    Hi Robert, if your icemaker is making too much ice or overflowing be sure the bucket is properly positioned directly under the icemaker. Make sure the feeler arm is not broken. Some refrigerators have a freezer shelf that must be used when installing an icemaker. If the shelf is not installed properly, it will cause the ice to overflow. If the above suggestions do not resolve this issue I recommend contacting service to have your unit diagnosed. Thanks for checking with us! Alison with GE

    Hi Peter - Thanks for reaching out to us. I am happy to help. Some ice makers have a wire bail, which acts as an on-off switch. To stop ice production, lift this arm up. If your model does not have this design, and you have an electronic display on the front of the freezer door, you may have a pad that controls this operation. To turn the ice maker off, press the “Ice Off/Lock” pad once, and let it go immediately. The words “ICE OFF” should appear. I hope this helps! Thanks, Jill with GE

    Thank you so much for providing this video. It was not only great for troubleshooting - it showed me how to fix the ice maker. That would have been a pricey service call and that's IF I got an honest repair person. Thank you again very much.

    This video solved the problem on my GE GDE23GG but I did have to run through the procedure twice. Some things to note: a piece of ice was frozen and preventing the rake from fully rotating. It came shooting out of the freezer (no exaggeration) so be careful if your face is in the freezer during the test like mine was. I ran through the test twice because the first time there was still not water "noise" coming from the ice maker after the first test (no flashing green light either). Not sure if I didn't wait a full 15 seconds during the first test before power-cycling.
    During the second test, the paddle stayed IN while the rake was moving. Once the rake made a full revolution then the paddle came fully OUT and the water pump (water noise) came on and went back off.
    All is well now and I can go back to making my iced coffees. :-)

    i did the test and noticed one of the plastic teeth that dont move was a little bent which was preventing the teeth that do move from making a rotation! bent it back into place and now i have ice! I have been buying bags of ice for 2 yrs thinking the thing was broken! THANKS FOR THIS VIDEO GE really helped... only wish i would have looked this up long time ago! but such is life, happy to have it fixed now!

    Hello Derek, I have a suggestion that might help. Remove the ice bin and any large clumps of ice in the bucket, store the separated cubes in the freezer until later. Rinse the bin with warm water and let it air dry. Place the separated ice cubes back in the bucket and into the freezer, try dispensing the regular cubes again. I hope this works! - Sheree with GE

  • @geappliances
    @geappliances  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Art - I am happy to help. If the ice is clumped or frozen together in the bin, it may dispense only crushed ice, or no ice at all. Remove the bin and dump the ice into a clean bowl. Rinse the bin with warm water, dry it with a clean towel, and place only the separated ice back into the bucket, taking care to remove any large clumps or small shavings of ice. Place the bin back into the freezer and try dispensing again. I hope this helps! Thanks, Jill with

    This video is THE BEST. The diagnostic test helped tremendously. My problem was that water was not getting to the ice maker. A day earlier there was a piece of ice caught under the flapper and that ice caused a spring under the flapper to come out of place. Therefore the flapper was not doing it's job. I put the spring back in place and it all works now. Thanks!

  • @geappliances
    @geappliances  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Marcos, if during the diagnostic test the icemaker rake did not move or water did not fill the mold it is recommended to call for an icemaker replacement. If the icemaker light does not come on I suggest you check the on/off switch or the icemaker plug. If the light comes on, I suggest you try the diagnostic test again. If you are unable to get the light on the icemaker to come on I recommend service. I hope this information is helpful. Alison with GE

    The paddle/flapper on our ice maker had a chunk of ice on it preventing it from swinging out fully. However, this video helped me test it once I fixed it. Thanks!!!

    • @gobdeep
      @gobdeep 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Exactly what happened to mine. I found this video, went through the test, and the rake started to move. I sat there with the freezer drawer open watching the rake and they got stuck about 1/8" "up" and kept grinding. About a minute after they got stuck "WHAM!": a piece of ice came shooting out like a bullet. Ricocheted off of the freezer drawer and into the kitchen. Looks like a piece of ice was frozen and holding the rake down.

  • @dangreenspan8412
    @dangreenspan8412 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Very useful video, thanks. Mine wouldn't perform the self-test, so i removed it and found that the rotary rake had seized against the stationary teeth that break up the ice as it comes out of the mold. This caused the paddle to become stuck in the off position regardless of the on/off switch position. After I freed the rake by breaking off the stuck stationary tooth, the ice maker started working normally. I suspect that two cubes will always be frozen together because of the missing tooth, but if this becomes a big issue I'll replace the assembly.

