My grandpa has one since 2007 with a CVT, it has over 200,000 miles on the odo and it's still running like new, it's surprisingly quite and fun to drive.
These cars were used in rental fleets in my country. Base spec, grey interior, 2.0L auto. Reliable and sold with over 200k kms. I still see them occasionally on the roads.
My grandma has one and it's very reliable, but I've rode in my friends ralliart version and that thing is a beast compared to these. Hope you test drive one!
The good thing about these Lancers is the tuning and modding potential. Sure, they won’t get Evo fast, but as a daily it has the mix of reliabilty, usability and fun.
I remember liking these when they first came out. I even test drove one. It seemed to me to have a large greenhouse on a smaller platform, which I liked. Now i have a Mirage.
They also made the Ralliart, which I like very much. Still FWD but with a 2.4L SOHC Mivec engine with 164hp. Same engine shared with Outlander, Eclipse and Galant.
Oh man. This was my first car. Mine was an 04 in red also with a 5 speed. Lots of memories. IMO that’s not the oem shifter knob. I had mine for over 6 years when I gave it to my dad to use as a commuter. It held up decently well for us. Also, there was a step above performance Ralliart model with something around 160 hp. Wish I had that one at times. Ended up getting a 09 BMW 335i with a 6 speed to replace it. Quite the jump 😂 now the bimmer hangs out in the garage while I drive the family around in the Honda Odyssey.
Mitsubishis are one of the most utilitarian and solid cars on the market... their designs are dated, however they have a character to them and also have a loyal following...
That's a rare car now. These weren't exactly classics so they weren't saved or built to last. Decent looking car that (apart from the woodgrain) isn't pretending to be fancy. The small wheel wells are a throwback. The people across the street used to have one of these and a Saturn wagon so this is one of those macaroni cars. Mitsubishi fills a niche now that Kiyundai has moved upmarket.
Hey Zach! Great video as always! I always hope you'll be out near the northern Illinois Chicago suburb I live in as that way I could thank you in person for the amazing quality videos you put out. Hope you have a good one man!
This is my actual car now. Bought it a year ago from Naperville Auto. Had low miles and drove nice, so I bought it. Now has 75k. Not much power, but love the stick and is a very smooth ride.
It's a somewhat rare, oddball economy car. That car looks like it has 161k on the clock not just 61k. Are you sure that odometer is working?😆 It would make a FANTASTIC first car. Doesn't look like its missing anything, it's just a bit worn.
I have an Evo X and also own a 06 Lancer Es for daily driven 100k+ miles on it and the interior is in perfect shape, not faded materials like the one in the video.
The comfort level reminds me to much of my old 2000 Nissan Sentra gxe you didn't want to go on long trips if wanted to walk correctly after exiting the car 🤣🤣🤣🤣 back breaker.
I own one and loves it, swaped few things exterior and interior evo 8 steering wheel+cluster my interior is black so its fits well, Faceift 06 ralliart exterior bumpers lights Great car, wish it had more hp but overall i like it
My dad had an '04 Lancer GLX with the 4G13 and 4 speed auto. Yes the engine is quite underpowered, around 90 hp iirc and the transmission was fine and reliable, very smooth shifts but gear ratios are too long and far apart imo. Side note I never actually liked the gear ratios of 4 speed autos regardless of car make and model. Having long gears attached to an engine with no torque is just bad imo. But that lancer was econmical at 5l/100 km and was very reliable minus the mandatory 5k km oil changes. The handling feel, ride quality, practicality and styling of this gen lancer was what I actually liked though and the next gen (the last gen which I have) kept these aspects and improved on the other bits of the older gen lancer.
I feel like you could still say you wish they made a sporty version. But more like a semi sporty version. Like the Civic SI. Sportier then the regular but nit as sporty as the type r.
Whoever owned that car beat the hell out of that interior. I got mine and the interior is still very clean with no sun fade. all the cloth though is very susceptible to dirtyness.
They call that "cedia" in philippines. I remember when I was a kid, my relatives had 2 of these. Both of them are gone now (sold). My relatives replaced it with honda mobilio.
Men you should drive a Lancer GL, those come with a 1.3 or 1.6 anemic engines, that's the opposite end of an Evo 🤣 Not sure if they made it to the US, think they were sold as mirages
In the case of this exact lancer is that it was poorly maintaned because my 06 lancer has 187k miles and the original interior was way better than that👀
The best thing about this channel is that you give an honest review of cars that most people don't care about, completely free of snobbery.
My mom used to have one for a couple years before it got scrapped. Not an overly flashy car but this review sure did bring back a ton of nostalgia
Very reliable and underrated cars. 96 Galant owner here

US market? Or overseas, I ask because these in the US didn't have the cvt.
@@blue_lancer_es Overseas. This didn't come with a CVT in the U.S?
@@rapide12345 no. Just manual and 4 speed aut
1:45 really like the pizza box tumbleweed in the background lol
And again at 8:00 describing the engine power

Thank you for showing these type of cars that nobody reviews. I love them. Keep it up.
Always liked these
Me too. Mitsubishi should not exist in the US anymore.
@@brianlee9233 Without the OEM wing, the design of this car seems incomplete.

Get the ralliart version of this, great first car and daily driver.

I had a 2002 mirage for years
The greenhouse on the lancer is pretty big

The front grill looks very similar to the 2000-2002 Pontiac Sunfire.

"These weren't exactly classic so they weren't saved or built to last" --- that really doesn't make any sense
Very cool to see one of these reviewed i have an 06 oz rally edition it’s not bad it’s my first car

You should review the Ralliart spec!
i was sold the moment it passed the bfb test
at $6k asking price this is a perfect 1st time driver car..

This is the cheap compact car. The interior doesn't hold up because its cheaply made
Enjoy your videos. Would you consider reviewing a 91-96 Nissan SER if available? Thanks
Hey not sure if you done this review but I always wanted to see a review of the later models of the lancer es
Yo! Finally a quality car in this joint. 🤣😅
I would really like a car like this, other than cars of this age don't all have side airbags or the same safety
I feel like you could still say you wish they made a sporty version. But more like a semi sporty version. Like the Civic SI. Sportier then the regular but nit as sporty as the type r.
Ralliart and oz rallies are that
@bl4k4tt84 OH yeah I forgot about those models. There was an OZ Wheels one that was always parked at my former church
Funnily enough I only know of this gen of lancer because of nfs ug1
Great Review! 😊

What about 4g93 engine
Hey Zack I got a question, When you review cars from dealerships That don't have a plate on them do you get a temporary dealer plate?
Yes! Dealers give me a plate but I usually remove it for pictures since it’s a very ugly bright green.

Any cheap exterior mods recommendations?
Euro headlights and aftermarket grill

Try to buy it you won’t regret it don’t offer no more then 2200 though if it has more then 140k
