Certainly better than anything constructed using indigenous materials and skills. However Eko Atlantic it is beginning to look like a ‘white elephant’ in the same way as the ongoing palms and failed ‘World’ development in Dubai.

Eko Atlantic is not elephant project.
It take time to reclaim land and it take time to make the land settle before construction.
Currently, construction of different department is going on.

After participating in the Nigerian Power Industry and watching from the inside for 12 years I know there’s a lot to laugh about in Nigerian infrastructure, power plants with no gas, no distribution network and don’t even look at the distribution … Eko Atlantic will go the same way, massive waste of money to make a few politicians and big men rich … 😂😂😂

I want to see this city develop so fast. It breaks my heart rn that it isn’t that fast. The belief makes the difference. Maybe groundscrapers may be an option if the plan can be readjusted? What do I know? Or if one of these multinationals or banks may have its office space in the city would set a trend where most people would have to move their offices to the city. At the end I’m eagerly waiting to see this city mature.

Eko Atlantic is a smart city being built on reclaimed land from the ocean using reable malleable materials in a time where global warming is a massive issue. These malleable materials take 10-15 years to fully settle. Any widespread massive contruction until then will likely result in both an ecological & infastructurial disaster. They've been contruction around the edge of Lagos proper. There also still touching some of the power grid & sewage system in the meantime.

I'm from the US, and though I love what you all are doing here, I really wish you all would take a good $5-25 million of these dollars and invest in Makoko!
Those people don't want much. They don't even want to leave mostly. just build them a community that you all don't have to be ashamed of seeing. Rebuild everything they have which is a shell or skeletal housing with walls and a roof, and let it be an African form of Venice without the high end price tag and expensive stuff. It could still be worth touring as long as it's clean, but those folk deserve better!

In US if you build a house in a lagoon, the building inspectors, and the city will smash it down the next day, infact you will need a building permit to even get started, it only happened in Lagos because the city was negligent.

      I concur! Outright!
But if you must know, the Lagos state government was dragged to court on multiple occasions ( and it lost) by the Makoko residents who fought their evictions to make way for real estate!
I do believe Makoko would be revisited !
      It has to be!
It is an eyesore beyond belief!
The government has to build low cost housing on a grand scale to facilitate a relocation away from that filthy slums!
Another truth is the people are not indigenous to the area, about 90% of the people are from faraway places outside the city and even the country.
Yes, indeed unscrupulous local“landlords” in the area are actually exploiting the people by knowingly building even more below par dwellings and making money for themselves!

Rome wasn't built in a day, but Dubai was built in only 6 years. This project was too ambitious to start with and should've been on a smaller scale

    • @oluapampa5075
      @oluapampa5075 3 ปีที่แล้ว +14

Ambitious? Depends on who you speak to. I wouldn't say its Ambitious. I suspect the project doesn't have many investors who want to invest in the project due to the Nigerian government. This project is the kind of financial investment that a lot of international investors would be interested in. Dubai was a risky project that took up to 15 years and both the rulers of Dubai and the investors were on the same page. Not so in Nigeria, the Nigerian government and its behaviour are the reasons why investors are not rushing to pour money into the project.

@@oluapampa5075 are you seriously saying this? Dubai is an enclave of no other interests. If the FG builds a new city in Lagos, what would Enugu people say? Una don start. Bro if you have money, go buy a land there and build.
FYI, Dubai people built Dubai. Nigerians are to build Nigeria period.
Finally, I believe the people building this city right now have put faith and matched dreams with actions and they deserve all the commendations due them. Whatever you can do to encourage them, please do so that when this is completed, those white people and black Americans who believe black people live on trees and huts would see this and we would be proud knowing quite well that we built this for us.

@@JustThinkingAboutIt I'm quite aware that the project is private and has nothing to do with the Nigerian government. However its location is still in Nigeria. And right now the current Nigerian government's reputation for human rights abuses and it lack of transparency scares international investors away. @@JustThinkingAboutIt The fact that a so-called democratically elected government acted like an autocrat and banned twitter simply because they removed a message from the president, which they believed was highly inflammatory. How does that look to foreign investors? Or the crackdown last year on SARS protesters. It affects projects like EKO Atlantic. No matter how exciting that project is. To give your an example. A recent project in the UK - Wembley City neighbourhood situated around the Wembley Stadium in London, is a good example of how much trust and confidence foreign investors have in a government that they will pour billions of pounds into an abandoned area that once occupied warehouses and offices. And turn it a new neighbourhood complete with hotel , shopping complex, cinema, restaurants, housing, student accommodation, all within a ten year period. A project that was first dreamt up just 19 years ago. The slow pace of construction at Eko Atlantic is down to the Nigerian government and its erratic behaviour that affect private projects like EKO Atlantic.