    Hello Kim, We are sorry to hear you are having this issue and will be happy to help. Sometimes a small mound of frost/snow will form on the door in the ice chute. This condition is normal and usually occurs when you have dispensed crushed ice repeatedly. It will eventually evaporate.You can clean frost from the dispenser chute by using a warm damp sponge. For continuous frost: Operate the dispenser with the door open and the ice bucket out to see if the flap is closing all the way. If not, you will want to have the dispenser checked by a service technician.If you would like to schedule a service appointment, please contact GE Consumer Service at
    1-800-432-2737. I hope this helps!

    This video saved my cash poor ass big time. Bought a new house in Vegas with a GE. The ice in the drawer was at least 8 to 10 months old and tasted awful. Dumped it. Did the factory reset. It worked. It's now making new ice. Thanx loads!
    Q: I installed a quality Fleck water softener on the house. (The water in Vegas is awful. It's extremely hard.) If the new ice still tastes funny, what next? Replace the filter? The water from the dispenser tastes good. Although it's not cold. Thanx again.

    My GE Ice maker started to not make ice very quickly or at all. Not even two years old. I tried resetting the icemaker but to no avail. Just randomly hit the temp button on the front and noticed my freezer was set to 0 degrees but was only 10 degrees inside. Plenty cold, but not cold enough per the setting. Then noticed the door wasn't quite closing all the way due to an item inside sticking out just a bit too far. Readjusted the item and noticed the door close better with that normal "seal feel" clump. It took a few hours but the inside temp went back down to 0 degrees, and the ice maker went back to working normally.

    Hello GE..
    GE Appliances are the only ones I've ever owned.
    Last frig was 20 years old and still works nice and cold. Ice Maker went out after 20 years and was told there was no replacement.
    2019 bought GE side by side french door, water and ice outside panel. Today beeping beeps beeps continued, it changed from ice to water to lock to ice all day long.
    So, I went to the breaker box and flipped it off, for 1-minute and looked at panel. It was on lock. So I unlocked it reset freezer to 0° and frig to 37° and it's been 30 minutes and no beep!
    Now,,,, can you tell me why it barely makes ice?????
    Filter is new, frig hasnt been in house but 6 months, yes it makes ice but super slow, takes longer than 90 minutes to make a single batch, please help and thank you!

    I have GE model PSS27NSTASS. The original ice maker failed (green light flashing). I purchased a used one that demanded water once, then it started flashing. The diagnostic test did not activate a cycle. I replaced the water valve to no avail, then found a new WR30X10093 icemaker for a good price. I let it sit for 48 hours and tried the diagnostic test. Nothing. Freezer temp is set to zero. Is there any other electronic source of failure? Perhaps the control board? Please share your thoughts.

    Bought GE Fridge last April (2016). Month later had to get service in because ice maker was not working. Repair did dazzle dazzle reset and said it should be fine. Haven't worked fine the rest of time. Finally got frustrated and phone GE. What a surprise! Sorry sir you are out of your warranty. Repair guy left today after paying $120.00 to tell us the ice maker (which is pretty well new still) needs replacing. Cost? only $331.00. I am in the building industry and will gladly share my GE experience with many.

    Where should the ice rake rest? It is stopping on the water fill side and have noticed at times that ice freezes to the rake. If this is not the proper location, how can it be adjusted to the proper position? It also seems to have trouble dumping the ice into the bin as the cubes appear to be partially frozen to the rake.

    Replaced ice maker, replaced filter, replaced damper door assembly, replaced circuit board, replaced inlet water valve. I run ice maker through the diagnostic, it does what it's supposed to do, even warms up on the bottom, then I close freezer door. Next day, ice is in tray and ice maker doesn't cycle. It's as if it's just stuck frozen. Temp display shows 0, fresh food shows 37. I'm stumped. Model is GE Profile PSS26SGRASS. Haven't had ice in 2 weeks now trying all these parts.

    We turned off water to our house a few weeks ago to work on the plumbing. Before then our Ice Maker was working perfect. After we turned our water back on it stopped working. We unplugged the fridge/freezer and let it thaw out. But its still not making ice (Do you need to turn the Ice Maker off when you shut off water to your house??) Water works perfectly. We pulled out the ice bucket and preformed the ice maker diagnostic test but nothing happened. No turn and no water filled.
    After we turned on the water to the house we noticed that the ice makers green light WAS flashing green. Now its a solid green.. Any ideas what could be wrong? It can't be broken since it was working before the water was shut off to the house.

    My GE Model GSL22JFXA LB has stopped making ice. I noticed that in the past 6 months or so it would stop, I would change filter and then it would start up again. Now it's not making any ice at all. I checked the water lines and I have good water pressure but there is no water filling the ice maker. I tried to run a diagnostic test as per procedures, but it doesn't work. I also noticed that the green light on the ice maker is off, but the switch is on. But then, that green light was never on from day 1. Could it be the solenoid or the ice maker itself that has gone bad ? Water dispenses very well from the front.

