I'm always on board when Martyn suggests the KonaEV.

If she enjoys driving a Leaf, just get her a new one. The latest ones have double the range of the earliest models.

Fully agree. A Leaf Plus is plenty of daily driving miles.

My wife sold her 2001 Subaru Forester and wanted a similar sized basic EV. After renting for 3 days each a Nissan Leaf, Chevy Bolt and a Tesla Y she liked the Leaf. It’s a 2022 SV plus. We live in the Pacnw and it’s our town car. We like the surround camera, solid metal roof and framed doors. For road trips we have a Subaru Outback that gets 4-500 mile range and over 8” ground clearance.

@Curtis & Curtis' wife MX-30 short inventory available at the moment but you can get them anywhere from 12k-16k with credit on very low mileage units for the fully loaded ones. It's what I did for my wife who had the same desires and already has a long range option in the household.

The place where Dom found the Ariya is at Huntley Ford. They have LOADS of great used EVs on their lot! If you're shopping for used EV that is definitely the place to go! As an Ariya owner, I highly both recommend & don't recommend it. It's a great driving vehicle but there are some misses that are all very fixable if Nissan cares enough to push out the updates.

If Curtis’s wife can live with a 60 miles range Leaf, she might enjoy a used Mini Cooper S E and they aren’t expensive used.
BTW I also didn’t like the Model Y when I had a 24 hour test drive - it made me feel ill.
I loved the Ariya and its front wheel drive or AWD in the higher spec versions. I was going to replace my Mini Cooper with a Fisker Ocean as I loved that after 2 test drives and thank goodness I procrastinated on that one! I ended up with the new 2024 Mini Countryman S E Sport Level 3 - its brilliant and so much fun to drive

Hyundai and Kia are rolling the $7500 into lease incentives that range from $7500-$14k.
That way lease companies/dealerships can’t pocket it on unsuspecting customers

I would still say, under 60k miles for a luxury car like an Audi would be much better than an XC40. I’ve driven an XC40 for a few weeks and it sucked without the ADAS enabled on my rental. I know it can be added later but I’d much rather have the options on an eTron. Or just stick with the Arya next year.

EVs are advancing quickly, I think this is the time to lease, not buy.

You don't even look at Nissan Leaf?! She already has a leaf that she likes, a new new Leaf minus $7,500 rebate or a used leaf would be the first obvious choice.
It's okay to not like Tesla, no apology necessary

I love driving my Leafs. Have a 2016 SL on permanent loan to my 86-year-old MIL and I have a 2023 LEAF SV + with 60 kWh battery I drive in Central Valley of CA. LEAFS are just really nice cars to drive. I preferred my 2023 SV better than entry Ariya. Especially the 360 camera that works forward as well as reverse. They are not “sexy” although the SV+ do 0-60 in about 5.5 sec. They are old hatchback design and ChadMeO but just around town and don’t need large cargo they are GREAT cars for 1-2 people. A used 2022 or 2023 low milage LEAF SV Plus would be a good choice for his wife. Ariya ok but not great car. Used RWD ID.4 is a thought. My wife drives a 2022 ID.4 RWD and loves it. We rent Tesla Model Y in Kauai 12 weeks a year. Good cargo but really not a particularly comfortable car to drive or ride in and it takes me running screen in passenger seat for my wife to want to drive it!

That Nissan Ariya wouldn't qualify for the used EV tax credit because it's a 2023 Model Year (MY). It has to be a MY that is 2 years or older from the current calendar year (2024) so only 2022 and older until Jan 1, 2025.

The Leaf is a great driver! My wife has one, it steers really well and has a tight turning radius, visability is great too. It out accelerates most similar gas cars by a lot.
My Model 3 is better in literally every other way but driving ease (once you press three or four buttons to start) goes to the Leaf.
