How to become the most hated F1 Team

  • The takeover of Sauber F1 Team by Stake has caused quite the stir. Sauber have been racing in Formula 1 since 1993 but has history in motorsport dating back to the 1970's. Sauber have been a staple in F1 for many years and even managed to win a Grand Prix thanks to Robert Kubica in 2008. But why is this takeover so controversial? And why do I think they could be the most HATED team in 2024? Enjoy!

      Right? Like how people get upset at the oil sponsors xD People love to virtue signal. "gambling bad, oil bad", even though they're watching a sport mostly propped up by those two things. If any of these people actually cared and weren't just looking for good boy points, they'd stop watching F1 and never talk about it ever again. They won't though, because they don't actually care. It's just a disappointing end to any team's identity. Even without the whole issue involving Stake, it feels wrong to not have the actual owners of the team in the team name. Did we miss a memo that Stake bought out or got majority share of Sauber somewhere? Even as a new fan this isn't right that you just throw out a name like Sauber then put in the name of the sponsor there. It's like if Mercedes decided to rename their team into Petronas Formula 1 Team or if Red Bull turns into Oracle Formula 1 Team. Just the worst way you can retire a big name in the sport is to replace it with a name that doesn't reflect the team's identity.

    • @Pikktryne
      @Pikktryne 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Lmao... they have said there will be no Sauber in the name for a long time apparently... The teams identity will always change and nothing lasts forerver...
      No one in the paddock that actually works with this could or should ever make a decision for a team to keep an ''identity'' look for outside viewers, that would be stupid xD And that would mean the team would definetly fail...
      And that's just how it feels for you, identity in a team is just a part of our perception as fans, a team needs real things to function, not an empty name that holds them back for nothing...
      If the former Alfa-romeo Sauber kept the Sauber name just for identity, they would have lost all race pedigry, they would not have an identity anymore as Sauber anyway. Let Sauber F1 rest where it deserves to be... do you seriously believe it is sad that a name like Sauber doesn't become detrimental to itself?
      A team that makes a stupid decision like that would compromise they pace on track, therefore, have 0 pedigree or propper racing identity. That's why Sauber F1 is gone and could never happen again.

      Last time I checked the name of any entity is part of who they are. It's not just some bunch of words that gets tossed around like it doesn't mean anything.
      Would you want to call Haas as "Rich Energy Haas F1 Team" despite the controvery around that brand? If the name is just a name, then there should be no problem still calling them that, after all it's just the same team...right? Or maybe that team name with Uralkali is better? Or how about calling Mercedes as "Brawn GP"? Or would you want the aforementioned names of calling Red Bull as "Oracle F1 Team" or Mercedes as "Petronas F1 Team"?
      You insist that it's just a name change and that there's no big deal about the name. So I guess your name doesn't matter to you as well and people can instead call you whatever name they wish?

    • @Pikktryne
      @Pikktryne 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@dustinabigan2776 Yeah... An F1 team name change is the same as me changing my name...and yes if i was called something else... I would obviously have the same identity wtf xD
      And all i am saying is the most important part of an F1 teams identity is how they work to make pace on track... Money is needed for that. And it would cost them alot tm have the Sauber name. Let it rest as an F1 legend and a great team as it was :)
      That's all i am saying. Pace on track and results reflects who the team are and how they are doing.
      In F1, to succeed you have to be ruthless, you can't cling to stuff like that. Their identity needs to be, everything for the team and everyone in it. Not everyrhing for a name ;)
      That's the actual game. This is sports, not some silly carneval stuff.

    As someone who doesn't like gambling, never has and (hopefully) never will, I don't have a problem with Stake becoming the title sponsor (which they already were alongside Alfa Romeo). Would have preferred KICK to be the full-time sponsor, but in a sport where Saudi Aramco of all companies is the main sponsor of another team, scummy sponsors have been a constant since sponsorship was first allowed in '68 and crypto and gambling sponsor pretty much every team nowadays (including FTX sponsoring Mercedes of all teams until the SBF scandal) I just can't go the moral route to Sauber.
    Also, I can see people who don't like this because of Sauber not being the full-blown official name (which is what I've seen from most people), but on the other hand that name hasn't been on the team since Leclerc was a rookie driving for them; in fact, this will be the first time since that year (2018) that the chassis will receive the Sauber name in some way (even if it's shared with KICK).

Another thing that is not good for the optics of Filet F1 team is most everyone can see that they only made this deal to make money, and the second they feel they are not making enough money they are either going to irreparable change the team or pull out and potentially destroy the livelihood of hundreds of people. Additionally, sponsors like this immediately call in to question the criteria that F1 uses to determine who will bring benefits to the overall brand quality of F1 while actions like this are allowed and meanwhile Andretti is still getting the short end of the stick. It really makes you think.

The team name in this case is Stake F1 Team Kick Sauber. But it's not the team name that appears on the on-screen graphics. It's the Chassis Name that they show on screen. I just thought the cars looked cool. Especially the Jordans! 😍I would say parenting comes into it too though. I'll explain it. When someone else is funding you, you are beholden to them. The funder will have ways to "just not pay you" as a business. There will also be numerous clauses, on both sides, and the other funders will have clauses that allows them to bail out early if enough people dump the contract. So they don't get sunk pumping money into something that won't provide results.
      In the stock market, this is just under the 10% margin. In racing the margin is even smaller.
      Stake has 3y contract for 140au, that's approx 1.4mil US Dollars per race.
      There is 49.2 million fans following F1 in the US alone. if 1% of them bid $5 on a 1:2 outcome, that's a loss of 2.46mil in a single race, in one country alone. The odds for success per race are fall smaller than that in most bets. Like a 1:200 to 1:10 rate.
      A single mid tier bet happening in the season would cost Stake more than their entire funding of the program.
      If such a underdog scenario was becoming likely do you honestly believe Sauber would not have every reason to have something happen that would manipulate it towards not happening? Do you think that another crashgate wouldn't happen?
      Stake has around a 24% control of Sauber's finances. Think about what means for a team.
