I’ve been around since well into the TXG days, and this, in my opinion, was the best video you’ve done in a long time! Very little bias - both technically and personally, and just top-notch data. I hope everyone appreciates this as much as I do. Keep them coming!
I love my Mizuno Pro 245's. As forgiving as any player improvement club, if not more, and they feel so, so smooth ... like butter! And there isn't a better looking iron anywhere. Just BEAUTIFUL!!!
Was just fit with the 245s (5-PW) after playing MP-59s for 10 years. Was blown away by how workable they are for how much tech/forgiveness they have. Tried to be un-bias in the fitting - Mizuno really had the secret sauce with these.
Finally, someone else who used MP-59s! I'm exactly the same - bought my MP-59s 2nd hand as a beginner a few years ago and got fitted to 245s in Japan as a reward. Still love the feel of the MP-59s but the 245s are just more forgiving. Enjoy your 245s
I’ve been away from the game for many years and decided to get back into the fold. Tested a few players irons this fall and ended up purchasing a set of the Mizuno 245’s. (4-PW) I only had a chance to play them 4 times before the courses started shutting down for the season but man they are great set of irons. They look great, feel great and the distance is bang on no matter how flush or off centre the strike is. No more rocket balls over the back of the green if I hit it flush like my old game improvement irons. 👍 Now I’ll have to look at/test some new drivers come spring. My old one from 2003 is leaving some yards on the table I think. 😆
Got fit into the PXG 0317T in June. My strokes gained approach has dropped by 2 with them. Great clubs, forgiving but you can tell when you miss it. Not super long but also no jumpers. Very consistent flight and spin. Love them.
I'm an absolute CLUB WHORE. I have new sets of irons every month, etc. I have the Ti-fusion...they are the best irons I have ever hit, and are not leaving my bag. They are unreal.
I really like the p770 I got them about 5 months ago and I'm playing some of the best golf in my life with them, what was interesting to me is for you as well they have a slight draw bias . I thought it was just me. I don't hit my 7 iron as far as you do however front to back dispersion is excellent
I started the season with the T200s, moved on to the PXG 0311P Gen 6, then the P790s, and finally settled on the Mizuno Pro 245s. The 245s are incredible and won't be leaving my bag anytime soon. I wish that I had started with Mizuno; I could have saved many dollars 😂
Forget about the cost of the Fusion's -- the Oban ct 115 shafts are approximately $80 a copy (used). Not cheap for this weekend duffer. I really like the look of the Mizuno 245s! I was fitted last year. I don't think they were in their shop at the time, so the head that was picked was Paradym. I haven't bought anything yet. Would I be way off course, based on the fitters recommendation, to buy the 245s instead? Or how do they compare? Thank you.
I wish you had included the Apex AI 200 since the price is more in line with others and likely a significant factor notwithstanding the Ti Fusion performance. Have you done the Ti Fusion side by side to the AI 200?
I definitely feel the P770's are more draw biased than any other iron set I tried in the hollow body realm. I play a natural draw as it is and noticed that these irons end up left an additional 5-10 yards compared to my older set of clubs with a 6 iron. It's very consistent but I have a darn near impossible time hitting a fade.
I had the t100s at 1*up got fitted into the new p770 at 2* flat. I can still hit a draw but overcooking one is so much harder to do. I still hit a draw but much more consistent with the Taylormade. When I hit a fade now it’s not a weak one.
I got fitted a couple years ago and didn’t think the swing had changed much but I wonder if they play too upright for me. That shouldn’t apply here though, as they’ve adjusted all of them to default angles for him.
@@Mark_Nex maybe a different shaft will help? I have the same shaft from t100s to p770. I did the 1* up based off my previous fitting before the t100s with different shafts. I love the flight with the p770s I can powerful push fade just opening the face up a bit at address
@@donkee9 fitter was 50/50 on x stiff vs stiff but stayed in stiff. Wondering if a stiffer profile might fix it? I tried a few different shafts at a golf galaxy launch day and they all seemed to want to go that way.
Just got a TI Fusion 3 iron built with an Oban Kiyoshi Purple 100-04 as my driving iron. My god is it a cannon. Feels great, looks great but yes, they are pricey
Very useful info! I am currently agonizing over a MP243/245 blended set. I am wondering how you handled the loft transition between the two? It does not seem a simple as matching the loft progression because of the 245's spin and launch differences ....
Adjusting loft on both sides of the transition to make gapping come out consistently. Good sets to combo will have proper gapping while retaining launch/spin on the individual irons.
@@cubuffs5601 Yeah I get that part but in this case the 245's have a mass of tungsten that changes thru the 245 range depending on the iron. Makes it more complicated blending with the 243's. It may not be so simple as lowering the loft 1 degree on the 243 and increasing the 245 1 degree.
@@BrettWaldemar100%. There won’t be an exact formula to it, but a good gapping session will let you dial in the right lofts to adjust for the differences in launch conditions. Ian has a 243/245 combo in the bag, and you know he will have it completely dialed in.😊
I was kind of in the same boat and just went straight 245s. I hold greens with a 4 iron no problem and the difference between models in the higher irons tiny unless you're like an ELITE striker. Ball selection can get you in the launch/spin window you want with the more forgiving iron and the workablility is there. Don't overthink it, confidence from all lies is heavily underrated.
I think it’s a video title issue. I think this is more of a player’s hollow body comparison whereas the i530 fits more into the player’s distance hollow body. Iirc, the i530 6-iron is around 25/26 degrees, whereas these are probably around 29 degrees. P790s would also fit in with the i530s.
Well, I take that back. Seems the T200 is lofted at 27 degrees. I’m more familiar with the P770, so I was making an assumption. Not sure what the criteria was lol
As you mentioned Ian, the figures most people would be worried about in that comparison is the price figures. No doubt the Ti fusion performed well, as did all the irons tested, but that price is prohibitive for most folks.
@ TXG Hi Ian on your last cavity back video the T150 6 iron outperformed these numbers with ball speed of 134 and carry of 204 and spin 5212 do they have more pop than these hollow body irons ?
“Performance is hard to argue…” They’re all basically within the standard deviations of each other!?!? And that’s in a controlled setting. Out in the wild they’re essentially interchangeable.

"This thing was like a 1-legged duck!" Hahaha.
Love these standardized category comparos. Should be playing on the TVs in every big box store.

Swing speed was probably different in that test, and may well have been using a different ball. They would account for the different numbers.
No, I was was swinging slower to try to be more relatable for the test.

Recently seen a lot of cracked & dented hollow body faces on the forums. Is there a chs threshold to stay under?
Cracking these irons is more a function of many off-center hits than high clubhead speed.
Should it not be p790 and not p770 for more comparable iron?
