Ray, for the pad repairs in the remote, Ive also used rear - window -heater repair compound from automotive stores, it works very good as well. Just let it dry throughly before reassembly... Keep up the great videos!

That's brilliant! Locally available to boot.
See, this is why I always read the comments. There's always more to learn.

On the balance controls ... Your grumble is totally valid.
The balance control has vanished on most of today's equipment. It's no great loss unless you have uneven hearing or speaker placement problems. I have balance control in the software of my system and the only time I ever use it is when comparing speakers.
The "swing ground" method most amp manufacturers use is literally just another point of failure and it tends to fail up, with one channel much louder than the other. It can also lead to monophonic mixing of the two channels if the ground pin goes bogus on you.
But, in some of the better gear they use a "contra-volume" arrangement that has a two chamber, linear, pot with a centre detent. In this case it is hooked up so that as you turn the shaft you are actually turning one channel up while you turn the other one down... These work well and far as I can tell they're just as reliable as tone control pots (which is what they're using) and volume controls.
What I really miss in modern equipment is the loudness switch. I'm not a loud listener. I like my music best at 'conversational levels" where I can speak over it if I need to. That little kick of extra bass at lower levels would really help me enjoy the music more. I went through a ton of trouble figuring out how to add an EQ in the software for just that reason...

ahhhh, now i see the reason for your balance control poll😊
i feel your pain on a clean bench. after i finish a project, it often takes as long to clean the bench as to do a repair.😂
    thanks for the video ray.

Spot on about the reason for the poll, Joseph!
Like I said in the video, I'm just not a neat person. My desk at work is a fire hazard. My home office/man cave has all the flair and ambience of a roadside dump.
Clutter doesn't faze me, but two thing I cannot abide are dirty kitchens and bathrooms. So they stay clean. Everything else looks like a bomb hit it. 😁

I have never been able to figure out why it takes literally every tool I own to change the external AC fuse on a piece of equipment... I swear some of them just tag along for the ride... it's embarrassing.

I guess it's just Murphy's Law at work, but I swear that whatever I need to access was the part they built the entire unit around. 😁@@Douglas_Blake_579

You can usually deduce the assembly order from having to fix something. It is an unwritten law that the most failure prone parts are always the first thing they install.

I noticed that control board has a number of bare wire jumpers on it. I've been caught more than once on them getting pushed aside, moved or even touching right out of the factory.
I'm sure you checked that... but didn't mention it. Maybe it will help some of your viewers.
Cheers Ray ... another great video.

Don't be so sure I checked for bare jumpers. It's a great point to make, and considering that the unit took a hit to the faceplate it could vey well be the issue. Looks like it's getting disassembled again!
Thanks Douglas! This is just one more reason that I read all the comments. Viewers like you catch things I miss or just space out on.

Douglas, there were no jumpers touching. Damn good suggestion though!

      That's good news.
I really hate it when I see 3 and 4 inch long pieces of bare wire running along a circuit board. They're shorts just waiting to happen... especially after we get in there with our probes and push them aside to take a measurement or two.

Wilfredo, there's an old office joke that states " a clean desk is a sign of a sick mind". I feel that the same applies to a working bench!
