Jpusa thank you for all the help you gave to me my family, back in the 1980’s. God bless you all, it is now 2021, and I am still thankful for the help; that you still continue to do,

When I inherited 20 thousand dollars from a dead uncle two years ago, and I was homeless. I went to the building for the seniors 55 and over, On Wilson Street and hazel, that is owned by the Jesus People, and I applied for a room there. The rent was like $600.00 a month . The guy told me I had to have a job or a co signer. I told him I had inherited the money, and could pay the rent for the whole year all at once, since I had no job, and had no noone to co sign for me and I was homeless. . I thought that since it was at once, a christain organization, and me having the whole years rent would get me the place since he would get whole years rent at once , and that they would care being that they were christains.
He said It does not work that way, and I would need a co signer seeing I had no job, and he wouldn't take the years rent in advance. I was disappointed , as I thought them being a christain organization they would be more concerned for me then the money, being more like Jesus and less like the world.
I was wrong. . I then thought if the christains wont rent to me then nobody in the non christain world will rent to me either, even with 20 thousand dollars, so I ended up fortunately getting a room in the YMCA. Even the YMCA gave me a little bit of a hard time, and said I needed a letter stating that I was homeless, and I was working with the heartland alliannce group for services and they gave me a paper stating I was homeless , and went to them for services. Then I got the room at the YMCA. Still if I did not have the letter the christain organization the YMCA would have rejected me as well. The YMCA did not give me a lease but told me to make out 6 money orders and give them one each month. Are we sure all these groups that call themsleves christain these days are christain, when they turn people away like they did me, or give them a hard time. I am christain. I bet jesus would not have given me such a hard time to get a room if I had the money to pay all at once for the whole year or two.
Anyways I was hurt but over it now. The ironic part about the Jesus people is I remember in the early 1970s in Uptown Chicago when i was a kid, when the Jesus people use to walk around with long hair telling people Jesus loves you, and they were from the streets themselves, which is why i was surprised they turned me away for an apartment as their roots are from the streets. I thought they would understand . I do remember when they were at friendly Towers. Thanks for reading God bless.

I'm sorry that happened to you sir I had a similar experience with them.
Sadly some people are Christian in name only and the love of Jesus Christ is not in their heart.
Jesus said in Matthew 7:15 that there would be wolves in sheep's clothing.
Saint Paul said that even Satan himself could appear to be an angel of light.
It is unfortunate that so many individuals wearing the title of Christian are corrupt evil and uncaring.
Hope you are doing better now.

I spent about nine months in JPUSA in the mid 1980's and it was a wonderful time - so many people in this film are those who I knew and hung out with each day. I was blessed by the communtiy and thank the L-RD for them all.

I was a 19 year old living at JPUSA in 1990. I had no clue about the abuse, as did most everyone, I presume. It does put a stain on what was a good experience for me. Tolerant, they were at JPUSA. I was caught taking LSD. They didn't make much of it. I ended up leaving of my own accord a short time later. I still held JPUSA in high regard. I won't judge now. But I think some accountability to the victims and some repentance before God is in order.

JPUSA changed my life in a good way. I was never abused. I saw no abuse. And I am eternally thankful for Jesus People.

it's a shame there's only 246 views...These people may not be flashy, showy, or polished, but they REALLY know how to serve Christ! They affected my life and i know MILLIONS of others too.

Remove all of the religious dogma and doctrine, and it was a community of loving people. I was a part of it. I was an evangelical christian for over thirty-five years, and now live a life of joy as Atheist.
