I actually watched this live when it happened; I suspect the bosses at Granada were not too happy at Phil Sayer's "glasses gag" as he departed shortly afterwards!
I like Phil Sayer, quite a nice personality on TV and radio. He was also on BBC Radio Manchester and BBC GMR as well as car review programmes on Granada Men And Motors.
He also announced on BBC1 North West and read the local news, He did pre-recorded announcements for British Rail in the London area and the London Underground. th-cam.com/video/UlWZnKCHfNI/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/dk5TurbaCJY/w-d-xo.html
Phil’s colleague Graham James voices the promo prior to closedown. My main knowledge of Phil was the many years he’d inform us about the trains. I’m not a big fan of the current voices. RIP Phil.
Yes the very man himself, he did not stay with Granada for long before moving to BBC North West, clip of him on BBC1 North West th-cam.com/video/dk5TurbaCJY/w-d-xo.html
Unfortunately I have a few that just like going through and disliking videos, I think if they don't like the videos why bother watching them, so they are just wasting their time clicking through.

For the first twenty seconds of that K shoes advert I thought it was a PIF, particularly when the Gary Watson voiceover kicked in.
Totally agree.
I loved the programme rundown theme, and took me some years to discover it was by the Yellow Magic Orchestra!
I used to love that closedown music. Think they used it to open up as well.
They used a different variant at closedown to the one they used at startup.
It's called "New Granada Theme", composed by Keith Mansfield.
Jim Bowen in the Tetley ad??
Great, smashing, super!
1:36 Yeah, we all know what a serious issue dandruff really is...
Early-ish outing for Granada's electronically generated clock.

I didn’t know Phil Sayer was an announcer for Granada Television.
He was, but only for about six months.
2:44 LOL
Is that Phil Sayer the station announcer
