    Godox has really upped the game where affordable lighting is concerned. I recently acquired the VL-150 (which does come with a great case BTW). Its a fantastic light, really affordable, relatively quiet and delivers a extremely good quality output. I can't knock it, its perfect for my needs.

      @@himesjon The FV200 has 2 fans, the FV150 has one.Surprisingly the sound is different yet levels SPL are around the same. They are not loud at all, I find them more than acceptable. The other day when my studio was rented they brought an Aputure 300X which was louder than my Godox lights. Can they be used if close to a mic? Probably not, depending on the type of mic. This video took me two weeks to produce.
      A casual conversation with like minded friends on Wednesday nights for an hour is something I do for my own sanity right now, working 12 hour days M-F in software architecture is super draining. The live streams are also an opportunity to "ping" my subscribers from my earlier, non-filmmaking related videos to finally unsubscribe.. I want a filmmaker audience who cares about this stuff, and my subscriber to watch ratio is pretty poor. I have considered creating a live stream channel specifically for my stream related content to simply not bother the 40% of people that are annoyed be live streams, but I think that's just too divisive and there's too much good industry related information coming out of the streams that I don't want to be stingy with for the curious. Content strategy is always evolving, and learning live streaming while doing live streams seems to be extremely relevant as we close 2020. I'm sorry the streams are bothering you, seriously. There's a ton of sick videos in the queue, just making the time to make them great is challenging. :)

      @@TommyCallaway I mean portable batteries with power outlets and inverters. They're usually called solar generators because most of them support solar panel input.
      They're a great alternative to gas generators on set and I'd prefer tanking one of those to set rather than a bunch of ballasts with v-lock batteries. I think Bluetti, Jackery and Yeti are the main players in the market.
      I've been researching them because I'm a fan of lights without a ballast like the SL series.

    Since I'm commenting up via caffeine :), can you do a Part II which shows the real world numbers between the 300X and Godox SL200mk2 with the Sekonic with diffusions on.
    I think that would be very unique --I think I've watched every good light vid on YT and have not seen such a test.

    • @TommyCallaway
      @TommyCallaway  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Bob - I can tell you, that if you go to "Maximum" output mode on the 300x, you will exceed the brightness of the SL200 mk 2, my reference in this video was specifically to the "constant output" mode, which makes sure the 300x stays the same brightness as you cycle through the CCT range. In complete transparency, i STRONGLY prefer the 300x over the SL200mk2 due to far superior build quality, v-mount ability, sidus link integration, and how it works with their remote (which is a much better design). The color quality is a touch better too, and the 300x has "auto" fan mode which will keep it completely silent under temperatures that I operate in my studio. The SL200 mk 2 offers insane value for the price though, if you're looking for a light that doesn't have all aputure's bells and whistles. I don't think a full video on a direct comparison of the two will really hit in terms of viewership, I have about 9 other videos in the backlog including my full tripod + fluid head showdown (which is scheduled before end of november.. going to be a ton of work to get that one done correctly). Always happy to answer direct questions for you.

    Great and detailed review Tommy! I watched this clip over and over and made me confident in finally investing in the Godox SL II series. What I realize, it would be helpful also with a comparison between the same brand and models. Color rendition between two or three of them. What I experienced: One SL200 II unit had a magenta tint, and the other one with a green tint (brand new same serial number batch). In fact, one of the SL 200 II unit match better with both my Aputure and LitePanels than it's own other SL 200 II unit, but not ideal. If I'd be happy with these, I'd get more to have a more unified temp/tint/color rendition, but these does vary too much. How would you approach color variation of the same units / models?

    Liked the video.
    Few questions. See maybe if you can help.
    I am a dog photographer and also create studio videos here and there.
    I have put my eye on sl300III. This was purely for video light use. Now I am starting to doubt my choice. Recently got a dog in the studio who was super scared of godox 600 light pops. Very quiet but the dog did not like it. I was wondering if any of godox lights have silent flash photography options. I think I have heard about it but wasn't sure. I don't want to resort to continuous light set up, but ideally, it still would be flash photography.
    Is there a way I could have in one light both silent flash photography and use for video lights too? Need to be pretty powerful as it will be my main continuous light set up for both photography and video.
    Thank you,
    Regards,
    Armands
