  • This is an outstanding documentary on the history and philosophy of Calvary Chapel. It demonstrates how through one man's (Chuck Smith) faith and obedience, God began a revival in a period known as the Jesus Movement. This video chronicles the trials that Chuck Smith faced by stepping out into a ministry and trusting that "Where God Guides, God Provides."

My dad was saved at CCCM listening to Pastor Chuck. My mother was saved by wanting "Papa" Chuck's joy. I was raised in a home where the Bible was the most important book in the world. I recently rededicated my life to Christ and have been ingesting the Word of God by listening to Papa Chuck's Word For Today messages. To God be the Glory!

34 years ago my sister went to America for holiday and came back with Chuck Smith teaching cassettes through the bible,I was only 21 years old,
and only just received Jesus,up until now this man of God still ministers to me every day, with the advanced of technology ten years ago I download the through the bible to an mp3 then to an mp4 and now an iPod and listen to the word of God nearly 6 days a week.
How much i wanna thank him face to face for his input in my spiritual walk with the Lord but I guessed I’ll have to wait till i meet him in

Oh, how I miss Pappa Chuck! The tears are welling up just seeing his face again. I went to the original 4 Square Church - The Little Chapel - To the Tent - Then to the big Sanctuary. I knew him from the age of 12 until his death. My heart aches to see his sweet smile, and remember him coming to see my mother on her deathbed and then conducting her funeral. He was like a second father to me growing up. As a young girl, I wasn't aware of all he did for Calvary, only what he did for Jesus and Us. That was what mattered and still should at Calvary Chapel...but...it is not at all like it was when I went there. Our foundation was God's word, and all I saw was Jesus. He taught us to keep our eyes on Jesus, we did, and we still do. This "New Wave Progressive Christian Church" Is NOT what Calvary taught...Shame on the new pastors that literally changed the name of Calvary Chapel and removed the Holy Spirit Dove from the church. The new wave Christian church is NOT following scripture and bending it to fit their will, not GOD's Will. I hate seeing what is going on in my home church and it breaks my heart. *** IF YOU WANT TO KNOW THE TRUTH ABOUT THE " JESUS MOVEMENT" YOU MUST WATCH THIS AND SEE WHAT KIND OF MAN CHUCK SMITH WAS A loving, happy, grounded in his faith in God and his love of his church, and a wonderful business man. Not at all like he was portrayed in the movie.

Just let go, and let God. God doesn't need any help from us. It is all in his hands." But, I cannot help but think that he would not be pleased with how the church has turned out. But, knowing him, I know he would put his trust and faith in Jesus to do exactly what he wills and just sit back and watch. God Bless you for your kindness.

I then moved back to HB, and people told me when I get back home ,go to Calvary Costa Mesa. That was some of the best advice I ever received. I actually started to listen to Chuck when I was in the hospital before I attended in person. Probably bumped into each other back then, but I moved away and I am still here by God's grace.

Pastor Chuck, Pastor Romaine, Lonnie, Love Song; seeing Raul Reis again, and always Greg Laurie (I remember him saying one night that Jesus was the kind of guy who would sit around a bonfire with surfers on the beach and eat a Big Mac with them). And He was and He is.
I’m so thankful I had this opportunity as a teenager to be a part of this ministry from the beginning. A blessing that sunk deep into my heart that I carry still today.

The background music is a distraction. Softer or not all. Otherwise a good video. I really wish had an equalizer to remove the music.

i think he hit the nail in the head when he said the more denominational you become the more carnal your perception is and the less denominational you are the more spiritual. All you really need is a full understanding of the bible, no religion is required, it's just sad that very, i mean very few people ever read the bible in it's entirety as well as cross referencing to connect the dots but rather go by he says she says; hence the birth of religion. Pastors don't have the exclusivity to wield the Holy Spirit "whosoever readeth, let him understand" Jesus Christ Matthew 24:15. Church is simply for revival and not for understanding it just so happens that pastors put in the time to actually read and yet misinterpret by adding philosophy (a dangerous approach) and claiming that the "Holy Spirit" is guiding them instead of letting the bible's Holy Spirit speak for itself. In truth denominations base their whole faith on a single verse instead of the whole message in it's complexity. Maybe it's high time that we actually start reading the whole bible, scrutinizing it's message until we realize what the truth really is instead of living comfortably and not care what the testimony of Jesus Christ is! The ten commandments(written by the immutable God himself), the resurrection and death of the dead in the Second Coming of Jesus Christ and the Sabbath are case in point. Revelations 12:17

So he was afraid of the holy spirit interfering with his nice church service. Sad , that grieved the holy spirit.😢. Chuck was a good and decent man who offered fatherly care. But he missed so much.

Decently and in order. It’s biblical. We often had afterglow services on Sunday evening where the Holy Spirit was invited to move, decently and in order or it probably wasn’t of the Lord. God calls us to use discernment.

Pastor Chuck’s voice is so soft the music drowns him out to my ears. Background music is very distracting when trying to listen to someone talk. I’m sorry. Just an old woman grumbling here.

BAD editing!! The background piano was WAY too loud and distracting so I had to stop watching after a few minutes to save my sanity which was a bummer cause I really wanted to hear Chuck's story - he's my all-time favorite pastor.

28:30 “The word will have a healing effect on your body” really pastor?, chapter and verse please, the word (Jesus) saved me from my sin and from hell, my body is still sick 30 years later after attending CCCM in 1990. This sounds like suspiciously the false health and wealth gospel to me. Go tell this to Jonnie Ericsson Tada .. a women ravaged in body .. but mightily alive in the spirit.

You are focused too much on the physical. There are Tens of Thousands that have been cleansed of drug addiction, disease and demonic influence. There are many whose bodies are NOT completely healed yet God still uses them MIGHTILY, ie Jonnie Ericsson Tada. Listen More to Checks sermons. He is the LAST one ever to teach health and wealth

Watch the documentary "What God Hath Wrought" made right before Chuck Smith passed it talks about the Calvary Chapel Movement and the Jesus Movement and also gives credit to Lonnie Frisbee and the role he played. It has 40 plus interviews with Pastors (Franklin Graham, Greg Laurie, Raul Ries etc..) and Musicians. It is Chuck Smiths personal documentary told in his own words. It's a fantastic documentary! You can get it at screensaversentertainment.com
