It was a real unique sound when it came out in the late 1970s. Just the heaviest use of synthesizers to make it into popular music by that time. It's all synths with drums and I think a bass guitar.

My kids were not impressed as they listened through their Millenial experienced ears. So I took a collection of other songs that came out during the time the Beatles were recording. THEN ... they got it. The Beatles are most influential group ever. They did things no one had thought to do in recording and still do those things today. this ranks really high for me. i don't think i've had it on for some time but it's in my head really frequently - it reminds me of my school days and the time when skinheads were a problem - i went to a brand new school that everyone thought was up market, but really it was a school that kids who got expelled from other schools went and it was filled with "bulldogs".

BTW, you named all four Beatles at the VERY BEGINNING of this video! Pete Best and Stuart Sutcliffe were band members briefly before they recorded their first record. So you really don't need to know about them since you're concentrating on reacting to Beatle records, and Pete or Stuart are not playing on any of them. I'm glad that you love "Hey Bulldog"! I do too, but even a lot of people who are "Beatle fans" (not the hardcore fans, just casual fans) don't know this record. It was never a "hit" and is not from one of their best loved albums. There's something different about The Beatles than ANY OTHER BAND. They only made records for about 7 years (1963-1970), but the amount of musical ground they covered in that concentrated period of time is MIND BLOWING. Their early records (e.g. "She Loves You" & sound COMPLETELY DIFFERENT from their mid and late period recordings. And from album to album, and even within the space of ONE ALBUM, they can sound like a hundred different bands, such is the breadth and depth of their genius. Gary Numan was a big deal to me as a teenager when "The Pleasure Principle album came out. Was so unlike what else was happening at the time.

First time I heard this it was like 1978. I had never heard anything like it. It scared me and I loved it. Gary Newman is the grandfather of electronic music...He still tours and he's still epic.

I can’t give you the exact date of its release, but I remember sitting in my bedroom for an entire Saturday listening to the radio on my cassette deck so I could record it for my mixed tape.

Appreciate your reaction. I grew up with their music. To me this is a visual listening experience, if that makes any sense? Real and surreal at same time. Musically, it was astonishing, hypnotic. The lyrics -- "Living is easy with eyes closed Misunderstanding all you see It's getting hard to be someone, but it all works out It doesn't matter much to me", I'm age 17 again. Maybe it's one of those art forms -- if you have to explain it, you will never get it?

They have so many other good songs. Their song Silver Future was on the soundtrack for Heavy Metal 2000, Power Trip, Gods and Punks. All great songs.

Sadly this was their last studio album before the plane crash , titled Street Survivors which ironically had flames surrounding the band on the album cover. They would reform the band with the surviving members in later years . All of the original members are all gone now leaving another tremendous void in rock music .
