Dylan is known for never playing a song the same way in every performance. If you notice at the beginning Clapton was watching Dylan to see where he was going with it. Oh, you should check out "Bob Dylan's 115th Dream"
Dylan's always re-working his songs, turning them into waltzes, or country, or jazzy, or whatever, just to play with them. His songs lend themselves to that because he never does the "definitive version" in the studio. They are strong enough melodically and lyrically to stand up without having to produce and arrange them perfectly. If you see him from one tour to another, the songs will all have new spins to them. His phrasing is so exceptional that he can adapt lyrics to any song, make them fit where nobody else could pull it off. A perfect example of that is Brownsville Girl, where he basically sings a short novel. Or Hurricane, which I think you've heard, where he sings an episode of America's Most Wanted basically.
I suggest the next live to be "Shelter From the Storm" from the Rolling Thunder Revue Tour. Also "Maggie's Farm" and "Isis" from same tour. Totally different arrangements and I love it.
This is wonderful! A great country spin. Bob takes a few minutes to settle in but when he does Clapton gives a big grin to his bandmate. Clapton did the heavy lifting on the guitar solo. Dylan SMILES!
Bob’s song “The lonesome death of Hattie Carroll” should be your next reaction. You will not regret it. It’s based on a very true and heartbreaking story
Bob Dylan Live Live At Madison Square Garden 30 Juni 1999 Part 1 How good is Bob Dylan as a singer/songwriter/performer? I give my opinion by sending a video that is not one of his hits. The sound is less than perfect. Lighting is poor and the camera work is fuzzy. The drummer is Winston Watson who maintained a diary of playing five years for Bob: I left comments a year ago for the song below: Possibly The Best Version ! I`ll Remember You, Bob Dylan, Rochester ,NY 22.10.1994 BOB DYLAN NEWCASTLE 1984 WITH SOUND UPGRADE AND 4K Grateful Dead 7 4 87 (Set 2) W/ Bob Dylan - [4k Dgital Remaster] [Healy/Pearson A live studio recording with Mark Knopfler and Mick Taylor showing how musicians react while playing. Bob Dylan - Don't Fall Apart on Me Tonight (Version 2) (Official Video) Bob Dylan - The 30th Anniversary Concert (1992)
Great reaction. You are absolutely right Dylan keeps his back catalogue fresh by mining new elements and interpretations that sometimes barely resemble the original but, often shine as bright. My suggestion for an incredible performance is Dylan live at the Free Trade Hall Manchester England 1966 performing “Like A Rolling Stone” and/or Ballad of A Thin Man” with The Hawks later known as The Band. He leaves it all on the stage.
Bob and Eric's live version of "It's Not Dark Yet" awesome!! I love this version of Don't Think Twice. Dylan's bootlegs are great too, I like some of the bootlegs better than the album versions.
Bob has many colours in many eras of his long life of recordings as well as live shows . I’ve seen him 6 times over 30 years and his 4 big periods early 60s 70/80s 90s and post 2000 all very different .. try his Mark Knofler colaborations with ‘ Blind Willie McTell or Slow Train and another is his Grammy Winning ‘ Time Out of Mind Album songs like ‘ It Ain’t Dark Yet ‘ or ‘ Mississippi’ Peace Bro ❤ Also His Live Unplugged Sony Show . ‘ John Brown ‘
My favorite Dylan is late 80’s early 90’s releases. Infidels with Knopfler and Mick Taylor is unbelievable and Oh Mercy is probably the most goose bumpy sound ever
Enjoy your reviews. Checkout the 30th anniversary concert. The whole show is great! One of the encores is My Back Pages with Clapton, George Harrison, Neil Young, Tom Petty and more.
Dylan is a unique presence in music; folk-hero, protest icon, surreal serenader, social commentator, more recently Nobel-Prize winning poet, I'm sure I missed a few, you've probably got some. Glad he's still cranking it out. Gawd bless St. Bob. 😇 ✌🏼😁🎶❤️🍁❤️✨️🕊
I've not seen this performance before. I would love context. Before or after Dylan's move into electric. Before or after (I suspect before) his motorcycle accident. And. of course, his relationship with Clapton. So many important historical happenings. I've heard many good things about the new film about him. Thanks for posting. I must pull out my copy of Positively 4th Street.
Hi Polo - check out these songs: •Tweeter & the Monkey Man •Congratulations •Dirty World These guys tried to go incognito - but couldn't for long ... you'll see why😎! "The Traveling Wilbury's" 1 guy is a FAV of yours😁!
Just want to say that's Nathan East on the bass. He's kinda wing man for Eric trhu his solo career. He can play anything. This band supported a GEORGE HARRISON short tour in Japan and a great live double (LP)album in the 90s in front . George was in great shape and played all his classics with and without the Beatles 😊. One opportunity to listen to his Beatles songs never played live before. Check it out ✌️ peace
My top Dylan live performances are too many to mention, I don't know how to narrow it down, Like rocks in a river bed, there's lots of water streaming around.
This is not the version I think people were asking you to check out on the original thread, but I’m glad you did because I’ve never seen it before and I don’t think I’ve ever heard Dylan play that much lead guitar! And the drummer is the great Mr. Steve Gadd (played drums on the song Aja by Steely Dan). I’d still recommend the Clapton version from the 30th anniversary concert for Dylan. A very bluesy take on the song with killer vocals and guitar by Clapton and Booker T. Jones on the organ. th-cam.com/video/xrST5cELzyw/w-d-xo.htmlsi=yzOTLV3ruSRurftr
I would like to see you do Isis, Desolation Row or The Groom's Still Waiting at the Alter. If you want to really hear a funny story and also want to do a 30-minute video, do Bob Dylan's 115th Dream.
Bob said he never played the same song the same way. Always changing the lyrics or the music. Ringo Starr was at one of his concerts and when he was spotted in the audience they asked him if he had a request. When he said it they told him they just played it.
Check out, The lonesome death of Hattie Carol from athe times they are a changing, then watch him perform it about 10 year's later from the Rolling Thunder revue Incidentally I love watching your reactions it's like hearing it all for the first time. ❤
Dylan toured and played with the Grateful Dead during the 80's. Here is a live preformace with Bob singing, "I'll Be You Baby Tonight" Jerry Gacia on Pedal Steel Guitar. Dylan was agreat admirer of Garcia's guitar playing. th-cam.com/video/ulARfcD9lcU/w-d-xo.htmlsi=3VdYfGcFIHjJjJ0f
Bob definitely a studio guy for a definitive version ,..he’s a roll of the dice 🎲 live …faster version but he stuck to the script with Clapton up there with him😂❤🫡🫡
That's a nice version...Clapton on his own doing this song is amazing...Dylan is hit or miss live...but his performance of Forever Young and Let me Follow you Down from the Last Waltz is exceptional...you will enjoy that one....

