    Great Video! Are you going to do the other seasons?

    • @bridge4
      @bridge4  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yeah, i recently got back into reading the novels. i had forgotten how much i like this show despite the fact that ive been growing out my hair to look like uhtred since season 2 or 3 lol. only seen 1.5 ep[isodes of the new season though, but i do plan on eventually getting out summary type videos for every season as well as "top differences book vs show" for each season
      im extremely slow and OCD tho. as an example, season 4 is adapted from books 7 and 8, and over the last week, i read 7 once, 8 twice, and im rereading book 7 again lol
      did you enjoy season 4?

  • @rullmourn1142

    looking at the pics on here reminds me, i don't think too many people realize that your arms would have to be about 4 feet long to pull a sword out of a sheath that was strapped to your back.

    • @bridge4
      @bridge4  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      lol i was wondering that last week when i finally finshed season 2. you can take it out, because they dont use long swords. they have cool viking-ish swords
      but getting it back in the sheath looks like a pain (i realized it when he did it pretty smoothly and i thought 'oh crap... i could NOT do that...especially if i wanted to sheath it to climb something while im in the middle of a battle')

    Please do Season 2. It's unfortunate that like so many other shows on netflix, they don't simply include the recaps with the show.

    I binged season 2 yesterday. I love this show. Can't wait to see your recap of that one. Do you think you'll do specific episodes or just an overall recap? I'm hoping for the former.

    • @bridge4
      @bridge4  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Enjoli Henigan planned on doing a season 2 recap before s3 comes out. This time, I'd do it before the morning of...so hopefully it'll be better and have video instead of just still shots. This one was a total rush job the day before it was released.
      Not sure about episode by episode. I might do those but it'll take some time. Bc if I did them, I would compare it to th3 book. To sort of layer in any deleted scenes from th3 novels and also explain stuff that the show migjt not make as cLear as it is in the books.
      That'll be a fUn project actually. Thanks for the idea!

    no Spoilers at all. Bernard Cornwell wrote these books and they're fantastic. He's always been my number 1 favorite author! He produced a new book almost every year. They read very fast, so much action and excitement. Where can we see season 2? Very accurate history of battles, Danes ect!

    • @bridge4
      @bridge4  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      ive only gotten through book 1 so far. bought the first 3 though. definitely plan on reading all of them in due time
      im not well versed in the this history. its VERYYY intriguing tho. i really loved their use of the shield wall in season 1
      im 3 episodes into season 2 and REALLY enjoying it. the pacing is a little slower, which i think is a good thing...
      so are some of these battles REAL battles that happened? uhtred is fictional tho, right?

    • @Jockeylotforfun
      @Jockeylotforfun 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      bridge4 Uhtred uhtredson was an actual person or possibly several persons in a family line. Bernard Cornwell is a real life descendant of an Uhtred Uhtred son. They were actual kings in Northumbria/ Northumberland and held Bamberg castle for many centuries. It was known as bebamberg in ancient times. Most of the people, places and battles are real history. This author takes real history and weaves in a few fictional characters so that we can have a first hand experience. Google Half Dan, Ivar the boneless, Aethelstan, Athelflaed, Athelred, Alfred the great. The white horse carved into the hills, said to be where Alfred fought a great Saxon dane battle. Take a good look at all his titles except Sharpe series. (yep, I've read them all) Agincort, is another great book. During Bernards research he found the name of an actual archer "Robin Longstride" and brings him to life. We'll be at the great battle of Agincort first hand and experience everything as Robin Longstride once did. his friends, conversations ect are the fictional device that allows us to pull back the curtain of time and enter this world. The Archers tales are about the 100 years war. I think you'd love them. See how you feel after Saxon tales. best regards!

    • @bridge4
      @bridge4  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      very cool!!! i knew that it was "historical fiction', but i always thought that uhtred was part of the fiction (not just his specific story, but the character as a whole)
      wow. thats pretty awesome. this story is going to take on new meaning for me now. thanks for sharing that, m'Lady!

  • @craig8612
    @craig8612 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The book series is one of my favorites, as is Cornwell's trilogy on Arthur. Both series are true to history of the time as far as we know today, but there are enough gaps in the historical record that Cornwell is able to insert characters like Uhtred believably. The show is well done and I understand why they shortened or cut some things, but the books--of course--are better.

