@Pommy Pie Never said the 80s. t72s and t80s were all made in the 70s, thats why I said a decade later not two... If the soviet union had the funds they probably would have continued makes amazing tanks. That being said I would still rather be in a t72 or t80 over a m60a3.
@Pommy Pie T-64 was introduced at around 1963-'64, a decade later it would've seen Chieftain Mk5's, Leopard 1A2's and M60A2's. It's still by far the most capable, especially given that the T-64B was right around the corner and it'd already been upgraded to the T-64A standard in 1968.
I was just saying something about that, lol. If you compare Abrams getting hit to Leopard getting hit. The Leopard has some nasty secondary explosions while the Abrams is like "lol wut" as the fuel burns off worst case. They really need to delete that or have a good blowout system. Store the ammo angled vertical and have it blow forward or something as a sealed cold storage travel rack.
Right on, first to be aware of the enemy and make an acquisition has control of the fight and will likely win, tanks or otherwise, and the Leopard’s situational awareness equipment is stellar.

Not sure I'd agree any tank is the best since different tanks fit better warfare doctrines better. For example, the Abrams is probably the best tank for what America uses it's tanks for but arguably others could beat it out in certain raw statistics, and the Leopard 2 is in a similar situation. Despite that, the fascinating history of it's development was a welcome watch.

It probably doesn't have much actually to do with how 'good' they are; rather how available they are. Im sure germany exports them for a much better price than most of the competition. The thing that always jars me when I see Armored Warfare footage is that the tanks still look pristine even after taking a penetrating hit. It's only when they're actually destroyed that any damage at all is visible.
Armored warfarr has better details such as lights on tanks (front lights and back lights turnijg on when reversing) and after the shot ypu can see thick smoke coming out from the fume extractor.
The problem when people compare the m1a2 and the a7 is that when they type the m1a2 into google they forget to add the “sepv4” as that’s the full name. They are pretty much comparing a modern tank to a a tank that is more than 10 years old
Boo hoo Abrams isn’t called the best so ima go keyboard warrior. Absolutely no one cares, if your country has a tank that can fulfill its duties I count it as good. Not everything is a sick measuring contest. What’s your point also.
I think the Leopard 2 is a great tank because it can do anything well enough. Sure, the reason so many were purchased is that they were basically bargain price after the Soviet Union collapsed; but that has given way to so many different upgrades and options that can be placed on it today. Not the best, but very reliable and versatile.
yeah its modularity and upgradability is why the thing is so popular for exports. every country can modify and make their own versions of it with addon armor where they think they need it. Like the STRV122 for example.
A country being able to afford it is actually an exceedingly important factor. If you can afford 100 Leopard 2 from a post-Cold War bargain sale or 20 some-other-MBT with no discount, there's simply no other tank that would be five times better than Leopard 2!
Is there second chapter as said in the video ? Can't find it. Would be great to see the analysis of following leopard 2 versions and combat service/lessons

Yes. But the most important factor is the deployment zone and tactics. Look at the Canadian and Turkish use of Leo's. Turks used their Leo's while there were no infantry support. So they lost 5-8 Leo 2s. While Canadians used their Leo's with care and made their enemies shit on their pants.

God damn the t 64 was so a head of its time.
@Pommy Pie Fact of the matter is that the t 64 was literally being produced before the first leopard 1 was made. A decade later they had the t80 and other upgrades of the t72 which were also ahead of there time.
@Pommy Pie Never said the 80s. t72s and t80s were all made in the 70s, thats why I said a decade later not two... If the soviet union had the funds they probably would have continued makes amazing tanks. That being said I would still rather be in a t72 or t80 over a m60a3.
Bob Semple was ahead of its time
@Pommy Pie T-64 was introduced at around 1963-'64, a decade later it would've seen Chieftain Mk5's, Leopard 1A2's and M60A2's.
It's still by far the most capable, especially given that the T-64B was right around the corner and it'd already been upgraded to the T-64A standard in 1968.
Unfortunately for the T64, it is no longer it’s time.
You kinda forgot the ammo rack behind the frontal armor that is a massive weak spot.
I was just saying something about that, lol. If you compare Abrams getting hit to Leopard getting hit. The Leopard has some nasty secondary explosions while the Abrams is like "lol wut" as the fuel burns off worst case. They really need to delete that or have a good blowout system. Store the ammo angled vertical and have it blow forward or something as a sealed cold storage travel rack.
that was actually "fixed" on the newest versions ... the DM63 ammunition just doesnt explode when hit

