Are parents naming babies after Embid, Tatum, Joker? I'd call that legacy, as much as rings, a marker of superstardom. Because fans don't just appreciate Curry as a hooper, they want to BE Stephen Curry in life. Be LeBron James and Kobe Bryant. Be Serena and Ronaldo and Federer, who will probably remain tennis's biggest superstar long after Djokovic surpasses his records -- because Djokovic, arguably more deserving, isn't Roger! Meh , she’s right . Show a picture of Jason Tatum to a random person on the street . They probably won’t know who he is unless they’re an NBA fan . Now , show that same person steph or lebron , they will know , regardless of if they follow the NBA . Superstars are more than just elite hoopers . Is Trent Williams a superstar (NFL) ? I mean , he’s elite and the best o lineman in the NFL . We all know the answer , NO . Because as good as he is , no one knows who that mofo is . If y’all wanna crown Tatum , crown his ass . But at the end of the day he’s a star , not a superstar .
I agree with Malika. We throw the label of superstar around much too casually. Jayson Tatum is a star, but not a superstar yet. He's NOWHERE near the level of prime time LeBron or KD.
Stupid word play and a waste of brain cells. A better question is if opposing teams sit down and try to figure out how to take away something from his game because they know they can't stop him completely.
The thing is, I agree with her because most superstars today aren’t true superstar talent the commissioner and the previous commissioner made the game easier for financial gain less defense less physicality ignore basic rules, like traveling and palming the ball so that players can score more and people who don’t like basketball will now be attracted to a streetball like atmosphere. There is a video that shows the amount of Traveling that is not called example LeBron is allowed to take five steps Ja Morant carries or palms the ball Every time he makes a move.
I'm not a Tatum fan or even a Boston fan, but holy shit, this is such a weak take. He's not a superstar? Are you even watching the game. The man's one of the best in the NBA and has proved time and again, that he's a problem for any team. Tatum is future HOF. So your point is blurred. However their is a tier below the levels she mentioned with Steph, Giannis , etc. Tatum would indeed be on the next tier with Kawhi, Harden, Embiid, Towns, Young and Ja. Tatum has had several head scratching performances in key situations that make you question his leadership.
The best litmus for “superstar” is if your grandma, who doesn’t watch basketball, knows who the player is. I think Tatum is a king, but the casual fan or a citizen in another country has no idea who he is. But guess who they do know? Steph, Lebron, KD

It's a galaxy-class pop culture phenomenon, a global merch brand, a spellbinding crazy mad love thing that to millions makes you an idol, a myth, a drug. And Tatum isn't Steph . . . yet. Based on X Factor, Ja Morant is probably closer.
Hell yeah the dude is a super star. every time I watch him I find myself saying dam, I didn't know he could do that, and that, and that. dudes incredible.
What a truly horrendous take. Glad they called her out. Tatum is a superstar, anyone who says otherwise is a casual.
she did say superstars are those that are even appreciated by the casuals
Your comment is gatekeeping
Haha 😄 🤣 she is right and Tatum came out and said he wasn't that what everyone is tagging him as HE DOESN'T BELIEVE HE'S THERE YET
She’s bugging, Tatum isn’t top 10 but he’s definitely a Superstar
My question is if your not top ten how are you superstar
Not after these finals...
@@BePatientSeeLove There’s more than 10 Superstars in the NBA, causal fan logic is trash
Tate is 1st team All NBA, THAT’S TOP FIVE!
Nah he definitely top ten
Rj is hilarious
I’m a laker fan and even I can admit Jason Tatum is a superstar
Are you from LA?
We hate out of towners here in LA. Especially fake LAker fans that are not from here.
A complete nobody talking down Tatum, one of the best players in the league. That should be the only "shock" in this discussion
Malika feels important because her husband is a white Jewish NBA reporter
her saying yes and sure to richard dissmamtleing her point for the whole time would get me so heated
Then again, finding out about Malikas past, she probably just doesn't like him as a person, so she has to shit on his skill on the court.
man they need Rachel back
Reporters who never play basketball should not be allowed to talk basketball… she looked like she never been to a gym… 🤦♂️
Ha Zach sounding like tucker when he’s baffled 😂
He's already there. And the guys who PLAYED are disagreeing with you.
bruh arguing with the opposite sex is a waste of time
LOL this just proves she doesn't know basketball. Tatum is definitely 100% a superstar, no doubt about it
Fr. She’s a bonehead.