    • @geappliances
      @geappliances  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi - there could be several causes for your icemaker not producing ice. Your freezer's temperature be less than 15 degrees F in order for the icemaker to call for water. If the temp is OK, then make sure the icemaker is plugged in - there is a cord that plugs into the freezer and if it's become dislodged, that would explain why the green light isn't on and why the diagnostic test didn't work. However if that's not the cause, you may need service at 1-800-432-2737. Thanks -CC

      The chute in the freezer door gets clogged, especially if you use the crushed ice setting, it plugs up in the door, I used a long wood dowel to unclog it, just stab down the shoot untill all the ice is broken up.

    New GE profile French door, freezer on the bottom fridge. We don't use ice that often, once a week. The ice cubes are all frozen in the bin in the freezer. the freezer is set to zero why would the ice melt into a sold block.

    • @geappliances
      @geappliances  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hello- Congratulations on your new refrigerator. Thanks so much for checking with us. When the ice bin is full, the pressure from the weight of the cubes can cause the bottom cubes to fuse and clump. To prevent this from happening, discard the clumped ice and check the bin periodically to ensure the ice is not building up. If you do not use a large amount of ice, you may turn off the icemaker and stop ice production to prevent this as well. We hope this helps! JW

    After about 6 months of using my new refridgerator the water dispenser has become very slow and the ice maker is not making ice (because the water filling the tray comes out too slow). It is not the filter. And the water supply pressure is fine. What can it be?

    Hi, I have a Kenmore side by side, The ice maker works, but after using the icemaker, either cube or crushed, we are getting ice cubes inside the freezer on the lower shelves. Is there something that is supposed to prevent the ice from falling into the freezer section?

    • @geappliances
      @geappliances  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Michael - while I don't know anything about Kenmore refrigerators (Kenmore is not related to GE), you want to make sure the ice bucket is in the correct position so ice can't "miss" the chute. And if the bucket is overflowing with ice, you may want to remove some. You may want to check with Kenmore to see if they have suggestions specifically for your model. Thanks -CC

    Hello. I had some leaking from my freezer. I replaced the icemaker since part of the rake was missing and it was having trouble operating properly. Then I noticed the leak was from the waterline that goes to the freezer. So I also replaced the water inlet valve. Now I am not getting any water to the icemaker. Still getting it to the water dispenser in the front. Any suggestion? The icemaker diagnostic didn't do anything.

    I have a GE Profile fridge about 6-7 years old, top freezer / water dispenser inside fridge. The ice maker makes ice, but the production is low. What could that be? thanks

    • @geappliances
      @geappliances  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Bill Turpin, Thanks for contacting us. We will be happy to help. If you have an integrated ice bucket the bucket will get to the point where the ice maker stops, but is not yet full, after 1-2 days without dispensing. Nominal production of 100 to 120 cubes in 24 hours will only fill the back portion of the ice bucket. (100 to 120 cubes doesn't look like much.) Try dispensing some ice. The ice maker will start working again and the ice bucket will get full.
      If the ice bucket is empty and you leave for a few days, it will only be 1/2 full when you come back. This is due to the ice bucket tilting back and the ice pile in the back shutting off the ice maker. Once some ice has been dispensed the ice maker will start working again and the ice bucket will get full.
      With no ice usage, other than the auger to move the ice up, this can take 2-3 days for it to get full.
      Thanks so much for your question. I hope this helps!

    Ice has shifted, probably as dispenser operated when there was a full accumulation of cubes, causing a jam. I can not remove the ice drawer at all. Is it advisable/possible to aim a hair drier on low setting up through the opening to the gears to help dislodge enough ice to allow the gears to operate from the bottom--ultimately allowing the top cubes to lower enough to pull out the drawer? Or is my only option is to pull the power and wait for everything to melt? It is a GE double door, bottom freezer, with ice maker dispenser in left door model GF356KKYASS. Thanks.

      Hello Rudy, thanks for contacting us and we want to help. First, make sure that the icemaker switch is in the "ON" position. Then, the icemaker must reach 15 degrees F before a cycle will begin, so increase your temperature settings if needed. there is a $2 part (thermistor) - amozon, on some ice makers that usuaally fails first to keep from you burning up your motor, it sends/gives the coils under the ice some quick heat to let them slide out easy. On some ice makers. Look in tray where ice should be, if it's there! its the above therrmistor or a bad fuse or worn out motor due to above. check wiring dio. and test it and if bad read #on it. good luck, Richard

      Hi Kathleen - if the water was not hooked up to the refrigerator for awhile and the icemaker was left on, that can cause the water valve to burn out.
