Would you happen to know if I have used let’s say Isopropyl 70%, dish soap, and added water; what would I use to remove all chemicals from my carpet once the stain is removed?
Absolute life saver! Nothing I tried worked on getting rid of the stubborn red Gatorade stain off my carpet till I used the hydrogen peroxide+ammonia+heat method. And 1 hour later it’s vanished! Thanks a million! 🙏
I am a cleaner and this is spot on. I use my orbiter with microfiber bonnet with the 20 weight peroxide with ammonia. Way cheaper and works fantastic. With the orbiter it disappears instantly. His method will definitively work for the homeowner. Great video!!!

This is amazing!! I had a spot that I tried everything on. I was about to just try and patch the carpet. I did one more search to try find something that worked. So glad I found this. Just absolutely amazing!
Had a bad stain in our stairwell carpet for over a year (of course no one would take credit for it) but your techniques got it out. Greate video - thanks for posting!
great job! i subsd! my wife used a oxy wipe/w bleach in it and tried to take out a stain now the carpet is lighter color/ whitish? how do i fix that??? dye it? any suggestions? thank you!
I just came back here to comment again. I have been using this technique now for a month while deep cleaning a house that was pretty destroyed. This works so amazingly well!
I've followed your two step process and this definitely works! I have larger areas that I need to follow the part two process on. Is there any way to successfully complete step two without the hot water step? Any other method that will activate the hydrogen peroxide? I have a portable carpet cleaner. Thank you!
So grateful that I found this video. My dog grabbed a dropped Turmeric (curcumin) supplement and cracked it open on my $2500 wool rug. I was sure it was doomed - a big yellow spot right in the middle. Other than vacuuming, I was afraid to attach the stain with any liquid fearing I would just create a liquid dye, making the problem worse. So this solution of breaking down the dye vs removing the turmeric seemed almost a miracle. Thank you so much.
Hi I am trying to find the links in your vid to buy the products especially the 6 percent proxide I don't see them anywhere can you please tell me where they are? are are they still available?
My kids got some school made slime stuck in the carpet. Not so much a stain as just stuff that's stuck on the carpet fibers. I am curious how to clean it, but it also doesn't matter much as I'm moving to tile this summer.
By chance do you have a remedy to get rid of blue toilet bowl cleaner stains in white carpet?. I was cleaning my house and I didn't realize I had knocked over an open bottle of blue toilet bowl cleaner and it leaked onto my white carpet. I'm trying everything.
I'm really looking forward to trying your methods! I have a 400.00 wool rug that got screwed up because of my negligence in not acting quickly enough to remove stains. Nothing worked after trying everything except your method. Stay tuned...
Be very careful with wool it's a different ballgame. I'm a professional cleaner in Persian ,Oriental rugs and you must be careful. I use 3% strength hydrogen peroxide [don't use higher strength] and Vanish anti oxi pro and then water. Always test first on a small area on the back of the rug first.
im excited to try this on my huge kool aid red stain ive done a bissle pro treatment and that made the red become vibrant red .lol should i follow each step or can i just go to the stain removal with your products?
@NatalieLavoie-fr9nu This will work great for kool aid! The goal of the first step would be to remove as much of the red dyes, and sugar from the carpet as possible. If there are more contaminants that can be removed from the carpet, it is best to not skip part one. If you feel like you have gone over the stain a few times and the stain removal progress has stalled, it's probably okay to skip right to part 2. Good luck! :) -Jimmy
Great video. I am about to buy the items you kindly listed in UK but there is no MAX Household Ammonia 500ml can you recommend another in the uk please
Can you use hydrogen peroxide to neutralize chlorine bleach on shirt. Rather, lets say a few drips splash on a black shirt, will it stop it from eating a hole in the shirt? Obviously it wont bring the color back... And if so, could you do a video explaining the chemistry? I saw where answered a comment on the importance of adding ammonia from a chemistry perspective. Fascinating stuff! Keep up the good vids. Im about to check out yhe spot removal one 👍
It's nice to see you back! How would you attack large, set in stains of unknown origin? When we bought our house 10 years ago, the carpets were nice, except for a few large stains in various rooms. The carpet is cream colored. The stains are large and irregular shaped, like spills. They don't smell lie pee. Anyways, over the years, I've been cleaning them with store bought sprays and different bissel shampoos for my extractor. I'd say I lightened some of them by 50percent. When the light is just right, the stains still bother me though. Any advice, besides replacing the carpet? I haven't done the peroxide/ammonia yet.
