K2 Plus doing Filament Changes - front and back. Stay to the end to see it poop.

- I don't get tired of watching this, i hope you enjoy it too. Each time the printer finishes one color on a layer it goes through this process. We will watch the filament get pulled back and the new filament get fed in through the CFS. The extruder pushes some of the new filament through the nozzle so that your next color is ready to go. A quick pass on the purge block to make sure it is printing and then your new color is ready for use. It's my first time watching this and I enjoyed it. I hope you do too!

I really want to see the XY motors and how they’re mounted. The marketing material makes it look like they might potentially have additional bearing support on the end of the shaft, which would be amazing to see a company finally get right
Good job Kevin. Thanks for showing us a sneak peek.
My pleasure!!
I hope the slicers will be updated to include the possibility to print the filament change in the infill, so that less filament has to be ejected as waste.
bambu and orca have such a setting. It's just that a lot of people don't see her for some reason.
@@Kawasalto oh ok, I really wasn't aware of that, probably because without a multicolor printer you don't bother with it :D
yes the new creality print 5.0 already has this setting also
Only Orca one slicer for all Bambu, Qidi, K2 PLus
That would certainly be an improvement.
Another amazing video! Thank you Kevin
Thanks! Everything Bambu LIKE, no experiments, wouldn't know how to do filament changes differently with one nozzle! 👍I'm already reassured and looking forward to the 350mm print bed.
me too!
Thank you for the internal mic test - hearing the wind at the start there really speaks to the power in there!
I like seeing the DC power jack on the back of the CMS which portends the promised backwards compatibility with existing printers.
I love the CFS lid locks
really? That's good to hear.
Thanks for showing us these videos super excited for October to come i was able to get in at the 40 percent off so super excited for this awesome machine!!
This machine is begging for custom magnetic print head covers. Imagine the possibilities.
that is a really good thought! You can literally do whatever you want for your cover!
You may get some interesting people from the search engine that see "stay till the end to see it poop". 😊
true - hope they were not disappointed lol
Hi Kevin, something for creality. If you have the choice to choose infill in one color for example white for all the infill you can gain a lot of time.
Have you used the new Creality Print 5.0? Do you know if that is an option? That is a very interesting idea - I never thought of that!
That's a good idea, do you know if any other machines are like that?
When I'm playing around with creality print 5.0 I don't see that option to do. But would be something good to add for sure.
How would this gain time.
Say your printing red , then it switches to white for the infill .
Now it has to switch to the next color, say black.
If you would have just went from red to black it would have had one less filament swap hence saving time.
What I would like to see are some finished prints to see the surface quality. As of now, we've almost always seen an ongoing print, but nothing finished close up.
Looks great. I think my k1 will fit inside the k2
Really Like the digital display on the CFS. Do the Filament guides come with or were those a later modification?
Concerning outer wall printed first after color change
thst's not the direction the glass broke in last time.
I'm amazed at all the surprise that the glass breaks when it's forced past the hinge point.
People yell at Creality yet I know several automotive manufacturers that used the same (only bigger) bolts through the glass with rubber or plastic bushings.
They also broke into a billion pieces when pushed past their hinge point.
It's pretty much a clone of the bambu lab p1s/x1c only difference is build volume. It looks almost identical with a few thing moved around. Everyone is following what bambu is doing with the ams. Everyone including bambu should be following the prusa xl with the 5 print heads
Problem with the Prusa xl is the price, because you got to pay for 5 toolheads instead of one
@nonamenone4540 yep, true. If it didn't cost over 4k for the while setup I would've gotten that instead of the p1s combo
Great video. You need to keep the camera higher, so we can see the filament get removed and the new filament enters the extruder. I was trying to see where the cutter is.
the cutter is not above the extruder, it gets cut before moving to the back. When the print head moves to the left and "bangs" against the side twice - that is the cutter working. I agree with you that I wish we could see a little better inside on this video but this was as far as i could reach in and zoom - my big fat hands seems to get in the way.
@@kevin.3D nah, you just had the camera tilted down too much. Does the filament get cut between the hotend and the extruder? I don't understand why the filament doesn't get retracted before cutting, to minimise the poop.
@@3DPrinterDoctor retraction risks hot/deformed filament being pulled back into the extruder, basically undoing the purpose of the heatbreak and risking clogs and gumming up the extruder. You can still do _some_ retraction, but not nearly as much as one would hope.
It is in the realm of static g-code macros, so there have been plenty of experiments where people have both tuned both this sort of retraction distance before cutting, plus tuned the total filament volume needed to flush the rest of the path/nozzle down.
all this 3d printing stuff is just make-believe.. we just have to believe we can make things ;)
maybe our next livestream can host this topic - we can have a nice calm discussion about believing in ourselves and being makers. Zora will buy some candles - sounds very peaceful lol
Hi Kevin, nice video. Quick question? Can you show us some printings with colour change on the same layer???
Till this point I didn't see it changing colours on the same layer.
Cheers.
I'm not sure if i understand your question. Each of the color changes here are in the same layer. This model has four colors on each layer. for example, the tires at the front are black on the outside and white on the inside. This is on each layer. So one layer of this model has all four colors.
The more I see the K2 and how it works with the CFS, the less I think they are going to do anything to allow K1 series owners to use it. I just want to know if I need to replace my gantry myself or if there's an upgrade coming from them.
Yes I wanted to make that video yesterday but they just don't have any hooked up like that yet. I'm trying to get one done this week though. I also want to do it, just for fun.
@@kevin.3D a new gantry by Creality or CFS hooked up to a K1 series?
sorry, this was my reply to someone asking about multiple cfs being hooked up. I'm not sure why it jumped to your question. I have no information on K1 series printers and the major surgery they will require. I have the same questions because i have a K1 and K1C so i'm curious. But right now everyone is hyper-focused on the K2 Plus and getting it delivered as promised. Number one question on every livestream - when will it be available for the K series and Ender 3 V3? lol
@@kevin.3D Yeah, it keeps feeling like they're gonna say, "nah, nevermind." to all of us waiting on an official linear rail setup. I just want to know if it's worth even doing at this point or if I should just go ahead and do the community mod. :(
Very nice! This is looking good!
If it is spitting out enough filament to change colors then why is a purge block even needed?
something to do with nozzle pressure and building it up before resuming the print, I'm waiting for tool changers to come out too much wasted time and filament on these AMS systems. What people don't realize until after purchas is that a 5 hour single color print goes up to 20 hours for the same print in multicolor and you wast 1/2 the filament as well! Thats if the AMS works perfectly! Running an AMS quadruples your chances of having a print failure!
Not much details on the tech specs yet. Is that a ceramic heater block? Thanks. Laurie. NZ. 😊
Does it only pull back the filament or is it cut too ?
When it hits against the side of the wall it is cutting the filament, then it rolls back up, the left over amount that's in the nozzle after the cut is then purged out. It will have a clean cut after each color change over.
I jusy want the cfs
Some are purging into an object such as a spinner Vs. out the back, search purge into object
this is an option in the slicer settings
@@kevin.3D right click on the object on Bambu shows the option do not know about this slicer I would think it is or going to be
Grid infill instead of 3D Honeycomb or Gyroid?
i know, right? I always use gyroid, I love it.
Dumb question: why is there a purge block if it gets rid of so much filament during color changes? Seems like it should "poop" out just enough to clean off the nozzle, then transition on the block (or whatever purge-to object) before going back to the main model. Or go from wiping back to the main model without doing a block.
My understanding is the purpose of the block is primarily to prime the temperature and pressure of the nozzle with the new filament, not to purge, hence being a "prime tower". It is closer to the line/pattern before the start of a new print - but per color/per layer.
Thanks Kevin very interesting to watch. Does Creality have a date set yet for buying the K2, CFS, or K2 combo off the shelf yet? Looking forward to our Creality agent 3DMax here in NZ having these for purchase. Laurie. NZ. 😊
Think they said in last livestream like mid October for the K2 etc. Didn't say if that was for the CFS units also
NZ can buy from the official Creality store in Australia. So you can get in on the last round of discounts July 1st at 20% off. After we ship the pre-orders they will go on sale, yes October-ish.
@@cliffgardner5717 in one Live Stream they said August for the sale start of the CFS. But don't know if this is still correct.
@mahe7619 maybe they will go on up for sale then. But be a pre-order thing and ship mid to end Oct... As Kevin wrote in a comment below mine, he says after pre-orders ship they will go on sale. But unsure if that's meaning CFS units or the K2 plus itself.

