    Weld a nut or a hex head bold onto that torx head. It'll come out if the welds hold plus the heat from the weld helps

      I’ll have to try that next time. I knew that plate on the back side pops out so figured drilling would be OK.

    Definitely a labor of love! I'm impressed how much you were able to get that kink out. Good job, Josh!

      It sure it! And I’m failing happy with how it turned out. Thanks Dallas!

    Ian Johnson did a video on cutting wheel openings. He tied a string around the axle tube and then tied it around the plazma torch at the length he wanted. That way he could cut that curve by just keeping the string pulled tight.

      Ian knows best!

      I’ll have to find that video. I was wondering if something like that would work too. 😆

    Get yourself a set of bolt extractor bits. All you need to do is drill a pilot hole in the center of the bolt and hit it with the extractor. Comes right out. 👍 19:10 those corners didn’t come with backing plates for the inside of the tub? I run Savvy corners with 3/8” backing plates and T-slot channels overtop. Body is super straight.

    You could lay something like a 2x4 on top of the tire and maybe tape the plasma torch to it to ride along if you wanted it cut closer to the height of the tire.

      @Ohio_offroad_adventures  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Never thought of doing that one! I do think something like that will work.

      It should get ya in the ball park then maybe clean the edges with a grinder or something.

    Sheet metal work is always so much harder to do then I have thought going into it. Nice way to keep at it

      Thanks? And Same here, definitely time consuming. But luckily it’s a Jeep so it doesn’t need to be perfect! 😆

    I use Oxygen and acetylene to get those bolts out. Heat the head cherry red and put a ratchet on and work it back and forth. Excellent video guys thank you for the great content I appreciate it.

      Thanks man! And we had the mapp gas on those bolt for a while. But no luck. Just happy I don’t have to reuse that bolt we drilled out. 😂

      That's how I got windshield bolts out of my project YJ build

    We’ve also had to drill those tailgate bolts out. I think that’s the best way.

    • @Ohio_offroad_adventures
      @Ohio_offroad_adventures  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Agreed man. I always have the same trouble with the windshield bolts on the TJs too.

    Doing mine had to make 5 trips to harbor freight ended up using the Red wrench and torched out the back side of the bolt
    The icon torx bits work the best

    • @Ohio_offroad_adventures
      @Ohio_offroad_adventures  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Wow! At least we only had to 2trips. 😆. I might have to get the icon set next time.

    The only Torx bits I will only ever buy or use are snap on. They are the only ones I have found that don’t shatter or round on first use

      @Ohio_offroad_adventures  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I might have to spend the money and get those ones. I have broken so many of the harbor freight ones. 😢

    Those are some crazy wide axles. The body is inside the tires.

    • @Ohio_offroad_adventures
      @Ohio_offroad_adventures  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Absolutely man. 72.5” wide axles on a narrow TJ tub. The wheels are also 3.5” backspace so it pushes the tires out more. 😆

  • @jamietallman8396
    @jamietallman8396 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Nothing would have gotten that bolt out. When we have a similar problem, we weld a grade 8 nut to the bolt and use a socket. It usually works good. Yeah you can tie to the axle the the plasma to make a perfect arc for the wheel well. It's time consuming but the end result will be amazing. Til next time!

    • @Ohio_offroad_adventures
      @Ohio_offroad_adventures  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I’ll definitely have to try that next time!! And seems like the best way is to tie a string on the plasma to get the right radius. So hopefully I’ll be getting to that in the next couple days! Thanks you for watching!

    • @Ohio_offroad_adventures
      @Ohio_offroad_adventures  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I’ll have to get those next time. Normally the Pittsburgh stuff has been working out well for us. Well the wrenches and sockets do. The torxs bits suck. Lol. I might have to upgrade to the icon stuff soon.

    Half inch drive impact on a T40??? Those tools didn't stand a chance.

    • @Ohio_offroad_adventures
      @Ohio_offroad_adventures  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      But the one was specifically for 1/2” impacts. 😂. I started breaking the one with just the breaker bar too. That bolt was just very well seize in there.

    Hey there. I just found your channel. I'm in northeast Ohio too. I have a 2011 Xterra that's pretty much stock. I have some rock rails that I'm going to install soon. I'd love to meet up with you all and hit some scenic backroads and easy trails.
    Do you have any contact info?

    • @Ohio_offroad_adventures
      @Ohio_offroad_adventures  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Awesome! And sadly there aren’t very many scenic trails near us. But we do go to the local park “Southington Offroad park” a few times a year. Probably the best way to reach me is on Instagram at “ohio_offroad_adventures” or just on my personal Facebook “Joshua Smail”
