I have a set of 580 and I had to replace all the pads last year. I bought them sometime in the 90's.

Hi great video, I noticed you fitted to custom cabs bass mod to your headphones, I have fitted to my 6xx with the biggest hole foam insert, I found them better down the bottom end, also I fitted thicker pads also. How do you find them . Ta mark

Leona! That's amazing you found a pair for 4 dollars locally! 580s are a good pair of headphones, and I'm happy you have good eyes to find a pair!

I see you have passion for headphones as well as i do. I can share something you might not know, but many audiophiles concluded that Sennheiser Hd-250 I 600 ohm is the best dynamic senn ever. I came close to buying one, but missed it so i cant comment, but i believe them, they have a cult following and may require some modding to sound mindblowing. Common idea is to increase the clamping force and experiment with pads and cables, altho i doubt you need another project :P cheers

Thanks for this vid. I got old 580s from the early 90s which belonged to my dad and I was thinking about buying a new pair of HD 600s. However after seeing this vid , I decided to save myself some money and just to buy new foam (foam on top is completely gone, drivers are exposed, I mean the thing is 30 years old). Do you think the sound quality suffered over all these years and I should get new drivers? The sound fine to me, but maybe I don’t know what I’m missing.

They will always have this smooth sound to them, so i suggest you stick with the driver till they die. Or if you wanna replace them with a NOS pair, if lucky, then i would say it's worth it. Definitely a good clean and new pads will be due for your pair!
