  • Surf Fishing Destin Florida - How to Catch Sharks with Live Bait. This was our last day before we had to head back to Oklahoma. So I wanted to make sure I caught something. So I decided to use live bait to catch live bait to catch something big. You can almost always count on some sharks running up and down the beach in this area so I threw out some big live Baits on a cast out shark rig and hooked up with a couple good fish.

    Hey bud. I enjoy your videos. Im about to head down there next week to surf fish. Last year i caught a 6ft black tip and it was awesome! its my understanding your not allowed to target sharks from the beach. You ever have any problems shark fishing on the beach? Also i heard about you on the fishing not catching podcast so atleast 1 person is listening to it lol!

      Technically you arent supposed to target sharks in walton county from the beach. But you cant control what bites your bait.

    Awesome! Made for a great last day! I had a heron nearly fly into my boat the other day trying to steal my trout! Dang nuisance. lol

      Do you mean how much time it takes to land one after it is hooked?

    My surf fishing experiences have all been at OBX. I’ll be in Destin first week of September. I’m interested to know how far out in the water one can walk to cast. OBX doesn’t have flats, which makes slinging to a sand bar practically impossible.
    I love getting wet, and would love the opportunity to walk out as far as you did in this vid.
    I reckon this sounds like a newbie question, but I’m a newb to Florida gulf coast surf fishing, so guilty as charged. Lol.
    Is possible to walk out 100-200 feet, or far enough to cast to deeper water, perhaps even getting near the reefs?
    Great channel! I’m subscribed!

      It all depends on where you are at and what the storms have done to the sand. The closest fishing reef is a mile off the beach in 55 feet of water so thats a no go, lol. At low tide in some spots its possible to wade out far enough to cast almost to the second sand bar. The beach is always changing so no way to know until you get here. Thanks for watching!

    Can you also use a sabiki to catch bait?

    • @TheLawlessTide
      @TheLawlessTide  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I use a stabilizer to catch bait all the time offshore and at the pier.

    What are your thoughts on cut ladyfish for bait?

    • @TheLawlessTide
      @TheLawlessTide  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      One of the best baits for sharks, especially on cast outs.

      @@TheLawlessTide Awesome! I’m just getting into surf fishing for shark. Would a Penn battle 6000 reel with 9’ MH rod be sufficient or should I go up in size? Also what pound braid would you recommend? Thanks!

    • @TheLawlessTide
      @TheLawlessTide  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@austinpayne745 I would recommend a heavy rod. But a MH will work you just have to know everything has its limitations. I use a Penn slammer 7500 and that has worked great for me. I'm sure a 6000 will be ok too, just a little less drag. I use 60lb braid on my shark cast outs. Good luck in your new fishing adventures!

    Do you catch more sharks throwing live bait into the surf or kayaking a bait out. I’m staying on gulf shores drive in a few weeks and have dropped baits from a kayak and caught sharks there, but I’ve never tried the live baiting you do in some of your videos. Thanks

    • @TheLawlessTide
      @TheLawlessTide  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That mainly works when blacktops and spinners are around. I like to drop baits with the kayak and throw out a live bait on a cast out just so I have something closer.

    • @benlee7548
      @benlee7548 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TheLawlessTide thanks man. Is it best to drop it in the trough between the 2nd and 3rd Sandbar or after the 3rd. I have about 300 yards of braid on my reel.

    • @TheLawlessTide
      @TheLawlessTide  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You never know man. That’s why I always run all my baits at different distances.

      @@TheLawlessTide really appreciate all this information. Last question, how fast do crabs and other smaller fish pick at the bait until I need to change it out, if at all. Thanks
