    Just wanted to address some common comments on this video!
    1. "The developers could've implemented proper split-screen"
    YES! And I agree that they should've. The point of this video is explaining why implementing it typically requires planning.
    2. "If the PS1 and PS2 could do it, it should be easier on the PS5"
    NO! The cost of split screen will ALWAYS be 2x the cost of rendering a view at whatever cut resolution. Meaning if you're pushing the hardware to its limit with just one view, you need to optimize. PS1 and PS2 games typically started production with local multiplayer in mind, so optimization is factored from the beginning. Sparking ZERO developers didn't start local multiplayer until later in development.
    This split-screen limitation is also the same limitation that's holding back Virtual Reality headsets. You have to have the processing power to render to each eye, which is why VR apps are typically less beautiful looking than their regular counterparts.
    3. "They just want to force online multiplayer so people buy consoles"
    Probably. I wasn't really arguing against that in this video. In fact I mention the fact that the success of Xenoverse is probably what led to the decision to focus on online multiplayer and not put resources towards local multiplayer.
    4. "Sparking doesn't look that realistic, what is stressing the console?"
    Particle simulation and destructible environment logic is more intensive than you might think. This is what was cited by the devs as a major bottleneck on processing power.

      sparkin zero want last and have playback value if it's just mainly focused online when they cut the internet off the game will be useless. when you download the game and buy all them DLCs the corporation might say you don't physically own the game so we can take it back so you'll be renting a game & game console eventually

      Like if you just said “sleaze company was too dumb to prepare, and then they low effort the room of spirit and time” then explained how cameras/effects/gpu/ect work they might have paid more attention 😂

      Still, PS2 BT3 had an amazing graphics, physics, animation, models and effects and still had the split screen. For such an important feature they could've factored it in from the beginning like you say. Let's not forget how much more powerful the PS5 are compared to the PS2. I belive that time and budget contrainst are more at fault here.

    • @niftylittlename
      @niftylittlename 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@bloodmoney7968 arent you kind repeating the first statement? Saying the ps5 is strong doesnt mean anything besides that we need ps5 times x2 now. Bt3 was pretty within the limits of split screen, because they knew the limit. This game is pretty beyond the limits of split screen, because that limit didnt exist in their minds, so now they have to drag the game down to local multiplayer level, which they did.

    • @bloodmoney7968
      @bloodmoney7968 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@niftylittlename Ok, just so i can explain my point better, from a quick google search in 2014 "Sony claimed" that the ps4 is 43 times more powerful than the ps2. Now, let's get ps5 out of the way for a second since most of the extra power is getting wasted on 4k resolution and "higher and more stable framerate".
      How am i supposed to belive that a machine that's 43+ times more powerful than the ps2 can't handle a splitscreen?
      I am not blind, i can see that the game has a bunch of new and added effects, but I can also see that the character models for example have clearly visible edges meaning that ( for an artistic standpoint too) we can't really compare Sparking Zero with say, The Last of Us 2 or a similiar game.
      So my conclusion is that more than a power contraint we are in front of a time, budget and economic reason. And as an added reason, also another reason that would make more sense to me and that i haven't seen mentioned anywhere would be game visibility, since even with a wide screen, all the new 2d rubble effect cover 90% of the screen.

      This video is just wrong. By his own logic, the older consoles like the GameCube or even PS1 would lag and struggle to play in 4 player split screen, and everyone knows that those older consoles ran 4 player split screen just fine. This video is talking like 2 player split screen is nearly impossible to do when consoles are much more powerful than ever before. The real reason there's not a real Local Multiplayer in Sparking Zero is because they want us to play strictly online.

