Joshua I have been building screens for the Ace Hardware I work at for over nine years. I love your videos and how you are helping those who are looking for information. I had to learn the hard way so I am sure there are people who appreciate your videos.
Thank you for that tip about a little slack. I have failed with many frames twisting after mesh installation. That spline really pulls a lot of screen in.
Thank you Joshua. Excellent detailed video. I'll be watching again before I begin replacing 11 screens and frames on my porch due to the recently violent thunderstorms and tornado occurring this past week in upstate New York. All the best to you and your business.
I wished i found your video before I spent $$ and screen didn’t fit. I guess I measured it wrong. Will be redoing the screen with your very detailed instructions as a reference. Best DIY video on YT. Thanks for sharing . New sub 🤙🏾
Great video Joshua. I hope you are VERY successful in your business! It those like you, that spread knowledge, to help others learn the business or DIY. GOOD LUCK!
Thanks for the instructions. I find it is easy to deform the end of the frame piece when you are trying to cut off a small piece, such as when you are turning the 90 into a 45. I suggest instead you make a 45 on one end, cutting off at least 1/2" of material, before you cut to length with another 45. Your jig should allow this because the tip of the 45 will butt against the stop.
🌻🤗🌟Joshua….. YOU give an EXCELLENT demonstration of making the window screen. I made one screen prior to watching your demonstration video with EXPLANATION. My mistake was made causing the screen to bow in. You showed throughly in this video how to avoid that mistake. LoVe your video.💛

Good video, good tips. Thank you for posting. One suggestion, if not already pointed out, correct the spelling of the word “proceed” at the bottom of your order form.
That’s actually what I started doing a few weeks after I made this video. I actually flip the frame over cut that piece off then flip it over again and slide it to the end and make the cut and that way I don’t have to even move the angle of the saw. 🫡

Hello Joshua, thank you for your great content. Have you ever had the spline shrink in the spline channnel after you cut it? I’ve tried 2 different brands of spline and they both have shrunk about 1 inch at both ends. Do you have any tips to resolve this? - Clarissa
Yes I have seen this before. You need to use bigger spline for the channel. What’s happening is your stretching it when you put it in the channel and as time goes by it goes back to its normal size because there is too much room in the spline channel. Try going up .10 maybe even .20 in size see if that helps. Keep me posted. Also weather can play a factor as well if your in a cold environment try doing it in a warmer environment. If that doesn’t fix it let me know what size your using and maybe I can send some your way we have plenty of spline and it wouldn’t cost much to ship it to you. The quality of our spline is top notch.
@@JoshuaTheWindowCleaner Thank you for your response. From your videos, I’ve learned how to rescreen. When doing my own windows, I had no issues (after I got the hang of it) and the results were amazing. There is one business in town and one that is 15 miles away that rescreens. Both are hardware stores and from my experience they seem to not pay too much attention to detail (screen grid not aligned with frame, ripples in mesh, etc). Based on this, I saw an opportunity to provide quality workmanship to those in my area. I’ve started a rescreening business, which I’ve registered with my state and local municipality. This is my first client, and it’s a 21-3/4”x 24-7/8” removable window from an old Larson storm door. The client tried rescreening it herself using .125 spline and had the same issue with shrinkage. I have tried .125, .14 and .16 spline. The .16 spline was very difficult to roll into the channel and I snagged the screen several times attempting to insert it. Also, by the time I finally completed one side and turned the corner, even the .16 had shrunken in the channel. The channel itself is measuring 1/8 inch and I’m using the Phifer BetterVue screen mesh, which recommends .14 to .175 size spline. Having been stumped, I reluctantly took it to the local hardware store, which also used .14 spline. However, where they were satisfied with ripply mesh and a spline gap, chalking it up to “a thing that happens,” I know that I can do better. Regarding the weather, I’m in West Virginia and it’s been in the low to mid 30’s, but I’m working inside my heated basement. Are there special considerations for 4 season climates?