Kevin, can you inquire as to whether the CFS has the capacity to automatically select a new spool of the same color, if the previous spool runs out? Thanks! (I will be reposting the answer to the MACRO Discord, to help spread the information.)
Yes I already know the answer to that question is a yes. The CFS knows what colors are in there so if you keep four white rolls of filament and a huge print, it can run through all four rolls for you.
Awesome. Are they hardened nozzles?
It's like the unicorn nozzle in the K1C. But a little longer and different. Has a hardened stell inner liner head, titanium section inside the heat block with copper outter layer to help with heating up quicker.
perfect answer - thank you!
@@cliffgardner5717 So it should be good with CF filaments i would think. :)
@philbalcar yeah, I don't see it being an issue to run CF filaments. The 350⁰ degree nozzle/120⁰ degree bed and heated chamber kind of all point to it being built for nylon/CF and those other pain in the ass filaments... lol.
Its work with k1 max
why are you printing without the front cover of the hotend and extruder
So we can see inside workings better. Also it's a magnetic cover so easy to remove and put back on.
good answer. Yeah the cover hides stuff and looks nice but there is no fan or anything so why not show as much as possible.
@@kevin.3DI also remember that in the videos there was a cap with additional ventilation holes, are there any problems with the hotend heatsink?
no more paper spools? same issues as cms?
paper spools are no problem

Will work on a k1c?
the plan is to make it work for the K1 series, yes. Eventually.
@@kevin.3D excellent news!!
@@lucasfernandez3653don't expect that to come until start of 2025. The K2 plus/CFS will come out October and will be the main focus for a while, pushing sales of them to make $ on the new new product. Then either right before the holidays or 1st thing starting new year the CFS upgrade for K1-series lineup will come out. It's going need alot of R&D and changes to make work with K1-series lineup. Needs new backpanel and poop chute nozzle wiper, also will need new nozzle/extruder printhead design so can cut the filament etc... I also don't see the K1-series CFS upgrade costing any less than $500 for full kit, CFS alone will be around $275-300 each to match others pricing.
It's an exact copy of bamboo)) Just modified in some places
Viel Material Verschwendung
So wasteful
i agree - i want four rolls of filament loaded at the same time for myself but not interested in multi-color printing lol
lets watch the filament change.......zooms into hot end and shows nothing of how the filament changes. Well, that was pointless
Would you want a Fing video of the spools just rolling....can clearly see the color change.. don't be a clown..