How did the Leo 2 do in Syria?
As a Brazilian, every time I see the Osório, I shed a tear...

Like litterally idk how many have been exported and modified
The Nordic countries like them
\*Happy Canadian noises\*
It probably doesn't have much actually to do with how 'good' they are; rather how available they are. Im sure germany exports them for a much better price than most of the competition. Parts availability is also likely much better due to the location of Germany.
At the end of the day, quantity and logistics usually triumphs over how modern the technology they use is.

ok but get warthunder sponsor next time the ingame footage is heaps better
I actually liked the flash and smoke/dust of this footage though. But war thunder has indeed better models.
The grind of WT leaves alot to be desired though.
Besides, AW has been chugging along on a smaller dev team than the other bigger tank games.

@@mango9602 I’m not sure where you got all that shit from, I’m just saying when people compare the two, they are comparing the wrong tanks.
Turns out they weren't that good
Keep it up Cone!🤝

Where 2a5 and 2a6. They are absolute beasts in terms of combat as well as having a lot of angled armor in the front of the turret
Were there any German Leo2s fighting in 1991 Gulf War and in Kosovo?
Am I right in thinking the Leopard 2 doesn't have the awful fuel efficiency of the Abrams either?
When's part 2 dropping?
that'd be correct, plus it has the benefit of running on diesel instead of jet fuel which simplifies supply lines.
@@jonahdewitt8464 I'm not trying to fanboy for the Abrams, but its turbine is less picky about fuel than most internal combustion engines. Every source I have seen says that it can run on diesel, and many other hydrocarbons, in addition to the jet fuel.
@@jonahdewitt8464 Abram's turbine can use multiple fuel types, not only jet fuel. Merica knows the quirk of the turbine but accepted it because of its performance and versatile acceptance of fuel, even if it is quite thirsty, America can be spendy with it's supplies
@jonahdewitt8464 the US miltary has standardized on one fuel type for all ground vehicles starting in the early 90s to simplify supply lines. It's JP8 which is a NATO standard fuel. As others have pointed out the turbine can run on diesel or other fuels if necessary. One of the main things that makes the US military so capable is its logistics capability, hence bases all over the world.

@@ywe3 wdym the “standard”? Because if we’re talking off if it gets copied then I guess the t 72 would be the standard
@@potatojuice5124 what I mean is WESTERN standard...the Eastern standard hasn't deviated since the T-54M...but that being said different doctrines get different tools...the western powers based their doctrines on a massed Soviet wave so western tanks are defensively designed and also incorporate the ability to sprint from one position to another in very short order...this is why western designs almost always have 10°of depression and very thick turrets...Russian designs are made for the attack [despite what the Soviet union's stance of defense might make you think]...they're low slung, big gunned, medium tanks...i.e. fodder...
@@ywe3 that’s fair. I wouldn’t call the Abrams the standard because pretty much all nato nations have their own designs and unique doctrines.

A tank is only as good as its surrounding groups, thats why there were destroyed Leo 2 in turkey and Abrams in Irak
Yes. But the most important factor is the deployment zone and tactics. Look at the Canadian and Turkish use of Leo's. Turks used their Leo's while there were no infantry support. So they lost 5-8 Leo 2s. While Canadians used their Leo's with care and made their enemies shit on their pants.