He’s not nowhere near a superstar he himself says he’s not a superstar he doesn’t even have confidence stop pushing for ur favorite players lol..he nowhere near that
Who the helll is she??
so Embiid was a Superstar during this convo while she says Tatum isnt...even though every year Jayson Tatum sends Embid on vacation early....
Well i wonder what Tatum thinks about her “reporting” on a sport she knows obviously little about…….the longer she speaks the more she exposes her ignorance
He’s not a superstar
He’s also not top 10 in the league. I swear people add anyone in the top 10 every other week.
@@Akadehmix he was first team all nba watch basketball
@@Hithereitsme32 and?
@@Akadehmix and name ten better players right now
@@Hithereitsme32 curry, durant, embid, jokic, gannis, kyrie, lebron, davis, morant, lillard, and i didnt even have to try
Anyone who says Tatum isn't a superstar clearly doesn't watch basketball
Bruh this guy put himself in convo just chiming in with “nah malika ur wrong!” every 3 minutes lmao
“ just because you’re a future Hall of Famer, doesn’t mean you’re a superstar “
🤦🏿♂️ bro you just had a Malika moment
She should go do like weather somewhere def not sports
Super Star. 💯% And who is she, someone that got lucky getting this job, with a seriously inflated opinion. The arrogance to say Tatum is not a Super Star.
I think she has a point some people believe there’s only a few built like that i miss when the best player used to guard the best player on the opposing team and when guys would go off d rose 47 kyrie 39 the playoffs it’s like one team hot other cold you don’t see that no more
I miss Rachel, people only go out and say things to be different and controversial.
I agree with her for a change. A star for sure
Move her to analyze the wnba
Tatum is future HOF. So your point is blurred. However their is a tier below the levels she mentioned with Steph, Giannis , etc. Tatum would indeed be on the next tier with Kawhi, Harden, Embiid, Towns, Young and Ja. Tatum has had several head scratching performances in key situations that make you question his leadership.
shes doing the eye test…shes basing her takes on her opinion not on numbers which are facts…in other words shes just not a fan of tatum
I'm a die hard Jason Tatum fan. When he doesn't shoot well he pass rebound and play defense. He is a superstars in my eyes.
Jayson Tatum has been a SuperStar for years now.. "What are we talkin about man" in my Russel Westbrook voice
This is why we need athletes commentary
Tatum is a star ⭐️ he got his own signature shoe from Jordan brand 😂
Did she say people like LeBron, Curry and Jokic are only knocking on the door to stardom???
Ngl, I can somewhat agree with Andrews. The media is soooo quick to throw the star/superstar label upon athletes
Did she even play the game of basketball?
She say Jokic "knocking on the door" post winning the MVP. Yeah, Tatum also is a superstar, because he is the #1 option on a top team...
I personally agree... Tatum isn't a super. Scoring is becoming a new norm , so scoring isnt really a standard for superstar anymore.
I think Jalen Brown is more of a superstar than Tatum
I agree, brown is consistently outplayed tatum. He isn’t the best player on his team every night a majority of the time
The best litmus for “superstar” is if your grandma, who doesn’t watch basketball, knows who the player is. I think Tatum is a king, but the casual fan or a citizen in another country has no idea who he is. But guess who they do know? Steph, Lebron, KD
I haven't watched ESPN for years, and after watching this, I'm glad I haven't. It sounds like more non-athletes are giving opinions on athletes like they are the authority.
She said kwahi and kd were superstars but didn’t even mention Giannis, that says it all
1:51 Richard is very good at nuking Malika when she gets on his nerves without breaking the tone of the conversation.
She got this job because she’s looks to talk men down. Black men at that.
Not a Malika fan but I have to agree. He has superstar talent but is not consistent and tends to disappear when you need him to be a superstar
Richard Jefferson quietly and irritatingly waiting for his turn is 😂
