Actually going through the comments I could see that people talked a lot about the origin of the word Eko. Truly the word Eko is given by Edo but we should know that it was after the Bini dominated the city that they changed it to Eko. It was originally referred to Oko by the Yorubas, the Aworis to be precise who are the native and first settlers of Lagos. Yoruba called it Oko until the Bini came and changed it to Eko and then the Portuguese to Lagos. Oko in Yoruba means Farm. And it can also mean Farm/camp settlement.