Thanks! It’s great to be back. If they are really large stains that are already fairly light I might try using 6% hydrogen peroxide alone. Just spray it over the stained areas and allow the hydrogen peroxide to fully evaporate. Don’t use too much hydrogen peroxide, just enough to coat the stained fibers. If that doesn’t work, the next thing I’d try is step two from this video. Good luck!
Hello The Stain Guide. I have a carpet "disaster," LOL! I tried to cover a stain on the carpet in the home I recently purchased. I thought I purchased the "right" shade of "Rit Dye." I did not. So I used "Rit Color Remover." (Bad idea). Now the spot is green. I then accidentally spilled the bowl of Rit Color Remover on the carpet, upon finishing up my disaster. Now I have a second issue. In your opinion, would it be worth it to try this recipe you are using in this video? Or should I just replace the carpeting? Thank you in advance for any assistance or advice! :)
Hi @user-ur6xy5ob6t, sorry to hear about your carpet disaster. That’s a tough one. I am not familiar with Rit dye or rit color remover products so I can’t say for sure if anything from my video will help. I would guess that the methods in the video will not help though, I’m actually fairly certain they will not help. Rit dye is likely a synthetic dye that cannot be broken down by hydrogen peroxide. Rite dye remover is likely a dye stripper which would have removed some of the original carpet color as well as the wrong dye that was added. I think it’s best to replace the carpet or hire a carpet repair person to come do a patch on that area. Sorry I can’t help more. All the best!
What about using a steamer with a damp rag over the head instead of the pan? Im trying to apply this method for mobile car detailing and would need to deal with cofee stains in a matter of 1hr max. Stains are sometimes vertical on the foot wells of the car.
Great question! I would absolutely avoid using steam with this method. Steam is much hotter than 100C and I don’t recommend going above 70C for the water temperature. Hot temperatures can damage carpets. Hot temperatures with ammonia can strip dyes off the carpet fibers.
Hi QQ do you think this would work for years old stains…more specifically stains caused by food coloring? Also does it matter what type of pot I use? I’ve tried everything 😢
@helerious7 I have used this (part 2) on red, blue, green, and yellow food coloring and it absolutely works! It doesn't really matter what type of pot you use. Just make sure you are using a plastic wrap under the pot. If you decide to use this method, please come back and let me know how if worked for you! thanks for your question and good luck!!
I would recommend using the soap that Bissel recommends for the machine. The Bissel soap is designed to minimize resoiling, i.e., any soap residue left behind in the carpet after cleaning will not attract dirt. Many professional or commercial grade products have to be rinsed and even neutralized with a rinsing agent. I don’t recommend using commercial grade products in a Bissel type machine.
I have the bissel green machine. I've had good results wiih Bissell PRO MAX Clean + Protect and Rug Doctor Triple-Action Oxy Carpet Cleaner. The RugDoctor is best for the price. I plan to try Zep Carpet Cleaner next. I did also try Carpet Miracle which did an OK job but definitely not worth the extra money. Not surre which Bissell you have but make sure you're using the correct amount of cleaning solution. I also prefer to do an extra rinse pass.
Use that "Armor All" on your car seat.. I had a red stain for a year or so back in the 1985-86 era, Chrysler LeBaron, and was ready to trade it in, so bought Armor All and sprayed it on.. The red stain just rolled off like loose dirt.. The seats are usually treated so I'm assuming that is why the stain didn't dye the seat material..
When you say inorganic stain, are you referring to a synthetic dye stain, like food coloring, or soda? Some of the set-in stains from this video are actually synthetic stains (powerade, kool-aid, sunny d). I'd be happy to make more videos on synthetic stain removal. Let me know if there is a specific stain you are interested in. Thanks for commenting!
Thanks for the response! There are two stains I amdealing with: nail polish and PLAY-DO slime. IF you have a suggestion for those( stained on the carpet) that would be awesome. Thanks again!@@TheStainGuide
Yes, it will, but before you do it, I recommend rinsing the previous cleaning agent residue out of the carpet. This can be done with a shop vac or a carpet spot extractor.
