    I have contributed a bit to the cairn. When I was a child my Dad told me it was the tradition to bring a stone.
    Every time I have visited since, including with my children, we have all found a stone, carried it up and placed it on the cairn.

      Unfortunately queen maebhs cairn is being rapidly destroyed by both tourists and locals climbing it and eroding the cairn. It should be respected and protected.

    I visited last week and was almost brought to tears because of what they have done to it. They have completely commercialised it and taken all the magic away. €5 to get in and what they have done to the central burial chamber is Truely shocking complete with CCTV warning sign.

      @@MarianBichler it's worth going to if you are in the area just be prepared for the modernisation they have done.

      I don't think a fiver entrance fee is unreasonable. I revisited it today after many yrs and it's free once a month. I agree that the passage tomb doesn't feel right. Unfortunately all the huge sheds and stables right beside this precious site is an eyesore too.
