    I look forward to learning how you build your shed roof out of PV panels. I replaced my patio roof wit PV panels, but I still have gaps, so its not rainproof. Great idea and if your panels have airflow under them, they will be cooler and produce more😊

    Subscribed! AMAZING information, easy to understand and well presented, and may I say: THANK YOU for not having any music in the background! I had TWENTY videos queued and didn't have to go any further than YOUR channel!! We are in FLORIDA and need to install backup power with plans for going "off grid" as soon as we can. Thanks again!

    just to add my 2 cent, buying used panels have been great for me so far. cheap and they output the same rated power as if they were new, hot weather performance is great too. doesn't drop off much . its a cost effective way to go. if your starting out. just check them out for any cracks if possible before buying, that depends on your situation, i found someone locally so i was able to check them all out and pick the ones i wanted, i was told they used to power a Walgreen's for 8 years. now they serve me well!

    The breaker size should be at least 125% larger than the load. In other words the the load should not be more than 80% of the breaker rating. So in your case with a 50 amp load the breaker should be bigger than 62.5 amps. This would bring you to a 70 amp breaker. Then you would size the wire for 70 amps.

      Your breaker is to protect your wires. This is not a motor control center. In industrial settings yes you can fuse or have a breaker at 125% but your wire size is your determining factor for a breaker or fusing.

    • @ryanwelsch9384

      @@pgogel8974 Exactly. The wire size and breaker rating are chosen based on the intended load.

    I just bought a 2011 Nissan Leaf and found out that Albuquerque has an EV rate of $0.031 between 10:00 PM and 5:00 AM with a special program. That car may be worth much more now, if I charge this system at night and use batteries all day. Regular "Time-of-Day" rates are over $0.04 on off peak hours. The off peak hours are greater than the 7 hours of EV rate, but if I can get all I need in 7 hours, the EV rate is a huge benefit that I had not foreseen.
    My new $1200, 30 mile range Leaf, is actually going to save me more than I could have imagined. Making it almost a free car that gives me cheap electric rates for my whole home. As long as it is registered to this address, I qualify for the EV rate.

    • @evanhil02
      @evanhil02 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Your off-peak rate is still a great deal! But even if you charge your 24-kwh Leaf fully every night on the EV rate and then use it all, you're really not saving much. 24 x $0.009 = 0.216, at per year, that's only $78.84. And you can't actually use your car as a car. What's your peak rate? The numbers would improve, but I can't imagine they'd change enough to make it worth it.

    If you want to ground mount solar panels, they make plastic mounts that you fill with dirt or rocks to hold them down, then mount the panels on the mounts. This is a great, non-permanent solar panel system if you have sunny ground that can be used for panels.

    To wire off your mains safely, just pull your meter and that disconnects the whole house. Just make sure you have adequate battery powered lighting to do your work until you are ready to plug the meter back in. Take your time and recheck all your connections before powering back up and always make safety your #1 priority. You can do this.

    I’m really excited about watching your videos, I have off grid cabin project and this looks like such a great option, thought I would be paying some contractor $20,000, great to think I can do myself I have nice small building that can house equipment and has south facing roofing with good sun access. The question I have is that it’s in Michigan were winters are very cold, how do I keep batteries warm while charging to not damage them? I could try to insulate the small building that will house the equipment, with temperature controlled space heater, but I’m hoping there is better off-grid battery heating option.

    May I recommend something like the emporium vue to do a power audit on your whole house and different breakers like the big items. This can later be transferred to your sub panel that you install to monitor how much individual breakers are doing for certain items to go with your over all usage logs from the battery/solar and inverter logs.

    Hope you don’t have a warranty claim with Big. I’ve had their batteries in our rig for four years and had to do a claim on the batteries once a year for failed cells and bms’s. This last time, they took 2 months to resolve my issue and ended up replacing may batteries completely BUT knowing I was in a pinch, they used my situation as a way to reduce my battery sized and give me less battery than I had. All to save them $500
    I will never recommend their products again… which is sad, because I install these systems as a professional

    I'm getting ready to start a new home which will be facing south and probably will not be using any solar panels so, if I use this configuration for powering my air conditioner would I have any savings in power usage since the batteries are being charged by the grid? Or would this only serve as a backup power for the air conditioner during a power outage? By the way I will only have electric so the unit is also a heat pump for my winter heat.

      I assume you mean the battery? I don't think the battery interfaces with the house at all. It interfaces with the inverter via the cat cable and the settings on the inverter. If my understanding is right their are several battery options that work with this inverter. This is inverter is actually sold as a kit of 14KW of Solar, EG4 18kpv inverter, with a EG4 14.3KWH battery on the Santan website. would still have to source a racking system for the solar though. I imagine they used that battery because they are working with big battery. They probably got the battery for free or are getting a % of the sales from people who use the 5% savings code. Also they mention in the video that big battery is a US company and they want to support them over the Chinese company.
