d haze1215 I was hoping for some insights in the stories themselves. For example, we know from George RR Martin that some of the info given by the characters in the book may not even be completely accurate. Letting new readers know this could be great!

I would recommend using the appendix at the back of the books for obscure characters. It gets pretty difficult to keep track of the Freys and which Walder is which otherwise.
Yup I have used the appendix in that back as well. So many damn characters lol
@@Dante19883 Most of them aren't that important though. I just read the books without worrying too much about who the really minor characters are, but if they crop up numerous times I try to learn who they are. Mostly it's the case that you only have to know certain minor characters for a short period of time as they're only relevant to one viewpoint character for a section of they're overall character/story arc, like the brotherhood without banners with Arya for example. You don't have to remember who Lem, Anguy, Greenbeard, Jack-be-lucky and Tom Severstreams are after the third book.

For readers who dont read books like that. Read the first book while u rewatch the 1st season. That's how I got my bro hooked on the books. His not a person who reads books like I do, but his making good time on them.
I had the paperbacks for books 1 to 4 and 5 was a hardback edition.

How to read the books?!?! Um, with your eyes open. With glasses if necessary. Oh, and make sure to have proper lighting. You'll go blind if you read in the dark.
Or listen to the audiobooks! (Also reading in low lighting does nothing bad for your eyes that is a myth confirmed by my eye doctor.)

You forgot to mention in the one with 7 books (U.K) that ADWD is also split up into 2 books (1.dreams and dust 2. after the feast). Love this vid, I find it very interesting learning about all the different editions u can get them in.
I have the UK edition they come with a huge map it's beautiful. I also like those leather bound but they seem so small
I have the UK version and I think the map will help, knowing where you are etc...
I remember the first time I tried watching Game of Thrones. I hated it. I couldn’t even get through the first episode. Fast forward to a year later I tried watching it again, and became OBSESSEED! I think I watched the first season in one day.

You should have mentioned the combined reading order of A Feast for Crows and A Dance with Dragons as they are basically one massive book.

This is the video I've been looking for. I don't know why,but I'm somewhat fascinated by book editions. And being equally fascinated with ASOIAF,this video is the bomb! I love the trade paperback version and that's what I'm currently reading,but I think I do want to get the hardback edition just to collect (and perhaps use for my second read through). That being said,I'm 100% with you on trade paperbacks,you just get the best of both worlds in that format.
I was curious,have you held a copy of the UK paperbacks in your hand? They seem to be a size in between the US mass markets and US trades...I was very interested in that edition before finally going with the Bantam trades. Most of the TH-cam reviews on those UK books fail to show us the print,which scared me off a little, because my eyes aren't great either. Anyhow,it is still an attractive set of books.

I read the first 4 books faster then I’ve read any other books I’ve read. They are so good. I showed down soon as I reached the 5th book just cause I knew I was almost done. I’m really hoping Winds of Winter is out very soon.

I have always found the best way to read this, or any other book for that matter, is to start at the top left of the first page and continue, taking breaks as necessary, until I reach the bottom right of the last page 😮

I am just the opposite of most people. For me, every dog-ear and ever crease in the cover is a sign of love between me and the book. I hate pristine books that look like they have never actually been read. I want the book that is well worn with the cover barely attached. i want to know that 50 people have read and loved that book before me. I like that history.
Yeah, I actually can appreciate that. Funny you mentioned that... I remember watching an interview with Harlan Ellison and he said he loves when people show up to his book signings with beat up copies of his books because it shows that someone enjoyed them.

I have a hardback copy of Angels and Demons that is a first edition and it is practically falling apart since I read it 3 times, my wife read it, my mother read it, and 2 of my friends read it. I look at the book and it makes me happy knowing that one single copy of one single book enhanced the lives of 5 people.
The illustrated edition is the best imo

True. You get the illustrations, hard covers and two variants - US (coloured covers) and UK (all black covers).

Had not finished or even read a book since I was forced to in school, but I then picked up the book set of asoif and I’m already onto a clash of kings
also remember, if you're like me and you work long night shifts by yourself the audiobooks are a must, I get through all the books in usually 2 months and I can work at the same time.