    • @PmNHawke
      @PmNHawke 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +33

      @@PARZ90swhile you have a point it's not accurate either. It's not the hardware but the software. If that was the case we would have games leaps ahead in performance compared to previous generations. To start with The issue is that the last decade has shown in terms of sales that people are willing to give up gameplay depth and local multiplayer in general for more fidelity and gimmick events over anything. It is irrelevant how good the hardware is as long as all the current dev kits wether it is in house engines or unreal they are all designed to make the game pretty but not designed well enough for local multiplayer. The evidence in the decline in local multiplayer on all games is evident. It is irrelevant what a small minority like you and me say but the fact remains that most of the players (especially since the lockdown) are completely fine with online multiplayer with no local co op. While there is a monetary incentive for going online only sales prove that this is the new trend. So while I agree with you it is possible to make split screen possible on a technical level, we are witnessing a product of the current trends in gaming and honestly there is nothing we can do about it. That being said I was surprised about spilt screen to be included this late to begin with so credit where it's due.

I know Sparking Zero is definitely not made cheapily, but come on, why do we keep boasting a new console generation, generally newer PC graphics cards when all we do is half-measures?
    It should at least be a toggle, if ever they are worried about famedrops dropping, to just lower the graphics for local. The PC community will just release a mod and it will quickly prove that local mode can run smoothly on other maps.

    Less so technical difficulties. And more so no devkit is prepared for it anymore because of brainlits who only care about the best graphics and 60+fps 24/7. And thus that's where game development got pushed towards the past 6 or so years, towards a single player experience with online multiplayer as an option. It can easily be done again without sacrificing much performance, but it would require basically a new engine that could support it, and getting the funds to develop it would be nearly impossible with how big game companies don't give a damn unless it makes them millions upon millions guaranteed.
    Granted there is some quicker fixes like "plugins" for the engine. But if not made properly, it can lead to more issues than what it's worth.

BT3 stages were uniteractive blocks with a couple destructible objects on it that would disappear completely after taking any damage

      PS2 games were designed with split screen in mind from the start. Plus the split screen in the PS2/Wii/Gamecube games all had reduced effects in split screen. This game was never designed with it and quickly added it in. You still have to optimize for the additional viewport that is now rendering the game from a different view.

    Kinda as mentioned in this video, the gamers of today are not the gamers of the olden days. Where once 30fps was the norm and acceptable, gamers get mad if a game is locked at 60fps. The average casual gamer of today doesn't care for functionality, they care for graphical fidelity and how smooth it can run. Most people probably wouldn't even give PS2 games a shot just because they're low poly. It's sad but the truth.

Not to mention that Borderlands 3 maps are bery detailed and have tons of enemies, while DBZ has pretty much empty maps with only 2 participants.

    There is still zero reason for split-screen to not be enabled on PC.
    Also, it's more than possible that just locking the fps to 30 would enable more stages to be playable even if it's only a small amount of them. It's 2024 and it's running on UE5, I doubt that the game's Physics and animations.
    If you ask me, I would even be satisfied with a low particle and low shadows option if it meant I would be able to play split screen on more stages.

    The issue for me and many others are that our friends cannot afford the game or simply have other games that are cheaper and bigger on their wishlist backlogs, so in many friend groups, one or maybe two will purchase the game, the rest will use steam remote play together with those who purchased the game to play split screen with each other, and only a single map will really destroy the amount of times you can replay the game with your friends before it becomes boring due to the environments
    They don't have to make all the maps open, but what about just 5 of them? Like small maps such as a tournament stage with not much going on other than flat ground? They made the game too expensive in 3rd world countries to not have good local multiplayer support, and I don't trust Bandai with online multiplayer ever since they messed up *all* the Naruto games online play, including the one marketed towards specifically online play. Even till today, whilst my friends also have the Naruto games, when we play together, we rather play via Steam remote play together (SRPT), since we won't suffer from the 2 second input lag and random disconnects lol. They obviously keep messing it up and never fixing it, so I'd prefer them to just put more focus where they are good at.

