A fantastically underrated piece of music (composed/scored by Keith Mansfield) that brings back memories of being allowed to stay up late in the days when TV used to "closedown" for the night. I still get get goosebumps especially at the last 20 or so seconds.
DJGM1974 wonderful comment, thank you. I know I’m not alone in feeling nostalgic hearing this beautiful tune, comforting voice and seeing that Granada clock display. Teary eyed tbh transported back to much simpler times with passed over loved ones still gracing my life. The power of music!
When itv went 24h, they just filled it with cheap imports, old archive programmes, and low rate B movies, it was a tradition to fill the night time hours with rubbish that few people would even bother to stay up and make an effort to watch...what do we have now? A live output from a home shopping channel aka Ideal World and itv nightscreen!!!
If you still don’t feel like going to bed just yet your independent local radio station has music and chat throughout the night, just remember to switch off the TV set…
YOU KNOW WHAT, I DON'T THINK I EVEN CARE ANYMORE I DON'T EVEN CARE THAT THE GRANADA MUSIC IS PLAYING ON THE WRONG CHANNEL WHY?! GUESS WHO'S IDEA THAT WAS SGT DUMMY'S

Beautiful
and The JH used this
I always hum this song when I'm cooking. Makes a great way to count off about two minutes.
Reminds me of Saturday or school holiday mornings in my PJ's playing with my Matchbox cars on the carpet waiting for TV to start up.
Those were the days
Losing Closedown marked the death of all that's decent and proper (probably)

“....and if you’re still there, don’t forget- turn off the set”
It’s a little bit too bombastic for the dead of midnight, but it’s a spectacle to...hear. God that analogy didn’t work out.
Seems archaic in today's norm of 24 hour-a-day TV scheduling and broadcasting that we once used to experience this sort of thing.
They use this music in a pub quiz I go to.It’s used in a picture quiz that’s on the screen .
YOU KNOW WHAT?! I DON'T EVEN CARE ANYMORE FOR THE 69420th TIME!

Didn’t Charles Foster sign out just before this?
Yes, Charles Foster was head continuity announcer at Granada but it was Colin Weston who signed off with the last Granada closedown in 1988.
Wow granada studios in 1980
