I'm so mad that got this set as a child because I had no concept of value and never kept him built. I still have his mask though, silver lining. Fantastic set
WOW. That Vezon MOC needs it own video, for sure. It's so unbelievably gorgeous, and I feel like I definitely didn't get to see enough of it. What an outstanding MOC!
To be fair, the set for fun size Mata Nui was likely quite intentionally made to be somewhat lanky and relatively unimpressive because it was supposed to reflect his nature as a _humbled_ god.
2:21 I saw this set at Comic Con a couple years ago. Guy had it in a ziploc bag, was selling it for $75, though he admitted that he didn't know much about it (booth was mainly trading cards, like Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh, and the set was left behind by his son). I didn't get it because I had already bought a bunch of souvenirs. Suddenly I'm regretting not getting it.
I adore this set so much. Everything about it feels just right. The huge weapons. The bulky legs. The huge mask. Even small things like the axel joiners giving the illusion that the build is even larger than it is. I was lucky enough to win this set in an online auction for £275/527 AUD. Through a sheer miracle, no-one else bid on it whatsoever. With all of that out of the way, I've seen Vezon, the Disaster in a couple of different videos, and each and every time it amazes me. It has a similar feel to how Karzahni is represented in the comics, and I love it so much.
I'm not sure I agree that TMN is one of the best Bonkle sets ever. Its proportions and color blocking are just.. really off in a way I can't quite articulate.
There seems to be a retrospective re-evaluation around the set as of late. Just compare All-Out Brick's review from a few months ago to the BZPower review from 2009, they're both night and day. What's causing this? Well, your guess is as good as mine.
I got this set as a kid and it has not been assembled since the week after i got it, always took apart every set i use to get. though that's still only my second greatest regret behind not keeping any of the canisters. at the very least i still have every bionicle piece i ever got.
I had mine at 50€ with a bunch of other sets... it was the deal of the millenium.... and to this day, i am still so happy with this set XD i fully understand why you would regret not buying it at 125$ ^^
Oh yeah.... The Titan Mata Nui.... I always wanted his set, but never got him.... Luckily.... I was able to build him myself... Titan Mata Nui... And oh boy... Did it turn out magnificent MOC. And that whole "BUFF" scenario.... Doesn't fall short in that one ... I followed the set's instructions with my own modifications, and it turned out: Giga Chad Mata Nui.... The chad Nui of buffness.... And it became a running joke in my community😂 And I am proud of that creation....
Got and built mata Inuit twice as a kid. Lost the mask when I brought him with me on a trip and the other mask just went missing. Also had that trans clear g2 how which I gave to my mom for safe keeping and that disappeared two. I have a knack for losing expensive shit.
As a kid I didn’t want this because I was mistaken and believed the mask was in yellow like the Glatorian Mata Nui, and so didn’t buy it unfortunately! I think these sets would have been more popular with more armor in Pearl gold
i got two set of him. one that i build and a box that never been open with all the pieces in it. i got some people try to sending 3k just to have. and i sead no 😁
My hot take is that this set does not look that good. I know, sacrilege, but I'm coming from a completely different perspective since I never grew up with contraction as a staple of my LEGO collection, and I'm sure I would have more fondness with its functions, but I'm going based off what I can see in images. The legs are just so huge compared to the arms, there's weird bits of color inconsistencies in terms of blocking with what's yellow, keetorange, and gold, and then while those pistons are functional, they just don't look as aesthetically pleasing as other uses of them have been (not to mention another different color being added in), and certainly not like the molded ones that don't really serve a purpose on many Bionicle pieces. And perhaps he's also almost too big. Reduce by 30-40% to have him match a couple of the other Titans from Bionicle's history. Perhaps it's also because this was listed as Toa Mata Nui and not something else because the Glatorian version of him was the Toa version, but since plain Mata Nui was being used for the canister set, a distinction had to be made for the titan version. Perhaps there's a better name like The Great Spirit: Mata Nui, but I think even in just the story, this set doesn't really exist, it's just meant to be a larger version of the canister set, he never actually becomes huge until he gets in the giant robot, which looks nothing like this set either. With all of that said, $50 is pretty cheap for a Bionicle set with that many pieces, small as some of them may be, and I won't say I wasn't tempted because of that golden Ignika since I liked it so much from the 2007 commercials, but I never went for it, and maybe I'd have a better appreciation for the set had I been able to mess with it in hand.
I actually clicked on hoping for inspiration for something using his color scheme. Not sure how I'll incorporate the ripcord launcher I want to build it around, though
I will suprise you i come from europe and i did buy this set uncomplete but with his mask and mask from karzahni set for only 5 dollars becouse seller give it name a toys

And this is the main build
I parted this set out. It was still quite expensive. The mask cost me 75 dollars alone.

I made a Moc that used Toa Mata Nui's thighs and torso pistons, but pretty much everything else is different including the thigh armor
Toa mata nui gets sturdy

Imagine complaining about not buying a set you already bought NEW. Human greed never ceases to amaze me when it comes to bionicle
It sucks that the pieces are prown to breaking.

Dont have any sets with it, but you could use it in a toa of water. I was thinking something like a propeller like you find typically on boats