      @@AndrewsCards no other dbz has the fidelity and amount of things to render on the screen. The game includes more complex geometry, character models, heavy particle effects. Yeah other dbz games had similar effects, but as time and technology progress the effects become more demanding and require more resources from the system. High end rigs would be able to handle processing, but it seems the current systems are not capable. Rendering the particle effects, character models, and destroyed environments twice would take a heavy toll on the system. It is essentially the same reason VR games that have a normal mode have significantly reduced graphics and effects including RE8. If they lowered the graphics to improve split screen it wouldn't make sense, because many studies show splitscreen isn't as popular now as it was then. It would be essentially removing resources for a mode only a handful of people would play consistently. It's not like sf6 where the characters share a screen, it would be like having 2 versions of street fighter 6 running at the exact same time on the same system. It just isn't worth the extra development time and resources. The mode is still there, just minus the destructive environments to compensate.

      Pc will have mods to make this a realistic idea. It does make sense why they gave an option with limited maps. The bigger problem would be for 1. Pcs that don't have newer cards that will have problems running split screen. 2. Local multi-player is not worth the money to invest the time and camera work since it's not the focus of the game anymore. Its j a sign of the times. But again mods will come out for pc to make this a thing im certain !

    I have an idea of what they can do to keep split screen but also have an selection of maps:
    1. Space, alot of "space" is in the space maps for example in xenoverse 2 the space map is one of the most spacious maps i mean its literally space
    2. Kai relm, its spacious enough for both alot of map destruction and also split screen!
    3. Cell games arena, same as kai relm but with more space!
    4. Other world, self explanatory (literally just like hyperbolic time chamber but just with floating stone shaped balls in the sky....and rocks in the ground cause why not lol)

    I hope we at least get a stage in space for split screen. Like it’d be very similar to the Time Chamber as far as emptiness goes.
    I also wish they could have a toggle for stage damage effects because what’s stopping the devs from making split screen will also make it difficult for online when players have lackluster internet connections.

    Tenchaichi owes a lot of its success because of local multiplayer. That it was even something to consider including it or not baffles me. As much as it is technically difficult then being able to do it on ps2 specs with relatively large maps and ok resolution they shouldn’t have a problem doing it today after optimization

    • @TheVivi13

      It owes a lot of its success to local multiplayer.. in a time that online multiplayer didn't exist. Comparing PS2 specs for a PS2 game and suddenly drawing a linear line and being like "well durr a PS5 game should be able to split screen a PS5 spec game" is a lot of ignorance. They probably could make split screen work on more maps.. by drastically lowering the quality of the rest of the game's models, animations, supers, and stage destruction. Personally I do not prefer that trade off. 99% of people are going to be playing this single player or online.

    So the PS1 could handle split screen just fine but the PS5 cant? Even with 4 player split screen I never noticed a drastic change in frame rate. Your reasoning in this video would suggest otherwise. I feel like this video is how you're coping with them just simply not wanting people to enjoy local multiplayer anymore and they want to replace it with online play only. Its pretty obvious what they are doing.

    • @crestofhonor2349
      @crestofhonor2349 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      You really aren't understanding it. It's not a drop in process. Games back then had a single player mode and then were intended to have a split screen mode from the beginning. You still need to optimize for split screen and that wasn't considered in this game until people said they wanted it

    • @localcomicnerd
      @localcomicnerd 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      It's not even that the graphics of the game have increased, more particles have more effects, more stage destruction, if the console is already running at 80% to run just one map, what happens you you plug in split screen making the console have to double the amount. It's going to drop and make the game run horribly. We're still getting split screen which even them given us that says alot.

    • @GoldenPSP
      @GoldenPSP  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      Split screen doesn't scale with modern hardware. It'll ALWAYS be the cost of rendering twice (or more depending on how many split views).
      Difference is older games accounted for this early, because local multiplayer was the only method available. And they were able to optimize for it using methods I mentioned in my video.
      I'm not disagreeing with anyone saying Sparking ZERO should have proper local multiplayer. It should have been thought of from the start. I'm saying that it's not trivial to implement and requires proper planning and design.

      Just saying, if the game aimed for Ultimate Tenkaichi's astetic instead, a less demanding use of their graphics, I would've preferred that to what's going on now with Sparking Zero.
      70$ for an incomplete game is just madness...

      No. You have to render multiple times then. That is literally why split screen isnt a popular feature anymore. Games are 1000x more complicted than a decade ago.