That 30th anniversary concert was AMAZING!
Watch the Ojays sing 'Emotionally Yours'. Gorgeous
Dylan is known for never playing a song the same way in every performance. If you notice at the beginning Clapton was watching Dylan to see where he was going with it. Oh, you should check out "Bob Dylan's 115th Dream"
Which he did at Live Aid with Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood.
Tried to throw them a curve ball at the last second and it didn't go well.

In 1969 he came out with Nashville Skyline. Lay Lady Lay is a tremendous song and my favorite from the album. Give it a shot.
Bob is a way random, crazy performer live…if you can embrace it then it is totally thrilling. So glad you enjoyed this.
Dylan was at his best live in the early to mid-sixties and mid-seventies.
"Girl from the North country!" with Johnny Cash!& "Lay,lady Lay!"
Lay lady lay.
Hurricane
Lily, Rosemary and the Jack of Hearts! It's like a little movie plot!!
I suggest the next live to be "Shelter From the Storm" from the Rolling Thunder Revue Tour. Also "Maggie's Farm" and "Isis" from same tour. Totally different arrangements and I love it.

The most bad ass entrance in rock history.
This song on “Live at Budokan” is done in reggae style and is my favorite version.
Tombstone blues, hyway 61, 115th dream, subterranean home sick blues.
So many amazing dylan tracks to discover keep on this journey friend.
There's an incredible version of the same song played and sung by Eric Clapton in thoe 30th anniversary concert fot Bob Dylan
Bob is so unique and that's what I love about him. His phrasing is so good and I loved his younger singing voice.
Bob’s song “The lonesome death of Hattie Carroll” should be your next reaction. You will not regret it. It’s based on a very true and heartbreaking story
Polo, I love your reaction!

Hi there 👋. I've seen this before. It's amazing, because Dylan was around 70s by then. He was really joyful and cheerful 😊
Bob and Eric's live version of "It's Not Dark Yet" awesome!! I love this version of Don't Think Twice. Dylan's bootlegs are great too, I like some of the bootlegs better than the album versions.
Polo. Love, love, love your Bob Dylan reviews. Looking for a good live performance? Try Ballad of A Thin Man, May 1966.

Jerry Reed had a version of this song that was way Country and 'poppy' similar to this 😉🔥🎼

Idiot Wind. Live.
Steve Gadd on drums (think Steely Dan Aja), Nathan East on bass. Every player on stage is top notch with decades long careers in the business

Dylan's electric period started in 1965, the motorcycle accident happened in 1967-ish and this concert is happening a couple decades later in the 90's
they have a song "Sign Language" really worth a listen

Hey Polo! Norm Macdonald has a great Dylon story about how he always is changing up his songs. It's on TH-cam. Look it up. Ringo! Ringo! Ringo!!!
Try ‘Ballad of a Thin Man’
Idiot wind live in mid 70's is epic!
He very rarely plays his songs the same way twice. He always is doing different arrangements on his songs.
