Suggestion for James pertaining to the thumbnail - you can take 2 still shots of the both of you and cut out one or the other, then splice them together. Since the video's divided in half already, it should be pretty easy. That way you aren't looking for a good moment for both of you. You can look for one moment for you and one for Jessica.

You guys rock. Super helpful -- all of your videos. Thanks!

Thank you so much for these videos. It might be strange, but I find them sort of soothing :-) I think it`s because it just shines through that you take every aspiring writer serious, and you`re always cheerful and nice.
I have two topics, I would love if you would talk about in future videos.
    1. POV. Do agents/readers prefer one POV over others? Is third person better than first, or does it depend on the genre?
    2. Language. Would you as agents accept a story written in British English, or does it have to be American English? Should stories in BrE only be queried to UK agents?
    Thanks :-)
    Kind regards, Louise

      Louise,
I'm coming at this from a reader/writer perspective, not an agent one, but the PoV (and also tense) question varies widely by genre and category. For example YA often goes with first person, and usually (though not always) a single PoV character. Adult fantasy and SF usually favors third person and is frequently multi-PoV (even more so for fantasy).
I would say read widely in your chosen category/genre to know the conventions.

      @@deroshkin Hi Deroshkin,
Thank you for your reply. My problem is that I can find brilliant examples of both first and third person POV in my genre (cont. romance), and can write both too. I`m wondering if one of them would give me an edge with agents when it comes to querying. Every little helps :-)
      Kind regards, Louise

I’ve been querying since last year but stopped for December and January, but I’m going to start up again. If I resubmit it usually a different story 🙂

Just curious but I had a career other than writing and I wrote as a Hobby. I write books that I want to read and for friends, kid, and family. I have written a lot of books but never thought about publishing them until recently when I started getting a lot of requests from people outside of my circle of friends. Now I am re editing and polishing books for submission. Since I write fantasy fiction and science fiction and write because I love to write do you have any advice for transitioning to actually publishing what I have spent decades doing for fun.

I have a similar question to Louise Hanson. I’m an Australian author so I write in UK English. Would it be okay to submit my query and manuscript to a US agent in UK English or would I need to change it to US English?

I have a serious question I’m hoping you can use in a future video.
Is it okay in today’s day in age to write about genders, sexuality, or races other than their own? Or is that considered offensive?

I have an unusual situation. I have queried one book to a few agents. While I was waiting for a response I finished a new novel and have it ready to submit. Should I sub mit the new book to other agents while waiting to here back about the first book I queried or should I set it aside and wait.

Question: let's say you completely retooled your book/query and want to requery it to an agent, do you have to tell them this is a resubmission or can you just resubmit it and hope they don't remember you/your book?

Hi there, Jessica and James. I •guess• my first question to you two would probably be: have •any• aspiring writers, whom may be currently watching your videos/tutorials, ever submit/re-submit any of their manuscripts to •your• agency; and, secondly, I know this may be an obvious question, but do you both actually handle submissions from authors-aspiring and/or otherwise-and if so, what authors/works does your agency prefer to take, look over and accept?
Whenever either of you get the proper chance to, would you please come back to me with an answer, so •I• may get an appropriate idea as of when, where and how to submit and/or resubmit any works (including the story I'm currently working on, "The Competitions") I will be working on over time? Whatever you could possibly do would be most helpful at whatever time is best for you two.
Thank you and have a great and safe weekend/week.

Thank you so much for your response-I •highly• appreciate it, and I hope to use it as wisely as possible.
If I ever have •any• more questions (which I can't help but think I will, lol!), I'll at least try to make it a point to bring them forth to your agency, because it seems you all know what you're talking about.
Anyhow, have a great and safe day, and stay warm 😁

If one has taken feedback from a submission rejection to heart, done major revisions, and wish to submit again to that same agent, what would be the minimum length of time to wait before re-submitting? Obviously, it would be a while, due to the major rewrites. But is there a minimum? Three months? six months?
