These are actually HUGE buffs to Swain overall, his E change was nothing like I thought it would be, but seeing it in action makes it seem so smooth. And for the nerfs to healing, I don’t mind it as much as I thought I would. He’s still a drain tank, more consistent, albeit less drainy.
He is still a drain tank, his R healing also now scales with bonus health, making his HP stacks actually useful on him now and opens him up to legit tank sustain builds
only thing i dont like is how the R healing is super gutted, but overall he is more consistent and hitting more e's means more health. I think overall he will just be a bit better. The ult cd is kinda bad, and relies on you being near enemies to make the CD go lower since the cd is lowered on activation now. I wish they made the first demonflare castable instantly, instead of 2 seconds. or atlesat 1 second ?
The ult cooldown doesn't matter that much to be honest. 120sec seems long but that means you have roughly 1 ult available in between objective timers which is when you're going to want to use it anyway. Basically the higher you climb and the more determined skirmish timings get, the less impact it will have. Yeah sure some games with constant fighting it will feel a bit bad but most of the time you shouldn't feel it.
Oh man i was wondering about the reduced CD to E while in Ult... I couldn't find it in the tooltips of the abilities but didn't want to believe it was removed until I was told it was XD
I know its dumb but ngl It would be cool to see heartsteel swain with 900hp from that item, +- 1000 stackedhp, +- 1000hp from passive stacks that should be easier to get now, %hp increase from overgrowth, followed by jak rylais, riftmaker, jaksho/spirit visage/zhonya. Healing on ult would be massive, also due to improved mana costs I wonder if we can try to go Pom only for mana
Agreed that the healing appears to be very low from the numbers you’ve shown - it makes him easier to balance but I do think it dilutes his uniqueness/drain tank fantasy. Also agreed with the other commenters that expect E to be nerfed before long…we have all gotten VERY good with the old E and playing against swain is going to feel very bad. Overall I’d like to express my appreciation to phreak and team as I do believe they put in a lot of effort to make these changes meaningful.
i could easily see these changes leading to a new full AP build, something like electrocute primary with first 3 items being malignance, shadowflame, and rabadon's
I like the speed on E, but the large magnetic hitbox is outrageous. I hope this gets changed in live. I take pride in being a sniper with E, now it looks brainless.
missed opprtunity to give some ult cooldown refund depending on how long and how many enemies you drain. Also demon flare can have this treatment, make it that if you hit 3 enemies with demon flare it refund you like 3 seconds or something like that
no, then you have instant demonflares with enough haste. thats gonna put swain on the ban lists. and then everyone is gonna start playing swain and hes gonna get nerfed back to this shit state he is now. be thankful he even got blessed with these buffs.
the ult is supposed to be nerfed but the base healing went up from 20 to 45 with AP scaling going down by 4%, this makes the AP breakpoint to be about 600+ AP, we rarly get get to that high AP so unless im missing somethig this seems like a buff? ofc the cooldown is a nerf
The AP scaling was nerfed from 18 to 5%, that is MASSIVE, just do the math how much bonus HP you would need to make up for that, it's depressing honestly

I love this so far. I know he felt like he relied on his ult so much, but I was hoping they would lean into that aspect a bit more, maybe heal him per enemy hit with a demon flare. But this is just as good if not better.
Massive Ult Nerf, Massive Passive nerf, Q Adjusted (10% more damage vs range, 10% less for melee), W Adjusted, E buffed/Adjusted (Really fast e2, damage now is all on the explosion effect). I'm not liking these changes tbh, unless they add more health scaling on his ability's or make him more tanky he's not a drain tank anymore. The Multiple Demon flares looks good at first compared to a better drain but if you think about it its just way worse.
Is it even possible to miss E anymore? The hitbox looks super forgiving now. Related, it's a lot harder to see the VFX of E now that it moves so fast on the return, which is a shame, because the visual of a grasping hand pulling you back is really cool and now you blink and you'll miss it.
Be sure to make a support item guide too. with so much support swain players I'm sure it will be smart to cover that. (me a sup main might incorporate swain in my champ pool)

yup, turns out they didnt really change anything. E is faster and ult now has multiple demon flares, was expecting a return to old e or toggle ult but im just happy they touched him at all
@extravirginoliveoil2012 As it stands the R cooldown will start when it's activated, they will certainly change it to where the cooldown starts when the ability ends (like it is now)
Tbh I'm not that fan of this rework. I wished for more tanky rather than more DMG. Yes the ultimate idea is so good. My idea of the E rework is that where your press E a red line appear for 0.5s (or something) and then summon the hand and you can pull. Again it's personal thought

If I’m not mistaken from the wording in the abilities - E and ult changes might mean we no longer get the shorter E cooldown while ult is active. Is this the case in PBE now or is the E cooldown while in ultimate still present?
FIRST Edit: the changes look pretty nice from what I've seen. I think the ult drain healing could stand to be better but I'm very happy with the ratio increases on his kit. W is ultimately best as a one-point wonder, especially with E getting some very nice damage.

Tank swain will definitely be more interesting with nerfed ap scaling, higher base damage, and multiple ult flares.

I like these changes. You'll probably start running cosmic instead of rylai for more demonflares and sticking onto targets, which is nice

The Q scaling buff looks really nice. Swain will do better into difficult matchups like Hwei.
