  • Calamari Inkantation may as well be the most important song in Splatoon lore. It's everywhere in the games and it's actually referenced in dialouge. So the first Splatoon lore video is about one of, if not THE most important song in the game.

    Nice video! And also, about the whole Octolings becoming good from the Inkantation thing, my theory is basically that Dj. Octavio uses his music to brainwash Octarians. That’s why there’s always background music playing in the Hero Mode stages (Octo Expansion has Dedf1sh music playing instead, since the Octarians there are sanitized rather than brainwashed). This brainwashing effect strangely only seems to work on Octarians, since he had to physically put hypnoshades on Callie to control her. Basically, the Inkantation acts as an antidote to this brainwashing. If an Octarian such as Marina or Agent 8 hear it, the song overpowers that of Octavio’s and frees them from his mind-control. This would also explain why it doesn’t make Octavio himself good and he just jumps around, since he’s not being brainwashed but actually doing the brainwashing. Also a bit of a side note, but the likely reason why S2 had an outbreak of Octolings in Inkopolis was because of the final boss. S1 Octavio messed up the fight with Agent 3 and got several Octarians (like Marina) within hearing range of the Inkantation, freeing them. In S2 Octavio tried to frame the fight as a concert featuring the Squid Sisters, but it failed again and this time he ended up broadcasting the Inkantation to potentially thousands of Octarians, explaining the outbreak of them into inkling culture.

      I don't think it's DJ Octavio mind controlling them, and I don't think Calamari Inkantation has the inherent ability to break mind control. I believe Octolings are brainwashed in a more realistic sense, as in they were raised and taught that inklings are bad and evil, as Inklings drove them underground after the war. However, in history, there are no "Good guys" or "Bad guys" in wars, no side is inherently righteous. The inklings have their faults and so do the Octolings. I believe the Inkantation gives Octolings an interest and appreciation of Inkling culture, causing some to change their ways. The direct quote of the scroll is "Music heads are still buzzing over that legendary underground show two years ago. Anyone lucky enough to catch DJ Octavio's opening set and the Squid Sisters headlining had their minds blown and their lives changed that night." "Minds Blown" can be taken literally, as in that they were freed from mind control, however in the scroll the Octolings are all exited and cheering, just enjoying themselves. If they truly were being controlled they would probably take the fight to Octavio in retaliation upon waking up. Again I feel like the song just made them open up, rather than free them from any sort of manipulation. As for why Callie was freed, she has major emotional ties to the song, so it kinda makes sense. This is all just my take on it though.

      @@sagehanson190 I agree with you too. I forgot who said this, but someone said that the songs that DJ Octavio make are songs that are meant to motivate the Octarians and Octolings. Songs for them to march to because Octarians are naturally diligent and like order in everything. And regarding the shades that the Octolings wear, it’s never mentioned that they hypnotize them, instead it’s sort of like Tony Stark’s helmet where it helps him out in battle and such. Maybe with aim and prediction, so yeah. The only person (or inkling) Octavio has ever brainwashed was Callie, and even then Callie put on the shades a second time because they looked fresh😭

    Splatoon 3 spoilers
    After reading the Alterna logs, I believe that the Calamari Inkantation are humanity's desires in a musical form that became absorbed by Alterna's crystals, or it was a popular song sung by the Alternians in gerneral. Then when those crystals became absorbed by the sea-life, the song essentially became etched into their DNA, like what one of the Splatoon 1 sunken scrolls says. It likely doesn't just affect Inklings and Octolings, since Little Buddy can be heard singing it.
    And/or Maybe the original human composer of the Inkantation made it as a “thank you” for the sea-life inside the cavern, which allowed humanity to continue to thrive after the flood, like how Inklings sing it as a way to show respect and celebrate the bounty of the sea.
    Humanity's desire was to see the skies, and the sea creatures evolved so quickly because of that desire. Maybe the Calamari Inkantation reminded the Octarians, who lived underground, that their purpose to exist as a life form was to fulfill the ancient longing for the skies by escaping to the surface.

    • @LanieMae
      @LanieMae ปีที่แล้ว +8

      This theory definitely makes sense for the inkantation to be an old human song that was associated with returning to the surface and freedom, but when everyone died the evolving sea life inherited the song and that’s why it’s said to be “carved into the DNA of every inkling” because it literally is. And hearing the song probably triggers the feeling of freedom and hope and is probably the reason the octarians all defected after hearing it, because they too were living underground and wanting to return to the surface

  • @lunapyrope9683
    @lunapyrope9683 3 ปีที่แล้ว +78

    What if long ago back before the Octarians and Inklings fought, they too sang “Calamari Inkantation” as a harvest song alongside the Inklings back when they canonically did cohabitate. And so by hearing it again, it’s in their DNA too and makes them able to break free and remember that their species lived in harmony long ago and can do so again.
    Perhaps some Octarians like Octavio though, have distanced themselves so much from the idea of harmony that it wouldn’t effect him. (Though...I am hoping we have to team up with him in Splat3 to fight a bigger threat)

    My personal very after reading how inklings and octolings evolved in splatoon 3 is that calamari inkantation was a song originally written by humans that made its way into squid culture (due to every inkling and octoling having dormant memories of the song in their DNA). When hearing the song, it reminds them of their humanity and their desire for freedom, which is why it has these effects.

Also,what if fly octo fly is the “calamari inkantantion” for the sanatized Octolings (I don’t say inklings because what I know of there is no inklings that’s sanitized)They could’ve heard it,since they wasn’t too far from the NILS statue.I don’t think the song can make them just become “unsanatized” but it can still make them come to there senses in a way?