I honestly don't understand the difference between the paperbacks and trade paperbacks.
A trade paperback is smaller, and produced with cheap paper.. the trade paperback is the same size as the hardcover but it is a paperback that is produced with better quality material. It’s like the hardcover in every which way except that it’s cover is not hard lol hope this helps

I’m trying to read books about the earlier on history of Westeros... is there any books like that? Or is that what the song of fire and ice series is?? Help.
Hi there Sabrina! Thanks for checking out this video. There are two great books available that deal with the History of Westeros. One is “The World of Ice and Fire.” This books is very useful as it contains the history of Westeros as it was revealed in the books. It is more of a coffee table type book with very beautiful illustrations, but still useful nevertheless. The second is “Fire and Blood” which is George RR Martin’s latest book which deals with the history of house Targaryen. Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions! Cheers!
I find it hard to understand the context of the book without wiki got and a dictionary app. I have an ebook on my phone,so it's easy for me to look up for words that hasn't been used for ages.
So it means that the end in the book will be different from the end in the series ?, I'm in the middle of Season 5 and I hear that Season 7 and 8 are bad
Don’t listen to what other people say. Judge for yourself. I actually liked season 7 and 8. 8 was a bit rushed, but I get why it was that way... they were trying to wrap up the show. The books ending will apparently be similar in the big picture, but very different with respect to details.. enjoy!

the show tie in book art mirrors the dvd box set cover art so season 1 and the 1st book have the same cover and so on
This is only book series I've ever read and said to myself later "damn I wish I would have gotten the hard copy and made notes in the margins".
I got my ASOIAF books second hand and let’s just say they were well read😂 I completely agree that they were produced cheap. I’m thinking of converting them into hard cover.

Damm jus noticed. all the titles start with "A" except the winds of winter.
so fire and blood is basically House of the dragon right
House of The Dragon is based off of a portion of Fire and Blood (that portion being the Dance of Dragons). The book is more of a history book for the Targaryan Dynasty than a fully coherent novel.
Is the ending of the tv show the same as the books?
No one knows yet. Mr. Martin is still trying to finish book 6 of 7

No, the mass market paperbacks don’t have pictures. There is an illustrated edition of the first book you can get, but it costs more. Hope this helps!

I have been in a dilemma about which editions i should pick up just recently. I have the mass market edition of the first book and its just difficult to hold it whenever i read it. I was going to purchase “a clash of kings” in mass market but now after this video, i might get the larger paper back ones. I like it when a book folds open and can be laid down flat. Since these are quite large, it would be more beneficial.
Yes I prefer the TPBs. I know they are a little cumbersome, but they hold up much better than the mass market counterparts and are cheaper than the hardcovers. Happy reading!

I had started by reading a paperback of the first book, and listening to the audiobook along with it because I had a long commute.

Hey, loved the video, cleared things up for me, I'm just wondering how big is the trade paperback size and how about the mass market one, i wanna buy it online but there is a lot of posts that didn't specify the edition, so... Recommendations?
I have first edition paperback copies of A Game of Thrones and A Clash of Kings. My first edition aGoT however is different than the one you pictured. Mine has a picture of Jon and Ghost with Castle Black in the background. I found it in a thrift store and paid 99 cents for it. Those first editions that have the pictures on the cover (artwork by Stephen Yule, I believe) are hard to find. I think they discontinued them after A Feast for Crows. aFfC has a picture of Jamie on his horse and the castle at Riverrun in the background. Pretty sure that one is rare as fuck

I don't understand something: what do you guys do after, for example, you finish all the five books and don't have the sixth one to read? Are you content with waiting for the sixth book's release while you forget the story? I don't think most readers would be satisfied watching the show after that, since it's being said the show doesn't closely follow the story and that there are differences. I would like some suggestions on this, because I am planning to restart the Song of Ice and Fire series and this keeps nagging at me... : (
Maybe you must read the other books if you dont forget the line time for example fire and blood o others
Question...is it better to watch the movies first or read the book’s first? I just bought Game of Thrones first and second season. It might help I’m thinking to visualise the characters, costumes etc better.
I would read the books first for sure. You’ll be able to keep track of the plots and the numerous characters in the show way better that way! That’s just my opinion. Good luck!

The leather coverd ones are smaller then normal and verry soft. If you are considering to buy that box, please watch a review of them on youtube. I did and i am glad i did not buy that box.

How can you tell which edition to buy at amazon? How can I identify the so-called "non-box set trade paperback edition" from just a plain paperback book? Thank you.
If you are purchasing the box set, they will more than likely all be mass market paperbacks. However, if you search the books individually, before you put the book in your cart, you have the option to choose which edition you want from a drop-down menu. 3 editions available are mass market, trade paperback and hardcover. Hope this helps!

what's the best order to read them in? considering it's a series with no prequel, the literal ONLY way to read it would be in publication order. not sure how that merits a 16 minute long video.
i read the whole series up until a feast for crows where i put the book down at around page 400. id like to start reading again from teh first book (it was aroun 2 years since i dropped the books so i want to remember everything). sadly i cant buy the books and my local library has them but theyre in such a bad condition. theyre all missing a lot of pages and some pages just start to fall out when youre reading them. the only good books are always loaned out :(