    • @Jockeylotforfun
      @Jockeylotforfun 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Craig always a pleasure to meet a Cornwell fan. The Archers tales are about the 100 yrs war sometimes called the graile quest series and theyre great too.

  • @recarsion
    @recarsion 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Wow, I didn't even know this series was based on an actual antology, now I have to read it before I continue with season 2. Books are just always better in my opinion, and if the series is already this awesome then I'll love the books.
    Also I'm not a very emotional guy but dammit, when Iseult died I had to pause for a few minutes to process what just happened and cry a bit.

    • @bridge4
      @bridge4  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      the show adaptation changes things, but i feel ya. i just finished book 7 yesterday. and im trying to read book 8 before marathoning season 4 this week (since each season is adapted from 2 books, i think. so s4 will be books 7 and 8)
      enjoy! =))

    • @recarsion
      @recarsion 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bridge4 I just finished the first two books and wow, the series is amazing but the books are better beyond comparison.
      I think Uhtred's Danish childhood would have deserved more than just one episode. Only one episode couldn't really drive Uhtred's connection to his Danish family across as well as the book did, we didn't see the feasts, the pagan rituals, the conquest, the sailing, or Serpent Breath being forged by Ealdwulf (which I especially miss from the show, it's a much more personal story than just paying a random smith to make a sword). I guess I understand that there can't possibly be enough time for all this, but I think it would have deserved two episodes instead of just one.
      And the final battle is just lame in comparison. In the books it was a long struggle with both armies full of fear and barely obeying the command to attack, the saxons vastly outnumbered and seemingly hopeless until it was finally won by a clever tactical move when everything seemed lost. Here they just fight for a bit then Uhtred goes mad and breaks the Danish shield wall and that's basically the end of it.

  • @hgwells1899
    @hgwells1899 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    The first season of this show had one of the best episodes 1's of any in 2016. And that's saying something. The vikings were pure class and even Rutger Haure shone.
    Sure the battles were a bit drama-documentary but what a tale. I guess I'm biased since Uhtred son of Uhtred clearly based his look on me but hey, can you blame him?
    I never caught up with season 2, first time around. I was bingeing on Lost and up to my man-bun in movies at the time. Netflix you say? I'm in, come Valhalla or high water : ]

    • @bridge4
      @bridge4  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +hgwells allthewayfrom1899 I've stI'll only see the force awakens one time (in theatres). I was actually thinking about that yesterday as I looked at a ppsture I have of rey (that's the girls name right?)
      Is odds the youger a minor role in it? I'll keep my eye out for him
      I'm trying to make a game of thrones video today on sandor. Reading one more chapter then takING a break to watched last kingdom s2e1 :)

    • @hgwells1899
      @hgwells1899 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Lol yeh right, that's "the girls" name...no need to be embarrassed, Kev. Star Wars aint only for nerds, y'know. In fact, I'm pretty sure you're wearing your BB8 socks right now .' )
      A thought on Sandor Clegane, if I may. Most people think Sansa, but if anyone I think it's Arya who will fulfil the role of Lady Stoneheart from the books. She needs a crew: The Brothers Without Banners already think the Hound is top dog material. Put this bunch together and the road to Cleganebowl comes with a cause to fight for.
      Maybe : ]

    • @bridge4
      @bridge4  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +hgwells allthewayfrom1899 haha no no I'm definirely not embarrassed by being a nerd, even if ur trying to tell urself thar star wars isn't nerdy :-P
      I'm just not very well versed on star wars. I've never read any books,barely played videos games as a kid. So I was liable to slip and make up a name for her. I have two posters from force awakens tho :)
      If there is a LSH storyline, I could see arya filling the void like u said. But then again, aryas skills come as an assassin,which is more of a solo rolo...whereas sansa doesn't have much to dO for the next season besides sit in winterfell until the wights come barging in...

      But u def don't watch it. checK out the show. It's alot of fun imo. First couole episodes move very fast. Same as books. But hang in there. If u have questions, let me know and I'll try to find answers for ya if I don't know them off the top of my head