    4:40 I think the reason the Inkantation doesn’t have any effect on Octavio other than making him want to dance is simply a matter of him not having been brainwashed. The Inkantation is carved into the DNA of Inklings and Octolings, but that doesn’t mean it just makes them “good.” It’s not exactly clear how much the Octolings are brainwashed via Octavio’s machines and how much is just being isolated from Inklings and raised as soldiers, but we know that Octavio has interacted with Inklings plenty before the Great Turf War. I think on the Octolings who were brainwashed it freed them, but in them and in the ones who weren’t necessarily completely brainwashed it didn’t make them “good,” but rather hearing Inklings singing a song that basically resonated with every cell of their body made them incredibly curious about Inklings and decided that they had to see if Inklings were as bad as they had been raised to believe, so they ran away from the Canyon and made their way to Inkopolis and, given a combination of Inklings being not the brightest species and also most Inklings never actually seeing Octolings before, they just passed themselves as foreign Inklings, which is really only half false since they are foreigners and they are closely related

    Splatoon 3 spoilers bellow:
    I’m Splatoon 3 the fact that Smallfry turns into a giant powerful fish from the marine life energy flowing up into space after the inkantation is played once again. Only this time being played by Octavio. Squid sisters. AND deep cut. I think it’s fair to say the inkantation not only being a song and implanted in the DNA of inklings I believe it exists in some form of all the marine life on the planet and maybe even the memories of the humans form years ago as because they are singing from Alterna which holds the memories of humanity itself and Octavio ramping the track up in space. For all life currently on the planet to hear it to give small fry the energy to turn into Hugefry it’s possible the inkantation is spread to both marine life and humans in a way where it can give anyone power. Maybe even Mr. Grizz was affected by it because it was shown that after the song started playing Callie said that he was also “hugified” so he probably also got stronger from it but Smallfry became even stronger because the marine life bellow and the memories of humanity wanted to protect earth for the better rather than destroy it

    The Empire of Brazil[A] was a 19th-century state that broadly comprised the territories which form modern Brazil and (until 1828) Uruguay. Its government was a representative parliamentary constitutional monarchy under the rule of Emperors Dom Pedro I and his son Dom Pedro II. A colony of the Kingdom of Portugal, Brazil became the seat of the Portuguese colonial Empire in 1808, when the Portuguese Prince regent, later King Dom John VI, fled from Napoleon's invasion of Portugal and established himself and his government in the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro. John VI later returned to Portugal, leaving his eldest son and heir-apparent, Pedro, to rule the Kingdom of Brazil as regent. On 7 September 1822, Pedro declared the independence of Brazil and, after waging a successful war against his father's kingdom, was acclaimed on 12 October as Pedro I, the first Emperor of Brazil. The new country was huge, sparsely populated and ethnically diverse.
    The only other monarchy declared after independence in the Americas was the First Mexican Empire. Unlike most of the neighboring Hispanic American republics, Brazil had political stability, vibrant economic growth, constitutionally guaranteed freedom of speech, and respect for civil rights of its subjects, albeit with legal restrictions on women and slaves, the latter regarded as property and not citizens. The empire's bicameral parliament was elected under comparatively democratic methods for the era, as were the provincial and local legislatures. This led to a long ideological conflict between Pedro I and a sizable parliamentary faction over the role of the monarch in the government. He faced other obstacles. The unsuccessful Cisplatine War against the neighboring United Provinces of the Río de la Plata in 1828 led to the secession of the province of Cisplatina (later to become Uruguay). In 1826, despite his role in Brazilian independence, he became the king of Portugal; he abdicated the Portuguese throne in favor of his eldest daughter. Two years later, she was usurped by Pedro I's younger brother Miguel. Unable to deal with both Brazilian and Portuguese affairs, Pedro I abdicated his Brazilian throne on 7 April 1831 and immediately departed for Europe to restore his daughter to the Portuguese throne.
    Pedro I's successor in Brazil was his five-year-old son, Pedro II. As the latter was still a minor, a weak regency was created. The power vacuum resulting from the absence of a ruling monarch as the ultimate arbiter in political disputes led to regional civil wars between local factions. Having inherited an empire on the verge of disintegration, Pedro II, once he was declared of age, managed to bring peace and stability to the country, which eventually became an emerging international power. Brazil was victorious in three international conflicts (the Platine War, the Uruguayan War and the Paraguayan War) under Pedro II's rule, and the Empire prevailed in several other international disputes and outbreaks of domestic strife. With prosperity and economic development came an influx of European immigration, including Protestants and Jews, although Brazil remained mostly Catholic. Slavery, which had initially been widespread, was restricted by successive legislation until its final abolition in 1888. Brazilian visual arts, literature and theater developed during this time of progress. Although heavily influenced by European styles that ranged from Neoclassicism to Romanticism, each concept was adapted to create a culture that was uniquely Brazilian.
    Even though the last four decades of Pedro II's reign were marked by continuous internal peace and economic prosperity, he had no desire to see the monarchy survive beyond his lifetime and made no effort to maintain support for the institution. The next in line to the throne was his daughter Isabel, but neither Pedro II nor the ruling classes considered a female monarch acceptable. Lacking any viable heir, the Empire's political leaders saw no reason to defend the monarchy. After a 58-year reign, on 15 November 1889, the Emperor was overthrown in a sudden coup d'état led by a clique of military leaders whose goal was the formation of a republic headed by a dictator, forming the First Brazilian Republic.

    1:19 Mispronounced "Sheishō". It's pronounced "Shēshō, because "ei" [pronounced ey] is interpreted as "ē" in japanese. Same with ou and ō
