothed out so the actual location of the player was 200-300ms later which you can see and then it just got violently updated to smooth out without blinking and glitching.

      @sermerlin1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@M.Ochasan Load that map with any car and drive up to the wall. You will see you hit the real wall and not the invisible wall like seen here.
      This is server interpolation what we are seeing here. Server is smoothing out other players basically by predicting their path of travel and when something happens and player changes path suddenly it will attempt to correct itself but as it is too late to put the player where it hit the wall as that would cause blinking, it just executes animation of hitting the wall and thus it looks like it's invisible wall.

    How you made it through the chicane? 11:56

    It seems like pitch and roll values are not illustrated among other online opponents, (or atleast beyond the point where one or more wheels lift off from the ground unevenly) so I'lI guess that in the death chicane, their inside wheels gets lifted off from the ground, but their cars unsettled when the inside wheels hit the ground and the weight shifts rapidly from loaded corners of the car, to unloaded... But since you don't see the inside wheels in the air, the spin seems like it's lagging behind. (My guess
    I remember doing Mini Cooper S '65 races with super soft tyres in GT Sport online, where I could see my opponents cars seemingly driving straight off the track, but knowing better from being on voice-chats, AND my own experiences througout those races. It was hilarious :D

    I sure enjoy your videos as many others. Calm voice and interesting races. However what I enjoy the most (especially in this race) is that you never really aim for being in the first spot but (as you say at around 11:10) you try to be as quick as possible with the car and you really just try to get a good race. Of course you are out to gain positions, as this is obviously the point of a race, but even if you can't gain that much, or just gain only a few or even loose a position you stay calm or at least your commentary. And that is really great.
    As someone who struggles with the setup of a car and often struggles to get a good race, your statement just hit me. Try to pack the best you can and drive as good/fast as you can and be happy with your own progress/success.

    No one is safe from these kerbs in the death chicane, I have seen many a competent player taken out with these new physics. It seems that the only safe way to traverse them is to apply absolutely no throttle. The trouble with that is that it is too slow compared to those that would take it full on and survive. The Aston Martin, got his rear wheel over the curb and hopped off it on exit. With the wheel now in the air and him in turn and on the fuel, he lost traction and spun. Best, I think, to be off the fuel until you are through the death curves. Four tires on the pavement first then smash the pedal.

  • @tehnixius
    @tehnixius 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have kinda figured out that part of late. As soon as you cut into the crack (bus stop) start aiming the car towards the exit in a straight line. If you're a second late, you'll hit the outer wall. If you're too early you'll hit the inner wall. Leave the accelerator if you're feeling unsafe.

    Only thing I can think of why ppl spin on the curbs, it's like geometry where the car leaning at a point causes the tire to gain traction on the tire and just pulls all the momentum later

    • @Loctorak
      @Loctorak 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thats pretty much what happens. The movement of a car is entirely dependent on the 4 contact points its wheels have with the ground at any given point. So if the car is airborne and suddenly has 0 control or traction and the steering or vehicle angle changes, the contact will resume with a force that's offset from the cars current trajectory. Considering theres a period where you may only have that 1 contact point or 2 at max, thats also less supporting grip to stabilise the car so its quite literally the full power of the engine vs the inertia of the car as it comes down, and the engine tends to win that battle in spectacular ways

  • @Vulpes_Shinbi
    @Vulpes_Shinbi 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Oh yeah, Timmy clipped his right rear on the kerb on exit, making his car jolt to the left with the leftwards momentum he already had.

  • @fabiolean
    @fabiolean ปีที่แล้ว

    I need to rewatch some of the crashes but it seems to me that the curb itself (painted black/white) and the off-track area (painted red) have two different traction properties. Since it's such a steep curb, you end up with wheels on AND off the ground at the same time as wheels on and off the different surfaces. Wonderful recipe for a spin at high speed.

    Those curbs are supposed to unsettle the car at those speeds. The point of those specific curbs is that your supposed to have to slow, but nobody does so every lap becomes Russian roulette lol. Video is a good laugh. Greatly enjoy the content, keep up the good work Steve.

    There's an invisible wall on the Daytona course too, found that out when I lost control going into the first corner.
    I have to figure out how to race with Europeans, racing with Americans is brutal, I am a considerate driver and if I feel I didn't an over take, I give it back, I've just started playing Sport and it's addicting, I've already taken a few poles and wins, not bad for just using a controller, I stopped using the arrow button and now use the joystick, my times have drastically improved.

  • @Roxst4r17

    My guess toward the question on the physics of the game and the curbs: it’s a curb, you go over it this causes an upward force reducing traction. As the vehicle lands it’s actually contacting with much more force than if it were flat to begin with. This accounts for the “late” curb reaction as the car settles and suddenly grips harder than expected.

    The second bump is quite high so I find its best to get wheels either side of it (if poss!) to avoid the oversteer if the offside wheels go over it.

    I really hope the Tokyo expressway circuit with the super doom chicane pops up soon to see how much carnage those curbs can do.

  • @SicKem
    @SicKem 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    When you are going through the chicane, you dont want to go full left. The curb has a dip on the left side of it that if you hit will fling you into the wall. Instead you want to get on the edge of hit that , while also aiming your car to the right as much as you can. Thats how I do it flat on soft and medium tires.

    I did the third nations race at Suzuka with the 2016 Super GTs, and Degner 1 kerb is very deadly, you have to cut it to get a fast lap but its scary to do because there is a very high chance for you to be thrown out of track if u go over it. Not sure if its like this in real life nor do I remember how that kerb was before the new physics but it has become a keeb of death

    ive noticed a few times on random corners (various tracks) where the back end randomly jerks out and in (my guess would be how the track is loaded and syncronised between ps4/ps4 pro and ps5 given the "cross" play between them in addition to network sync like when cars appear to flicker side to side sometimes though i only noticed that during a couple of those manufacturer cup races)

    Thats the problem with ghosting in these games, people end up not learning a crucial part of racing, avoiding contact and respecting yellow flags. I always try to avoid driving in to people even when they are ghosting, not because im scared they'll unghost, but because thats how I think racing should be.

    Yep, always hard through that section, but as long as you can thread it with one side of your wheels maintaining contact with the ground, the car won’t break loose. Easier said than done, especially when your line of site is blocked by opponents that may be in front of you.

    I've never noticed how much slower TCS makes you on exit (and cornering) speeds before playing this, probs because I've never played sims much, nor had the opportunity to change it on the fly, but now I drive mostly without it if I can be sensitive enough with that throttle.

    I think main issue here is the right wheels coming into contact with the curb. The curb is like a "c" shape. So near the end of the chicane, the right wheels clip the curb, gaining a lot of friction and upwards momentum, causing the car to swerve right and unsettling the car
