Perhaps some day we can have someone try to explain to him the fact that Knuckle's dad shoved him into the microwave as an egg, the weird amount of N*zi and Holocaust allusions in the Knuckles comics, Knuckles becoming Jesus for a bit, or that time he made a character die of LSD poisoning as mentioned in 1:01:16 . I am very glad that the IDW Comics are actually pretty good nowadays, though I do miss the insanity (mixed with absolute boredom, because Penders never really knew what to do with a setting after he built it up) that was early to mid-Archie.
There were some pretty fun arcs in the Archie Sonic comics, with some stuff in there offering higher highs than the IDW comics have offered so far. Some of the madness was entertaining, but I do not miss all the nonsensical insanity and the lowest lows that one has to trudge through to get to the highs, though. Penders having to do some issues nearly entirely by himself, and how he at one point was having to deal with the death of his father, was how we got material that I'm pretty sure killed some of my brain cells from reading it.

The text parallax on I Hate You was actually pretty cool stylistically. Just wish the words had something of more substance than edgy Tails dialogue. Could be a neat storytelling device in an original platformer.

I think the Archie Comics version of Sonic are a bit of fault to this as you see many of their fans reference that way much more and takes more inspiration from it with their OCs and recolor ideas.
The fandom is split between American, European and Japanese fans and some of them are very attached to the franchise. If you combine that with a persecution complex due to Sonic being considered bad nowadays and only having relevance through nostalgia and people laughing at weird Sonic fans. Some Sonic fans being furries and being attracted to characters like Vanilla and Rouge adds to the strangeness as well.

Penders did not sue Archie nor has he ever won a suit. Penders sued BIOWARE over Sonic Chronicles taking influence from Archie, then Archie counter-sued, fucked up so bad they had to settle out of court, and promised not to use Penders's work. SEGA can do whatever they want and Penders has no control over them. The only thing he could do is go after them if they used something he explicitly created. There are literally other echidnas in the Sonic movies!
Technically they did make echidnas in the sonic 2 movie. Even giving Knuckles a father. Technically Sega would win if they make new echidnas because ken doesn’t own that fictional sonic species let alone the actual irl animal.

@@brazilian_oak I assume part of it is Archie Sonic fans who were attached to the comic and are mad that Penders' actions led to its reboot and eventual cancellation and the other part is people massively overblowing the issue for dramatic effect. The only part of the main series that Penders' lawsuit actually affected was Sonic Chronicles which is a largely forgotten and unpopular game anyway.

Lara-Su is, according to Penders canon, Knuckles's five-greats granddaughter (or something, the generational gap is an estimation), a product of incest on some level (the family tree is more of a tumbleweed and is needlessly complex), and named after the infamous fanfic trope character Mary Sue. I think the Archie Comics version of Sonic are a bit of fault to this as you see many of their fans reference that way much more and takes more inspiration from it with their OCs and recolor ideas.
The fandom is split between American, European and Japanese fans and some of them are very attached to the franchise. If you combine that with a persecution complex due to Sonic being considered bad nowadays and only having relevance through nostalgia and people laughing at weird Sonic fans. Some Sonic fans being furries and being attracted to characters like Vanilla and Rouge adds to the strangeness as well.

Penders did not sue Archie nor has he ever won a suit. Penders sued BIOWARE over Sonic Chronicles taking influence from Archie, then Archie counter-sued, fucked up so bad they had to settle out of court, and promised not to use Penders's work.
SEGA can do whatever they want and Penders has no control over them. The only thing he could do is go after them if they used something he explicitly created. There are literally other echidnas in the Sonic movies!

@@brazilian_oak I assume part of it is Archie Sonic fans who were attached to the comic and are mad that Penders' actions led to its reboot and eventual cancellation and the other part is people massively overblowing the issue for dramatic effect. The only part of the main series that Penders' lawsuit actually affected was Sonic Chronicles which is a largely forgotten and unpopular game anyway.