Just tried your spot solution on a rug my neighbor gave me. The white portions of the rug are WHITE again! Now, if I can just get all the pet hair out of it...
This is amazing but what about wool or not color safe weaves? My son threw up red jello on my sheep wool rug and pretty sure it's ruined. There isn't much you can do. It's cream with brown spots woven in. It was so expensive. Heeeeelp.
I don’t recommend using part two on fine fibers like wool carpets as hydrogen peroxide degrades organic matter like hair and wool. The dyes in your carpet are almost certainly synthetic dyes which cannot be broken down using hydrogen peroxide. If you do decide to use part two to try and remove the stain, I would check to make sure that the dyes don’t cause any colour bleeding, I.e., the dyes don’t migrate when the carpet gets wet with the chemicals. The risks of damage are likely to the wool hair itself. Part two is the exact same procedure that is used in salons to bleach hair. When bleaching hair, the hair actually gets broken down/damaged and degrades. It is good to minimize the use of hydrogen peroxide of wool fibers and only use them when absolutely necessary. My advice would be to get the rug professionally cleaned. If a professional cannot remove the stain, you may choose to try part two of this video. Before you try it, do a colour fastness test to make sure that the dyes don’t bleed. Just note that repeating step two many times may cause some fiber degradation.
I have one on how to remove blood stains from carpet. Here is a link: How to Remove BLOOD STAINS From Carpet th-cam.com/video/zVr8y7bHw9o/w-d-xo.html I also have one on how to remove blood stains from a mattress.
Everybody on Amazon is complaining about that brand of ammonia do you have another brand the people aren't saying it's just water a d snells like water
@daby8399 Thanks so much for pointing that out. I have several different types of ammonia that I use for testing. I have never used the LA's until I saw your comment - I just happened to have an unopened bottle. I tested it after seeing your comment and you are right, ammonia concentrations appear to be very low. I have updated all the links as there are alternate products that will be more effective for stain removal. I have update the links in the video description with better products. I am sorry for linking the previous product which is quite a weak solution.
Peroxide does not work well at all for a spotter. You really need something a little soapy and slippery to loosen the spots from the carpet fibers. I highly recommend using the DIY Spotter for the first step. I works amazingly well.
Hi. My daughter ironed a new denim jacket on my cream rug, and now there is an orange size blue mark from the dye of jacket. Do you think this would work? @thestainguide
@@TheStainGuide Hi I've read somewhere that it's best to use the strongest h202 as possible (30 or 50%), so I purchased my 50%. Do you think this is a good advice?
Hi, Very good!! Might I please have an email contact for you? I have a carpet situation I need to share and pics to illustrate the issue. Hoping for advise!!
I was checking out the below video where they were using hydrogen peroxide solution instead. Wondering what do you think about using that solution vs the one you used? Also, if I don't have the extraction machines, is using a regular home vacuum an option? th-cam.com/video/ZDEscYyxZ0U/w-d-xo.html
There is a big difference between a wine spot and a wine stain. In that video, they are using hydrogen peroxide and soap to remove wine spots. In my opinion, hydrogen peroxide doesn’t do much of anything as a spotter. I think it would be just as effective to use a soap and water mixture, as it would be to use a hydrogen peroxide and soap mixture for spot removal. If you don’t have isopropyl alcohol, I would recommend mixing one teaspoon of dish soap with 3 cups of water and using that as a spotter. Hydrogen peroxide is a very effective stain remover though. But you need to use something like ammonia to activate it. You also need to give it a lot of time to react with the stain for it to work. Unfortunately a regular vacuum will not work to vacuum up wet spills. You will just end up breaking your vacuum.
@@TheStainGuide Thanks for sharing. Wondering hat do you think about buying the 70% isopropyl alcohol vs a higher concentration like 90% or higher? Between the isopropyl alcohol vs the "one teaspoon of dish soap with 3 cups of water ", wondering which one would you think would work better? I noticed there's commercial carpet cleaning solutions in a bottle like this OxiClean Carpet and Rug Stain Remover recommended by HGTV. Wondering what do you think about these comparatively? I don't have dry/wet vacuum, any suggestions on figuring out which one to buy? I tested using the hose of my Bissell vacuum to see if it can dry water from carpet, it did but not fully.
