That stand up cutter is awesome One of my favorite tools for glue down removal. Don't have the fancy gripper usually just cut slits in the carpet and put our hand in there.
Thanks for the reply I am from the UK and we do things different over this side of the world I use hook blade in a dolphin knife to cut stuck down carpets it takes no time been doing it this way the last 30 years don't know if you have tried it but it's worked for me !! You are giving great tutorials on here for the up and coming fitters of the future well done for that !! I would love to come over and work with you for a week just to see how different we both do things would be fun .
I use a hook blade too here in the states. Never used a stand up cutter but it may be useful for not wearing you out so quick in the day and reducing back strain. My partner also owns a Wolff turbo floor stripper for really aggressive adhesives. Not a fan of the dolphins, they're a little too bulky for me. I use the orcon utility knife for my hooks.
Been doing glue down over 30yrs and that grabber is one of the most dangerous tools there are.ive seen more black eyes and. Broken noses when that thing turns loose.
Just purchased these items for my basement floor project- thanks for sharing! Does this use standard blades that i can get for replacements? Such as a 3/4 inch blade?
Yeah those stand up floor cutters are nice. I hate when my razor blade knife sometimes gets dull from the floor or just sometimes hitting a nail or metal, then it doesn’t cut through it all the way.
Never seen that stand up cutter or grabber before. The old knife cut and fingertip grab technique was the way I've done it , and swore I'd never do it again haha . Might pick up one of those grabbers , would it work for vinyls too? Do the teeth grab tightly together ?
German Montero I have never tried it but I’m sure that it would because the point on it is really nice and sharp so I would imagine it would go right under the vinyl
carpet guy 1970 That’s awesome I hope you enjoy them, remember the points are replaceable after they wear so much you need to replace the point, they are less than 10 bucks, you can usually get a few hundred yards of carpet Out of one point depending on how bad it stuck
After the carpet is pulled up, is there anything else you would need to do? Like is there glue residue that makes the floor rough? I have glued down carpet that’s damaged in my basement and needs to be removed. I planned to put down peel n stick tile that looks like wood floor
Sarah M For anything such as vinyl that is going down in the place of glue down carpet do you want to get the floor as smooth as possible perhaps scraping the glue if it’s dry enough
No. the church wants to have the concrete and seal it. They just show it to me today. We are in Cary NC, i do volunteer to help. They told me they are wiling to hire a contractor. I just want to see if I can help the church save money. I do strip floors but hate dealing with glue and paints.
Well done! carpet is just disgusting, really...hard floors [floorboards] or engineered laminate wood flooring and small rugs that can be washed or' beaten' are much better. I have a 22 foot long room to remove a 1980's foam backed carpet from victorian pine floorboards...yuck. Done it before, and it really is a horrid job. {UK}
Good golly, Miss Mollie! Too much talking and repetition of of How-to. Why floor level videos? This was helpful, but way too long. Sorry man, just some constructive criticism.
This is the tools............................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................that im gonna be using Good video, though.
This tool is so awesome! With that much glue down carpet to take up you would have raw fingertips without this. Good job!
Thank you for taking the time to make this. I'm pulling one up tomorrow. This will help me out
👍
This is great, I pulled maybe 40sq ft using vise grips and a box cutter yesterday, still have almost 4000sq ft to do.
Oh snap

Very nice video and explanation on the Crain cutter. Thank you for sharing!
Gold Coast Flooring | Carpet & Tile Care thank you for all your support
Thanks for the video! How much do you charge to take off the carpet per square ft?
Been doing glue down over 30yrs and that grabber is one of the most dangerous tools there are.ive seen more black eyes and. Broken noses when that thing turns loose.
Any suggestions on a chemical that may help release this adhesive.

R James Yes sir, regular Utility blades
Thank you thank you!!! This carpet is glued down tightly. I appreciate this so much!!
Glad I could help!
Thank you for this best video ever
Glad you liked it!
Yeah those stand up floor cutters are nice. I hate when my razor blade knife sometimes gets dull from the floor or just sometimes hitting a nail or metal, then it doesn’t cut through it all the way.
Have you ever tried a spiral cut. Can you do curves with that cutter? Looks like it really saves your knees.
Thanks for the info, very helpful.

jc86 Yeah the teeth close all the way up
Yes, it's a really quality tool if I haven't broke it yet, lol
@@FloorsbySouthernboys where can I get these tools? got alot of glued down carpet that needs to come up!?
can I use this cutter on an old wood plank floor to get glue down carpet off?
grettagrids links to the tools are in the description below the video, simply click on them and you are there
I have a piece of carpet that has been glued with some sort of black glue and I cannot get the carpet off. Any suggestions?
Man do I wish you lived in IL!
I dont come across alot of glue down carpet but if I ever do I will have to remember the grabber that you have
Ronda Viveiros Cool, they are reasonably cheap and very much worth having
What do you do if the carpet doesn't come up very well?
Cut it in small strips or use mechanical equipment
@@FloorsbySouthernboys yicks oh my Lord and Taylor.... Probably something that takes "manpower".
Would this cutter work on scoring sheet vinyl? In order to prep for the stripping machine
German Montero I have never tried it but I’m sure that it would because the point on it is really nice and sharp so I would imagine it would go right under the vinyl
Thanks 👍🏽
most of your amazon links are not working
I have a tiny bathroom that has glued down carpet. Who would I call?
local flooring store not a box store
Ghostbusters, of course!
I have both tools stand up jus push cutter and the carpet puller after years of pulling up carpet with vise grips and a knife

FloorsbySouthernboys thank you! I figured this would be the case. Sounds like I have lots of work to do!
Sarah M 👍
You can rent a buffer machine and a scrape away head for the buffer. The carbide blades will eat right through the glue removing it easily
What about if it was durafitted with underlay how wld the cutter work then
c starky Not sure I have never used it on double stick
One of my most hated tasks
Shawn Gilbert It can be quite enjoyable if you’re in the mood to work hard, it actually feels good sometimes to do that
FloorsbySouthernboys very true, glue down pull up just kills my fingers and back
Shawn Gilbert Yeah, but with a carpet pullers sometimes it feels good on the biceps just to use your arms by pulling a slight roar
what is the easiest way to remove that glue from the floor?
Jesus Christ My Savior I have used denatured alcohol and a razor scraper
trying to help our church. wondering if i can use some chemical with a 175 rpm. the church has a big floor.
Jesus Christ My Savior If you are installing carpet again there is no need to remove the glue, is that what’s happening
No. the church wants to have the concrete and seal it. They just show it to me today. We are in Cary NC, i do volunteer to help. They told me they are wiling to hire a contractor. I just want to see if I can help the church save money. I do strip floors but hate dealing with glue and paints.

Oakleaf700 Thank you and I agree
In which century you are working? Heard about self-driven Carpet-Strippers? That's the normal standard.....
Man o man, I was thinking this would be about a chemical you put down to break the bond.I started sweating watching this.
Wes Frazier Ha ha ha, this one here wasn’t actually too bad, it gets a lot worse than this one
@@FloorsbySouthernboys that's what I'm afraid of, I got 1500 sq ft of this in my basement. May learn to love it.
Show us a bad carpet, I've never had it come up that easy.