I highly recommend the isopropyl alcohol and dish soap recipe that I talked about in the video. It works extremely well. It will work much better than just soap and water. I’m not familiar with the products recommended by HGTV. Generally if the title of the product has “oxi” in it, it means that it has hydrogen peroxide in it. Oxi stands for oxygenated bleach, which is hydrogen peroxide. I have a wet/dry vacuum product recommendation in the video description. I like that one because it is small and powerful.
@@TheStainGuide Thanks for sharing. For the isopropyl alcohol, I see you used the 70% concentration. Wondering what do you think about using the 70% isopropyl alcohol concentration vs a higher concentration like 90% or 99% (is higher concentration necessarily better)?
My spotter recipe (Isopropyl alcohol, water, and dish soap) is intended to have about a 50% isopropyl alcohol concentration in the final mixture. I find this to be the perfect concentration for cleaning grease, oil, and petroleum spots and stains. If you used 90% isopropyl alcohol, you would end up with a final concentration of 60% alcohol in the final mixture. Not going to hurt, but the added alcohol is not going to help much on 99% of spots and stains.
Anyone use this on stains from kids modeling clay (it’s the kind that never dries out 🫠🫠🫠) my kids have gotten pea sized stains of clay of all diff colors on our crème carpet It’s a cheap carpet so I’ve been worried about cleaning it and it looking worse but at this point anything is better than black dots everywhere (along with yellow; red blue)

I also have one on how to remove blood stains from a mattress.
THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH!!!!
Thank you!
Can you just use the peroxide as your initial spotter?
Peroxide does not work well at all for a spotter. You really need something a little soapy and slippery to loosen the spots from the carpet fibers. I highly recommend using the DIY Spotter for the first step. I works amazingly well.
What about damaged, bleached carpet stains
It looks like the cleaning has damaged the carpet fibres and ots turned yellow.
Would this clean a mildew stain left by a “professional” carpet cleaner?😢
is it a stain, an odour, or both?
@@TheStainGuide a stain
How bout mustard???
Hi. My daughter ironed a new denim jacket on my cream rug, and now there is an orange size blue mark from the dye of jacket. Do you think this would work? @thestainguide
Use vinegar to break the suds of the dish soap
Is the salon 20 Volume stuff the same as 6% food grade hydrogen peroxide?
Yes, either can be used for carpet stain removal. Both are 6% H2O2.
@@TheStainGuide Hi I've read somewhere that it's best to use the strongest h202 as possible (30 or 50%), so I purchased my 50%. Do you think this is a good advice?
@@hunghoangtd93 50% is very strong, and I wouldn’t recommend it. 6% is strong enough to remove most stains.
@@TheStainGuidewhat about 10%? In my country it’s cheaper this way. Will the 10% do any harm to the fabric?
Amazing
Hi, Very good!! Might I please have an email contact for you? I have a carpet situation I need to share and pics to illustrate the issue. Hoping for advise!!
Didn't know you could use a pan with hot water to absorb the stain???
Matt
I have viscose carpet very hard
Got Pepto all in my vette 🤣 well I hope this works
Where do you get 6% hydrogen peroxide?
Rainbow six extraction
Got it
I’m surprised the hydrogen peroxide didn’t bleach the carpet
When ur an artist and have charcoal and hair dye and crap stuck in ur white carpet
I was checking out the below video where they were using hydrogen peroxide solution instead. Wondering what do you think about using that solution vs the one you used?
Also, if I don't have the extraction machines, is using a regular home vacuum an option?

All spots will be removed if you
Remove right away
How can i remove a rust spot on carpet ?
You missed a spot 😂
Way to tedious
Anyone use this on stains from kids modeling clay (it’s the kind that never dries out 🫠🫠🫠) my kids have gotten pea sized stains of clay of all diff colors on our crème carpet
It’s a cheap carpet so I’ve been worried about cleaning it and it looking worse but at this point anything is better than black dots everywhere (along with yellow; red blue)
Haters will say it is in reverse 🫡❤
